Mario party 8 sticks more to its roots, I enjoyed it a lot more:) MP 9 tries out new stuff like everyone sitting in one car and they all move together, but only the active player is affected by things... If you have the chance, try it out at a friends first:)

all the usual nintendo games: Mario karts, Galaxys, smash bros etc..
This one is on of my favorites: Fragile Dreams: Farewell ruins of the moon
Comment has been collapsed.
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Punch-Out
Xenoblade Chronicles
Pandora's Tower
Madworld
The Last Story
Dead Space: Extraction (very underrated)
Resident evil 4 Wii Edition (improved controls compared to all other versions)
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Muramasa
No More Heroes 1+2
GoldenEye 007
but yeah, you have to play Mario Galaxy 1+2 and Zelda: Skyward Sword, of course. They're some of the best games ever made.

Since you probably don't want games that are on every list I'll name some more obscure ones (well mixed with some games that didn't sell well).
Little King's Story
Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (it's pretty good from a story telling perspective)
Metroid Prime Trilogy (sorry couldn't help myself)
Resident Evil 4 (seriously though the motion controls pretty much make the game better same as Metroid Prime Trilogy)
Red Steel 2 (uh I'd avoid the first one though)
Excitebots: Trick Racing
MadWorld (if you like Platinum Games stuff)
No More Heroes (both, they each have their own pros and cons)
de Blob
Dokapon Kingdom (better if you have people to mess with, think of it as a cross between a traditional JRPG and monopoly)
There are also a number of pretty good Wii Shop Channel games if you're willing to investigate reviews. You can get a bunch of freebies now if you can find Club Nintendo coins to redeem, as Club Nintendo has expanded their rewards to go with the closing of the program (just make sure you check the website as there's a deadline to get your coins and another deadline for redeeming them for rewards).
In addition, there's a pretty big library of Gamecube games you could go back to as well (as long as you got a Wii with backwards compatibility)

Yeah that version doesn't have backwards compatibility. Well you would probably have been worse off if you picked up the Wii Mini as that one is lacking even more features (though is cheaper if I remember right).

I don't know many Wii games, but I'd go for Castlevania: ReBirth and La-Mulana (Both are extremely challenging, and the latter is almost impossible to beat without a walkthrough.). Heard No More Heroes is good. I'm sure Wario Ware: Smooth Moves must be pretty good.

I read the title, but it's uncommon for people to be buying a Wii now, and a lot of people colloquially refer to the Wii U as just "Wii." Just making sure.
If it's a Wii you've got...well, they've already been mentioned, but my recommendations would be Okami and Xenoblade Chronicles. I would recommend Monster Hunter Tri as well, but it's not nearly as much fun without the online.

Obviously, yes, both Super Mario Galaxy games and both Zelda games are stunningly good. Aside from those (in no particular order):
And, pay attention, this one is ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, the most important one: Xenoblade Chronicles.

You can get a new Wii for about $100 less than a Wii U, that's still a lot of money. And you can get a lot of Wii titles from bargain bins. If OP can't afford the Wii U, chances are he's not going to buy the newest overpriced games either.

If you don't have access to a PS3, I'd say Okami is absolutely a must-play. The pointer controls are fantastic.
Also, No More Heroes was a weird but great game.
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure is a great little puzzle game that no one played.
And although it was on other platforms, and the graphics are pretty bad, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition had more content that the other versions and had some of the best controls I've ever used.

Hello guys
Just got myself a Wii console for my birthday, now I'm searching for games to play.
What are, in your opinions, the games that I definitely should play? Every top list in the internets have the same items, like Mario and Zelda, so I just wanted to know from you what was your favourite Wii game! :D
