What you like more steamgifts or steamtraders?

tf2outpost, steamgifts and steamtrades currently are both a mess in terms of design.

The problem isn't the design, are the scrubs thinking everything you offer is a lowball.

What's more funny is that they threaten to report you for what they think is 'lowballing'.

Something zelg wrote in his reply was posted in the past by OP, in another thread, something that OP doesn't like.

It's not the first time i see this happening and i think in one of the threads the support said this was enough to get the offenser suspended for harassing another user. I could be wrong though.

Last time OP made a thread, there were people harassing him with posts structured just like the one zel posted. Bad things happened to those people.

Both sites serves very different purposes. I like SG for the community and the opportunity at winning something. I also like ST for trading (pretty much the only trading site out there with a decent design)

They're basically the same network, but different sites. It's like asking, what do you like more, food or drinks?
But I'll say SG because of it amazing community and forum.

More than that, they share a lot of code and a database. Heck, we could even continue this conversation on Steamtrades if we'd like.

SG, the community and the forum and, sometimes, enter giveaway(I have 300 points for a couple weeks)
ST, most of my library came out from trades

I like then both in different ways, I cannot say I like more x than y.

Are we talking about Steamtrades? If so ... Steamgifts. But can they simple be compared?

It's like asking whether you prefer Steam or GoG. They don't do the same thing, really. Or am I totally wrong?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, Steam and GoG can be compared - both sell games, one has DRM and lots of new AAA games, other have no DRM and nearly-none new AAA games :)

SG and ST can't be really compared - one is place where gentle(wo)men can find other gentle(wo)men for repetitive passionate meetings, while other is bar for quick mostly one-time toilet humps :)
Different needs, different philosophy.

I've never liked Steamtrades. Trading games in general is all about everyone for themselves and pushing others down in order to elevate oneself.

Steamgifts is a nice community where people are less focused on personal gain.

Same here. You also have to search through thousands of posts to find what you want to have. Go to tf2outpost, search, find, trade.

I can only fully agree, most people on any trading site, are only seeking personal gain and lowballing while trying to get more out of the trade themselves and the best trader I've ever found was on steamgifts and not on steamtrades (Mew2 you're da kiiing)

SG, I'm not a trader as such having yet to trade any game of mine for anything. Probably won't in the future, either.

I do have a profile and rep on ST which just about exclusively comes from buying leftover bundle keys from people in the Group Buys steam group. Their rule is no profit and at those kind of prices there's very little risk. Haven't used it very often recently either as I'm buying mosting of the bundles anyway.

Risk aside, I'm not really up for searching through the threads on Steamtrades, negotiating, sending friend requests/and or trade offers and waiting around for it all to get done. I want my stuff right away. I did recently trade TF2 keys for Don't Starve on TF2outpost using a dispenser service. That was quick and efficient and I kind of liked it. Can see myself maybe using something like that again but probably not too often as overall I'm not too keen on trading. I'm happy to buy from stores/bundle sites for the most part.

steamtrades is much better, in steamgifts you can enter all you want, but you ll never win anything. Only the forum here and the puzzles are sometimes worth it.

"in steamgifts you can enter all you want, but you ll never win anything"

That's not true at all... o_O Your profile says different, just like mine does. You just have to take a shot and hope the RNG is in your favor.

Though I do agree that the forum and especially forum puzzles are great, I've won some really great games from forum puzzles on this site during my time spent here.

This must be the most stupid arguement Ive read in a long time ^^
Especially from someone who won 5 games.

Anyway, I prefer SG. ST is about getting the best deal, at least here you have some generosity.

I like ST better so far. Not that the two site can really be compared. They bother serve different functions. I've never had a bad trading experience on ST. Most the traders I've dealt with are fair and a few are very generous. I've been able to trade in many of my unwanted bundle games for games that have long been on my wish list. I also love the searching, waiting and negotiations. It's sort of exciting.

I'm fairly new to SG, haven't won anything yet. Did a few giveaways, which I liked doing. I am just starting to explore the community. If anything I can see the community winning me over.

I hate how people are hating on ST for the simple reason that it's a trading site. Oh noes, people use it to make profit!? The greedy bastards! People spend hours trading and expect to profit? That's just horrible. Selling games at a higher price than the price they paid but a lot lower than the current retail price, clearly the buyer is losing out here.

Seriously, wake up people. Trading isn't as evil as it may seem, sure there are people taking advantage of Humble Bundles and the sort to make a quick buck, but without these kinds of traders, I wouldn't be able to buy Humble Bundles at all. I rely on trading to get my games. With the lack of PayPal and any sort of Debit or Credit card, I really have no way of buying games online.

I actually started trading about a year ago with a couple of bundle games I had left over from a friend's gift. Through trading I've been able to get 95% of the games in my Steam account. By using my wits, good manners, and admittedly, a lot of time. I've managed to create a sustainable method of getting games for myself. I haven't spent a cent on games for the past year.

There are those who aren't able to buy games and thus beg. And then there are those like me, who aren't able to buy games and thus trade. Clearly one is better than the other. So please, stop this anti-trading nonsense. Sure, SG is a nice way of getting free games, but some of us don't like leaving things to pure luck.

I like SteamGifts, it works really well. The only thing I would like to see is a way to add games to your "owned" list. The account sync doesn't pick up a lot of games I have because I've bought a bundle, others its DLC it doesn't register. If there was a way to manually add items to your account so they don't appear, it would really help... Ive accidentally bid (and lost) on copies of Dead Island GOTY thinking I didn't own it... when it turns out, I do.

SteamTrades on the other hand, seems like it was thrown together too quickly.

If I may offer a suggestion to improve... leave the subject for something like "Musha's Stuff, updated 20.02.2014", then have two bodies. One for "want", one for "have". Breaks up and simplifies exactly what it is that you have and what you want rather than rely on the formatting by the trader.

In addition to this, it would make it a lot easier to have an "advanced" search, where you can search specifically for people that "have" Black Ops 2 and "want" TF2 keys, or just leave it as simple as looking for anyone that has Black Ops 2 for trade.

Searching by the subject line alone really limits the search ability, for instance I'm looking for a copy of Kane & Lynch 2, no-one would dare admit to owning that game in their subject line >.>
