So, 5 minutes ago a guy added me and asked me if I want to buy some games from him.

TAKE A LOOK

After this talk he deleted me.

I think he's a scammer, be careful if you meet him:)

Careful, he changes names and avatars...son of a *****!

Nice calling out thread. How is it people can't fucking learn to keep other people's information out of their mouths on the forum in relation to some kind of wrongdoing? I don't give a fuck what they did, handle it privately with support if need be. Stop trying to stir up the torches and pitchforks crowd, because there's no taking it back when these things go wrong and someone suffers the consequences for a misunderstanding. I'm leaving this open for a few minutes after your suspension as a warning.

I understand not wanting people calling others out for offences against Sgifts policies / rules, to avoid shitstorms, but I fail to see the issue with a thread warning others away from confirmed scammers with steamrep reports on them, and I fail to see how such scammers deserve any kind of privacy about their wrong doing. You know, people who actually steal things of value from people (games and money). Isn't that a serious enough issue that some public awareness on the forum is a good thing?

Don't get me wrong - just curious as to the "why" behind your post and suspension of OP.

Good questions and valid concerns. The thing is, anyone with any sense can check their SR profile if they so choose. The additional threshold of awareness a thread posted here that will stay near the top for no more than a few days offers is minimal at best, and people shouldn't need it anyway.

And frankly, people aren't all that bright generally. It wouldn't be too hard for someone to get confused and post someone's legit profile when they got scammed by an impersonator and suddenly someone has dozens of harassing comments on their profile, negative reps on ST, and so on for doing nothing except being impersonated, just as a very simple example off the top of my head.

In short, what very little benefit there is to possibly be gained is far outweighed by the potential for very real harm to people who don't deserve it.

Thanks for the reply, cool of you. Very good points, true dat. And definitely, people seem to never really learn their lesson concerning scammmers and having to check people out before you trade with them. Often it's also a case of an offer being too good to pass up, making people try to trade anyway rather than "just say no" when not sure of stuff. It just pisses me off, that scammers get away with it so consistently that it seems to have become a legit source of income for a lot of them, screwing people over :/. There's even been ties found to wonderful groups like the Russian mob, and huge, organised rings of scammers using Steam to launder cash (credit card fraud / refunding games that were traded off, get fresh, "clean" value from others) or generate some base capital for further illegal activity such as (for example) purchases of drugs.

But as you say, yeah, a thread or two will probably not put a huge dent in the ignorance among Steam users that scammers rely on, while there's always a risk of people fucking up in their accusations of others. I get you. On that note, impersonators really are the lowest form of pond scum among scammers, as they're not only screwing over their victim, but turning an otherwise unknowing person in to their pawn, thus also victimising them.

My anger at these miscreants will never get any less - goddamn parasites. Thanks for the reply once again. And hope your weathers' also looking good :)

Things are actually looking quite nice for me lately, thanks for asking. I'll be closing this now. I'd have already done so, but I wanted to address your questions first. Toodles!

Basically there's no going back once you call someone out. Mistakes can't afford to be made and someone who has been scammed is more likely to make a mistake out of rage or frustration.
