General PSA RE: Dead Island's "sale" price

I know it's time to get hyped for Summer Sales, but thought I'd point out that this deal in particular is not very good. The game's base price is only 15 dollars at most retailers (Amazon, Gamefly, Gamersgate), while Steam still has it at 30 dollars. They also have a GOTY for 20 bucks, which Steam hasn't switched to yet. The game activates on Steam from anywhere, so basically if you buy this today, you're only really saving 25 percent, which is not really something to get excited about in the middle of a summer sale. Be patient and keep an eye on the other stores, since it's Steamworks.

I know. My point is, Steam is kind of ripping you off by advertising it as 66 percent off, when it's closer to 25 percent. A 25 percent off discount is nothing to get excited about, and when those other sites put on a sale, it's going to be 3.74-5 bucks.

Steam can't just change the price of the game, if the publishers don't want it. If the publisher says that Dead Islands price is 30$, Steam can't change it. The publishers are making the price, not Steam...

Either way, it's still a bad price. If Bethesda told Steam to mark Skyrim up to 100 bucks, so that they could have a 50 percent off sale at 50 bucks, it's a bad deal either way, no matter who's at fault. And since the game is Steamworks, there's no reason really to really buy it direct from Steam.

And I really doubt Valve had no say in this given all the retailers lowered the price in the last two weeks. The Amazon guy over at CAG, when informed of the base price change, talked to the publisher and got it changed that very same day. It's a ploy to get extra sales right before they release the GOTY, which I will wager a 10 dollar private giveaway will happen within 2 weeks of the end of the summer sale.

Speaking of Dead Island, are there any Germans who've tried activating a copy from an unrestricted region? I know it works with most censored games, but as Dead Island is actually banned unlike most of those I wonder if it works differently.

I might have to look into getting it then, ideally on a steeper sale. Thanks, I just wasn't willing to lay down some money and have it not work because Steam wants to avoid liability.

You can also search for Dead Island in the German Steam Store and buy the Collection.
I did it and it works. But you can just buy the game with all the DLC, not without it. I don't know why they have the collection listed in the store...may be an error.
EDIT: NOW it doesn't work anymore. They fixed it. 10 minutes before it still worked...
