What is the best space 4X game you guys can recommend me?

freelancer. but its kinda dated, lol

also anno series are decent but arent much into space stuff though, so idk really. ur best bet would probably be X3 terran. freespace 2 is amazing too but that one is ancient just like freelancer. the thing is most newish games are way behind both freelancer and freespace. as this (sub?)genre evolved, graphics wise, other stuff has gotten much worse, sort of like mmos i suppose? :) M
