I just got back from a 3 and 1/2 day vacation. I had a lot of fun. I went to the countryside and spent a lot of time getting eaten by mosquitos. I spent a lot of time outside hanging out with friends and talking about life, going to the beach and cooking marshmallows on a campfire. I also played a lot of Mario Kart Wii and I got 1st place on Rainbow Road for the first time with skillful driving. I personally had a lot of fun and I am very exhausted. We went to the forest and walked a lot. My legs do hurt a little but in like an okay way. I got to see a lot of my awesome friends again after a long time and it was very nice, since I moved even farther away from them now. I am very pleased with my trip.

How was your vacation? (If you've gotten the time to take one that is?)

NO! NO MORE POTATOES! AAAAAHHHHH!!! 🥔

Very cool. Sounds like a great time outside of the mosquitos.

I wouldn't call mine a vacation, but I have a wolf hybrid, and she expects an hour or two of hiking daily. Since my town is surrounded by national forests, we just pick a direction and go. Although a couple days a week, we'll go on longer (four, six, eight hour) hikes. Explore areas of the forests we haven't been to much or at all. Last week, we found an unexpected pond with tadpoles, fish, and a large quantity of blue dragonflies. That was pretty cool.

If it was fun, it was worth it, right? Even if it was exhausting and tiring, the scenery must've been totally worth it. I am extremely tired, so tired that I feel like I need to hibernate for a few weeks in my new bed, but it was so worth it. I'd love to go on a nice long hike, not sure if I would last 8 hours but I think it would be pretty nice to see some of natures' beauty. Very interesting daily semi-vacation!

I have not yet vacationed for summer. Hoping in a week or so. I anticipate more driving than I'd like, sand in awkward places, bad sleep, , but also tasty food, video games and board games with my son and dad, and as much frozen yogurt as my son can convince us to eat. It's usually nice to walk along the beach and such.

I came back from my vacation and told my brother about it and he said "If you are exhausted and tired, how was it a vacation?" and I just said "If it was fun, it was worth the hindrance.". He didn't quite get how it was a vacation but spending time with my buddies is something I'd do anything for, even if it meant taking a 4 hour long car ride to get there. How come you get to eat so much frozen yogurt, does he make it in bulk? I personally like it a lot because I also like soft ice cream. Whenever I eat any ice cream from a bowl I always mix it until it becomes smooth and soft and then I eat it. My friends call me weird for it, but I like it that way. I also ate potato chips with grilling tongs to not get the Wii remote greasy, which for them was "weird" but it worked, so what's weird about it? I love my friends, it was definitely a summer highlight, a little time away from my own turf and a nice change of pace.

I hate the driving but it's worth having a break from the routine. And it's fun looking for things in the tide pools, like a treasure hunt.

For the frozen yogurt, the shop is on the way to the beach, so every time we pass, my son asks. With the grandparents paying, I see no harm in an indulgent week. Mmm.

As for potato chips, I sometimes use a fork, to keep hands clean. You can get the chip between the tines, as long as the chip isn't very thick. Assuming we're talking crispy American style bagged chips, and not UK chips/french fries. Hrm. Now I'm hungry.

Filling in for 3 supervisors who think summer is the healthiest time to subject oneself to the elements: woot! There wasn't a free lunch, but my 1 to 3 day old leftovers are more nutritious and tasty than what the cafeteria can offer as a core of a meal at a cost effective price point on top of it all.

Here's 4 for then. Last time I saw my friends in August 18th, something around that. How I know is because we played The Angry Birds Trilogy on the Wii until 4 AM because we were just so exhausted from partying. Our dopamine levels were SO low that anything was enough. I wish we had better leftovers than cold sausages and sweet butter bread though, but at least we had some potatoes and chicken soup as well >:D

I still wish hospitals cared more about what they serve to their patients, especially the gut department. I mean, my dad was in the hospital for a month because of Crohn's disease and they kept giving him food he wasn't supposed to eat. Only sugar, more sugar, more sugar and all this other chemical stuff that would only make him more sick. My mom said she just ordered restaurant food for him every day that he was actually okay to eat. The hospital care was good though, because of the auxiliaries, he was always well treated and never left waiting, what you guys do is noble!

