Spits out too many false positives and has actually caused programs I have to not work because of it. And then when I contacted support about it they claimed it had already updated to not detect said false positive and that was false. Also when I created exceptions they would just stop working.
Honestly, wouldn't recommend it. Go for Avast or MSE if you want a good free AV program.

I love Avira! I have Avira 2012 Premium and i love it! Ok there are a lot of false positives ,but hey: Doesn't make this Avira safer?
I personally like Avira and the Safety of Avira! Weekly/Daily Updates and a very good Trojan/Virus Index! If you click the Name of the Virus ,it tells you how dangerous it is or how it behaves etc.
I personally recommend Avira 2012 Premium to everyone!

False positives doesn't make it safer because those same false positives make it harder to do things. Those same false positives can actually make stuff you have stop working. It acts more along the lines of burning a house down because it might have seen a mouse inside. Avira just goes overboard and its users suffer for it.

I remembered back in the day I got a virus while using Avira Free Edition.....

COMODO FIREWALL (FREE) + AVAST AV (FREE) = BEST FREE PROTECTION COMBO

Comodo is such a pain... I had it for some time and I was having headache all the time because of it. It kept blocking programs like MS Word that I actually need for school. Don't know why since I installed them from original CD I bought in a store. But if it works for you - that's good.

Probably the best free anti virus ever. Do not remember the last time I had a false positive.
Pair it up with a firewall + Spybot Search and Destroy+ Malware Bytes and you have the perfect setup.
edit: That, and NoScript for your prefered bbrowser.

Dude it's not good to use so many programs for this shit. You just back up your system with so much programs. Better use Windows built in firewall + Avast Free!/Avira + Dr.Web CureIT (to scan it once a month) and it will be much better and healthier. Haven't had any viruses with this setup and my system is as fast as it was the first day I installed it (about 7 months ago).
Personally, I would suggest Avast Free! if you want to go for free AV because Avira has lots of false possitives while Avast has shown me maybe 3 this whole time. Yeah, it scans suspicious programs when they are ran but if it founds that the program comes from unsafe location but not virus it allows you to choose - Continue Execution or Terminate program.

Believe me, its good to use this many programs. They cover up everything you need to(and the setup you said really doesnt)
Also, I said 4 programs. You said 3. Is that such a huge difference? lol. My system is also as fast as the first day I installed it 1 year ago.

It's a huge difference because you don't need to have Dr. Web CureIT installed 24/7. For example, I have portable version on safe SB flash drive and I use it only when I scan my PC. Avast doesn't eat almost any resources and Windows firewall is built in by default and doesn't eat much resources too. Plus Dr. Web CureIT scans for malware, viruses, trojans and any other unsafe stuff. While you have to use multiple programs to scan for all this stuff. I would use only Dr. Web CureIT if I wouldn't need web shield that is provided to me by Avast.

You also are recommending Spybot Search and Destroy which was good back in maybe 2005? It sure isn't now. Though I'll agree with Malwarebytes and Avast, those are solid programs.

I had Avira for several years. I think I got a single trully False Positive in my whole life (and it happened a few weeks ago when i got "No Time to Explain" on Steam).
It is light, but the "Configurations" Interface is quite heavy and buggy, dunno why.
Never had big problens or viruses, so I see no problem on using it. On the other hand I always have been careful myself, so it hadn't much to do.If you are going to do a lot of dirty things (i guess you understood), you should consider getting a paid Anti-virus.

I was using Avira for years but i it annoyed me more and more. It would extremely slow down everything after the startup for updating and showing me these stupid adds. I'm now using Avast.

I want opinions and maybe sources on how good or bad it is? and maybe some details like the detection rate and how it compares to other anti viruses
