What is DayZ?

Either I've been living under a rock or I'm just stupid.

Probably both.

I've only just started hearing about this mod, which I have some questions about.

  1. The hell. It looks goddamn amazing. (Not a question, but...)
  2. Can you use Arma 2: Free to play DayZ, or do you need Combined Ops?
  3. Can a person who has rarely ever played Arma start off playing DayZ, or will they have to play normally to get the hang of the base game first?
  4. When did DayZ come out?

You need Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead, that's all I know.

I don't see a release date for DayZ on Google, and it only tells me you need Arma 2 when I type in "do you need arma 2: co for dayz"

Also, one of the questions is a skill-based question. Does DayZ have a sharp learning curve that requires players to have some base knowledge of the game beforehand?

  1. Looks good, but it's still alpha, so zombies with glitches and ping issues
  2. Arma 2 + Operation Arrowhead
  3. UI a little unfriendly, so use some manual for basics
  4. It didn't, as it's still in alpha :)