How do you relax then? Do you get any rest, ever? Everyone should get some time for themselves every once in a while, it's very healthy to be away from your regular environment and have a change of scenery for a few days, if not weeks. I hope you do get a "vacation" or some sort of rest that gives you some peace, just to get away from your work a little bit.

That's peculiar, and you feel fine this way? Is the free time off work sufficient enough that you don't feel like you need a vacation after years of working? I mean hell, even just a nice afternoon is good enough to get my mind off things. I still think doing something relaxing every once in a while is healthy to get some work stress off yourself.

Except it's a two-week long vacation. Except old friends are colleagues I don't work with very often. Except the vacation is actually a work trip. And my campfires are different hotels every day because of a misunderstanding, so I need to go around with my bag and backpack all day while working. Except the mosquitos... oh no, the mosquitos are here, too, grrrrrrrrrrr.
My actual vacation will be next month, and I'll (hopefully) spend it moving to my new apartment.

Nothing, just bites and that's it. I hope you do something nice for yourself during your vacation and get some well-needed rest, everyone needs it every once in a while.

Well, a while ago i read a article or was a fact video? dont remember, it says that the max amount of "enjoyment of vacations" of a person before it become tedious was 7 days, after that 7th day the person make routines and become more like you were in your house, reducing the enjoyment and start the homesickness and all the others "debuf" of being away from home.
I know those 10 days will be enough to rest and recover, but the funny thing is that you start missing those free days when you start working again xD

That is pretty interesting, I did start to get fed up a little on the 4th day but not like "I want to get OUT of here" kind of fed up but just like "I want to start going home soon".

A vacation doesn't mean you have to go somewhere, just having a good time and enjoying yourself is still a vacation and a good rest. Besides, who doesn't like reading without having to do anything else? (besides the dishes and laundry). Sometimes, home is just best, what can you do.

Seeing 12 people over the course of multiple days was a bit much for me as well. I did enjoy my time but my social battery is in debt, not sure how I'll get it back. I'm more for an ambivert though, I am sort of introverted in public spaces but quite extroverted around my folk, but I lean into both quite equally. I'm glad you still had fun, that's the entire point of a vacation :)

Vacation is different for different people, heck I even played Mario Kart Wii most of the time I was there. Isn't there a game called "Slaycation Paradise" as well? I suppose it's a staycation game slaycation vacation. What a tongue twister. If you haven't already, I'd start with a cozy game like Bugsnax. Personally it was a very fun 24 hour bug snack adventure. I hope you enjoy your backlog slaining!

You don't have such a thing as paid vacations when you are a freelancer, and I can't afford to lose money, so it's out of the question (my vacations are days when there's no work, I spend these playing games instead of translating them). And I have neither energy nor money to go anywhere.

Now I am absolutely destroyed, not an ounce of social nor moving energy left in me. I'll just be a rock for the next few days. I hope you get yourself a better vacation of your taste as time goes on, I think you deserve it!

Sounds like a lovely vacation you are planning. I can count at least 2 horror movies where people rent out a big house somewhere for a vacation and something goes horribly wrong, oh wait, there's a 3rd.

The move was very challenging and quite tiring, but it was very worth it to spend some quality time with my friends. Maybe some of them will come over soon as well, at least I live in a more economical location now where my friends actually have some business in as well.

Mario Kart Wii is something I can only get to play once a year on a 50 inch TV with 4 player split screen. So we had like 12 friends over at the party the first day and most left the first day and some left the second day and then some came back the second day as well. We had I believe exactly 5 people including me, so we weren't able to play all at once. The skill level is sort of weird. One of our friends is like a professional, knows all the shortcuts, the ultra shortcuts and all the tips and tricks while also being really skillful (basically front-runs absolutely every single race) while rarely getting blueberry pied and absolutely Mario karted out of existence. Then there is the friend whose place we were staying at who is pretty good at the game, but not as good as the first friend. He also front-runs most races but sometimes gets quite frustrated at like Rainbow Road. Then there is me, who is not that great at driving yet and suffers greatly on tracks like Wario's Mine, Rainbow Road and Moonview Highway. I need a little bit of luck to actually gain an opportunity to grasp to win first place. Then there are the 2 other guys, one of them is slightly better than the other but they need to be very lucky to win first place, they usually win the luck based tracks like Luigi Circuit and Desert Hills. I usually win most races when the second friend isn't playing and the best player is handicapped, otherwise I end up in 2nd or 3rd place.

