So with talk about Game of the Year, there's basically 3 contenders- Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, and Grand Theft Auto V. BUt what do you think is the Indie Game of the Year? The Indie Game released this year that shines above all else? List what you think the top 3 contenders are (Even if none of those three would be your choice for GOTY, because that's usually the case with GOTY games) and then list what you think would win out of those three, and then your choice of what wins

Top 3 Contenders-

  • Rogue Legacy
  • Don't Starve
  • Gunpoint

Winner: Don't Starve

My Winner: Papers, Please

Edited my Top 3. I forgot about Dust when making the list, but now that I'm reminded, I remembered how hyped it was and how well of reviews it got.

Edit 2: Apparently Dust is 2012

Can't decide between Gunpoint and Rogue Legacy both are really great games for me and I enjoyed them quite much. If I would have to take a decision now I would probably choose Rogue Legacy though, but only because there is still no Steam-Workshop support for Gunpoint which leaves me with a game that I completed 100% in under 6 hours (and I'm sure you can go even faster).

Even though it's been out for a while on Xbox live, Spelunky got it's PC release this year.
It's my PC game of year, no doubt about it.

Just bought Gunpoint and it's really good. Unlike most other indie games that I recently played, it has great atmosphere. Still have to play Rogue Legacy and Papers, please though. And yeah, Don't Starve is overrated, I got bored after several hours.

well if borderlands 2 can now release the GOTY edition then I say my indie GOTY is Natural Selection 2. one of the most underrated games I met with, its just amazing what they could achieve, lot of AAA fps games have a lot to learn from this game. buy it or at least wait for freeweekend, its worth a shot

My choice is that there's nothing good enough / there's too much to put one over others as a GOTY.

There's nothing that is STAND OUT obviously amazingly awesome that it's no question. Yet at the same time, there's plenty of great indie games.

Personally if Don't Starve, Gunpoint, and Rogue Legacy, are the top 3 contenders, then yes, I have to say "there's nothing good enough to call any game GOTY" because those 3 are simply not good enough.

There's too much variety in Indie to really put a solid GOTY opinion out unless you're either A. Seriously a fan of that game. or B. Looking at it based upon pure sales figures. Neither of which should be the factor for saying a game is GOTY imo.

Rogue Legacy was just so ecstatically fun, and continues to be. I can see myself coming back to this game for years, so it's definitely goty material for me.

I really enjoyed Don't Starve so I will go with that. Rogue Legacy was kind of a grindy game for me and Gunpoint felt super short. I do like how Incognita is looking so far, but I don't think that it will release this year.

It's only grindy if you're bad at it.

Not trying to be insulting or anything, I died a lot too. But the game doesn't force you to grind. You can beat the whole game in under 3 deaths, and I'm told people have gone even lower.

We have good indie collections so far, i have bunch in my GOg accounts since most of indie are just Single player, there's no point to pick DRM version to me. but i like to pick Rogue legacy

it's metroidvania style with random generated level (sometimes it looks the same level). but my biggest problem with the game is just no variation of combat and enemy can shoot projectile and stuffs from back of the wall

All of the enemies have to be approached differently, I don't see how that adds up to no variation.

Mine is SpyParty, but it is still in open beta, so sadly it couldn't be a valid contender here.
