If you win a fake giveaway, I think i might have as the person is new and but has put up 100 dollars worth of games and just says i love this game, no proof of having the game. I hate to sound greedy, but the sadness of winning a giveaway and finding out that it is fake is overwhelming. You get so excited and hyped up that you won and then you find its fake. If this happens, heres the part that makes me sound like a douche, I think if you win a giveaway, say for the ship, and it is fake, you should automatically win another giveaway for the ship, and remove all other entries for that giveaway. That way you still get your prize and others dont get the false feeling of having a chance because they are removed. Discuss, ask questions and improve on my idea.

EDIT(better idea): Or, if someone puts up a giveaway they should have the option of making it, for people who didn't get that game, and they should have. They could make some anti-abusing system

I know it might not be the greatest idea, but after entering 700+ giveaways winning is exciting and if you dont get your prize it sucks

You entered 461 giveaways and won once.

Why is it almost every user who complains is someone who has never contributed?

Why not just perma ban the person who made a fake giveaway?

Perma banning always works. Plus people would abuse this.

so, if you win a giveaway thats fake, you should get another one from someone else or from another giveaway?

  1. It can be easily abused
  2. It isnt fair if you win a fake giveaway and then auto win a different one

...Well, what happens to the people who entered that other giveaway that you'd just auto-won? They don't falsely feel they had a chance -before- they were stripped from the giveaway without notice or permission?
Also, exploit: Make your own private, fake giveaway. Win it. Auto-win a different, real giveaway. Problem?

Make it so the giveaway has to have multiply entries?

And? You can still easily abuse the system for high profile games like Skyrim or MW3.

I agree with Johannason. It'd be easily exploitable, and even when it sucks winning and not getting your prize, it'd suck more being on a giveaway and then seeing how everybody got removed of it. Also, the one who made the real giveaway might not feel that good with their giveaway being turned into a 'consolation' prize, in the lack of a better word.

Still, do you know how much hassle to support that would be? It's a mess enough already with the bundle key submitters.

The Ship is virtually a free game to giveaway, doubt they are fake.

Basically if anyone has over 100 games, it is an auto believe.
500+ games it is real regardless what anyone says. (probably)

Under 20 games basically ignore it.

so you're saying that giveaways from people that have less then 100 games are usually fake?o.o
I did a giveaway when I had like 15 games...

I don't think that idea's a good idea. Couldn't one person just abuse it by making a ton of fake giveaways?

They would be banned, and multipul people must enter for it to count as fake

Another idea from the group of total BS ones.

No refunding will ever gonna happen. Deal with it. Forcing the legit giveaway creator to give his game to the winner of a fake giveaway is like ordering him to pay money for the lier. You might not mind, most of the people would mind big time.

There are obvious fake giveaways - if you enter those, win it and at the end get nothing, it's your fault. Nobody's paying for that.
Some giveaways are fake but you can't tell for sure (I happen to win one of them recently). All you can do is report the faker and move on with your life.

hey, so if I understand it right - you get free points and free chance to get some games from others for free and you complain if the bad luck might get you once and you win a fake giveaway even though you never contributed anything to the community?
hmmm, interesting...

I might just be a cheapass, but I only enter giveaways from people who seem legit or have previous, positive feedback. Sometimes it's quite obvious and easy to spot the fake ones.

In most cases if you enter a fake giveaway, that's your own fault. I know there are some exceptions, but the majority of these fake giveaways are so obvious, still a lot of people enter them.

I think Steam inventory/ CD key check is great.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But you can keep your Steam inventory private, right? If so, it doesn't mean they don't have the game being offered. And not everything you may have to offer will be in you your Steam inventory anyway (e.g., indie bundles). So while this kind of check can help, it's not a guarantee. So how do you figure out which giveaways are probably fake? I've only been here about two weeks, and always assumed fakes were rare. Are they more common than I thought?

you are whining, there will always be fakers
but first you need to sort them out
that takes time so 2 bad if you won a fake giveaway
and still you manage to have more games than me and I have done giveaways and you didn't
it's just karma , "give and you will receive"
and all that I have given was from my saving funds

Woah there PJ just chillout, the idea is horrible but he isnt begging or anything. This isnt steamcontributergiveaways.com and people who havent donated still have the right to be bummed out when they "win" a fake giveaway.