I'm very happy with my vacation, we did about 60,000 steps in 3 and 1/2 days which is quite good in my opinion. Surprising, since we did a LOT of Mario Kart Wii as well. Can't wait to do the same next year.

It had a mix of ticket games and arcade classics, tho it didn't use actual tickets or coins. It used cards loaded with cash and you'd earn digital tickets to store on the card. I played piano tiles, crossy road, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero Arcade, a racing game (I forgot the name) and a bunch of ticket winning games. Also did Go-Carts and Mini Golf, it was all a lot of fun :D

It was still cool I believe, I just wish I get to go to an arcade one day, I've absolutely never been. Something like in Wreck It Ralph, man would that be awesome. Like your own hometown arcade.

Oof, reading the comments I start feeling bad I was able to enjoy 2 week vacation lounging near the sea AND climbing mountains.

But just to give quick answer - went on a road trip with my wife in the first two weeks of July. Went to Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia with driving through and making fuel/food stops in Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland. Drove about 5000 km. The target was "road trip" so it was not regular vacation to fly somewhere and then lounge there for days, but we went pretty much from place to place. But over the trip managed to see Warsaw old city, visited water park, really impressive caves in Slovenia, old pirate city in Slovenia (Pirana), in Croatia visited Pula, Zadar, Plitvice - went snorkeling, kayaking, speed boating, hiking. And on the way back home in Slovakia even managed to climb Tatra mountains - managed to climb Rysy. That pretty much killed my legs as well. 9 hour hike, 1300m elevation. Had my friends vacationing in Tatra mountains in mountain hut, so decided to combine our road-trip with staying 3 days with them and climbing as well.

Overall though it did include also working for both me and my wife, since vacation per say does not exist. Work does not stop. For my main employer I did hand in vacation but freelance projects had to be continued. So used available moments for catching up with work - in hotel/campsite, while the other person was at the wheel, in the breakfast or lunch before doing some activities. Its a busy schedule and busy busy vacation, but I guess working 3-4 hours a day is already nothing after doing 10-12 daily.

Oh.. almost forgot. Of course had my SteamDeck with me so played some games in the evenings as well.

Vacation? You are describing an exploration journey around the entire world! Sounds like your had a killer time (your legs know what that means). My brother always says that "what's the point of a vacation if it's exhausting?" and I always say, it's about the experience and the memories. For the amount of things you saw, I think the trouble was totally worth it. It sucks you still had to do some work stuff and I can imagine it ruined the mood a little bit. But hey, it's better than doing it in the office, right? Well, really depends on the kind of work but usually any environment outside of your regular one is an improvement.

I wonder what games you played on your SteamDeck...

"what's the point of a vacation if it's exhausting?"

Oh yeah, I've heard this before as well. I believe this was already 4th time I have went to climb mountains on my vacation in the recent years. You truly need a moment to rest from those kinds of vacations :D But me and my wife can't even imagine going to sea or hotel and just sleep/drink/eat for a week or two :D We flew last year to Tenerife and stayed in airBnB. And even there we worked, hiked the volcano and even on rest days we managed to walk around the city. Since you already sit around office on your work days, I just want to move and enjoy the outdoors on vacation.

It sucks you still had to do some work stuff

Honestly - not really. I do enjoy my work. Same as my wife. While of course a lot of things are left to finish up when coming back, some urgent or big things that come up at the time usually simply need to be finished. I know many people dont understand this, but since for us work/life balance is already good, having to do some work on weekends or holidays does not bother us. Plus my wife's work even pays sometimes for personal "retreats" for us. Last year we went on a paid ski trip... So with such perks comes also dedication to really work extra and I totally understand that when you work in big corp where you are a small cog in a cubicle, the last thing you want to do is work at home :D As I mentioned I did take vacation for one workplace which is sort of big corp. and completely ignores emails or massages there. But other projects I still keep going.

I wonder what games you played on your SteamDeck

This time it was actually only Saints Row :D Since I won that in Playing Appreciated group.

Well then, guess its my turn to rant a bit about my free time : I live in a mountain area so we have a load of option for hiking, plus a ton of lakes and some waterfalls.
