Turns out I cannot link my Steam account because I already did that for a previous Bandai Namco account I lost access to (and I suspect it was linked to an email address I can no longer retrieve). Any way to unlink that from the Steam settings?

That's very strange, considering previous giveaways did NOT require this.

Anyway, I just linked it, let's see what happens (the giveaway is still happening).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I would assume they found out there were way too many bots/alts/whatever in previous giveaways, so now they added this.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Fair, but if you see an account that has activity and was created years before, then it's probably not a bot.
Not to mention a 100 thousand codes are a lot, enough to cover half the world's gaming community... including bots.

I absolutely agree with the first part, which is why I find it unfair when other websites exclude limited Steam accounts (Fanatical giveaways, for example).
About the key count, 100K is actually a third of last giveaway (and I'm pretty sure there are more people interested in The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan than in 11-11 Memories Retold)...

and how are they supposed to see if account has activity and created years ago?

In general, bots tend to log in at the time of giveaways ONLY.

That kind of activity.

Well, I got this (the reply doesn't really provide answers to my questions though):

"Thank you for reaching out to us. I am contacting you regarding your question on the Man of Medan giveaway.

We thank you for your interest in our games! I will happily assist you further.

  1. Sadly, the giveaway is already over.

  2. It is important to know that not all participants were going to win a code, as the winners were randomly chosen.

  3. It was in fact needed to link your Bandai Namco account with your Steam account, in order to be able to take part properly.

  4. The giveaway did not include all countries possible. In the link below you can find the list of the countries.

Here you can find all the rules in regards of the giveaway:
https://media-center.bandainamcoent.eu/games/man-of-medan/TDP-MOM-GIVEAWAY-RULES-EN.pdf

I hope this information has helped.

If you have any further questions or need anything else, do not hesitate to contact us at any time and a member of our team will happily assist you."

its just really weird of them because

  1. Im in Malaysia and shouldn't have been able to participate but i could.
  2. I never linked my Steam account
  3. i got a key

Comment has been collapsed.

That's strange indeed, I got Little Nightmares before WITHOUT linking my steam account as well.

I don't care what anyone says, but I don't believe that throughout the 4 days through the giveaway lasted, there were more than 100 000 e-mails... it's to the "It is important to know that not all participants were going to win a code, as the winners were randomly chosen" part.

At least you got one, so that's great! :)

I did linked steam (tho it was yesterday when I read it here that it was required) yet didn't get a key.
Yet you see a few of those free keys on main SG.
think I only wanted it cause it was "free" ('cept your data!), it wasn't AlienwareArena and it was from BandaiNamco, not sure when I would had played it but still, gifted horse mouth and all that :P
Oh well..

yeah their site is awful for that, you can't even use an automatic "i forgot my password" wi_thout actually contacting their support.. and they will bother you asking for your informations (wich i generally put randomly on anything that ain't sérious stuff)

Couldn't log with my mail, tried to log with their gmail auologin, says it couldn't work because the mail is already exist (wich is logical because i am trying to connect to my already existing account)

Then i could login with twitter, wich also use the same mail, but for some whatever reason it worked..

How do I redeem the key? I got the email, it says "Redeem your key", but when I click on it, it sends me to the Steam site where I have to put in a product code. What product code? I didn't get any?

EDIT: Oh, turned out somehow some of the text was invisible, it didn't display it correctly. Had to change to "view on the web" to see the key :)

There should be a key (as text) right above the "Redeem your key" button.
Atleast there it was on the screenshot I have seen. Maybe you have to enable the full view of the email or something.
Or you just got a little too excited and read over it ;)

If you are forcing dark mode on gmail with Opera GX, there's white text on the mail. Took me a while until i noticed

Dark mode has nothing to do with my case, the picture is still white, just the text is gone. But I figured out how to see it.

While this time I didn't run into that bug, the preview time Bandai Namco did one of these giveaways I had that issue, the email showed the key as white text over off-white text that was barely visible. Something about how they format their emails can screw them up when it comes to rendering them.

When creating the account with email it did not mention linking the Steam account, it directly forwarded to the participate button and they gave the thank you message, etc., or maybe they did mention it but I don't remember.
I really wanted the game...

Same as you, but I linked it before the giveaway ended (on a separate day) and didn't receive anything.

as I see many people did not get it. I see MOM giveaways around, roughly community get like 200 copies. This is incomplete giveaway, their site states until all keys given. So we should think like 100K users find that giveaway and all linked their steam accounts.. Dreams are Paris reality is Antartica

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The giveaway ran for a few days and despite being meant for just Europe and some other places it was essentially open worldwide, so it's not that hard to believe than 100k users managed to participate and get a key, or more likely fewer users but a number of them got multiple keys. You need to remember that this wasn't just shared in this forum but all over the net.

Also, what does "Dreams are Paris reality is Antarctica" mean?

Also, what does "Dreams are Paris reality is Antarctica" mean?

The phrase "Dreams are Paris reality is Antarctica" is a metaphor for disappointment. Paris is often associated with dreams and romance, while Antarctica is a harsh and unforgiving environment. The phrase suggests that the reality of the giveaway was much harsher than the participants had hoped.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah, I deduced it had something to do with Antarctica being harsh and people idolizing Paris but since I had never heard/read it before I wasn't quite sure, there's always the chance that it meant something wildly different. Considering that not being selected as a winner when there's a pool of 100k keys sucks I can see how the parallel fits quite well.

Thanks for the explanation :)

I have some strange situation with my account. I used to log in via Gmail, now when I log in it gives an error, I want to restore - it says it’s not possible, I want to register to this email, it gives an error. What's happened? Ban for no reason? Previously played games from Capcom, the account was linked...

If your account was created through a social media account or through directly logging in with your email account then you need to log in with that same method. Maybe try logging in with Facebook, Twitter, the gmail direct login, or with login details. If all of them fail then there's something wrong with your account that needs to be fixed their side.

To all who couldn't get a key I just played through the game it takes ~4 hours and I wasn't impressed. Best character was the narrator and props to the face animations department especially lip syncing is spot on. Music, sound and voice actors are good but the story and dialogues are mediocre at best.

Just that you know you didn't miss much.

I already had a key, but got one so that my husband could play with me.
And then after activation we saw that there's a friend pass for the game as well... so we didn't even need the extra key, could just have played through that haha.
