I tried warlock 2 and AOW3 and hands down feel that AOW3 is a better game. The turn based combat alone really makes it a more compelling title. Overall it just feels more like a polished full featured game. I haven't touched Warlock once since I installed AOW3.

The Age of Wonders series is significantly different from Civ. AoW cities are more like HOMM than Civ, and AoW battle-groups are led by a hero (HOMM style). Battles are fought in the turn-based strategy style. AoW3 is different from the previous AoW titles, so I'd recommend a YouTube video to see the gameplay.
As for Warlock, it is very similar to Civ. Ever heard of the Fall From Heaven mod for Civ IV? If you want Civ with a fantasy flavor, Warlock is a good choice.
Another game you may consider is Fallen Enchantress. FE is a bit different than Warlock, sort of a combination of Civ and HOMM, but check out YouTube for a gameplay video. Also, please note that Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes is a bit different from the vanilla game.

I say, you should consider Endless and WOnder, wonder already come out, and it good, while endless is not , just wait until it come out, and see the critic
Pass, Warlock 2 . it not very good, in my opinion
Althought, if you want REALLY good, pick something old, like Age of wonder 1, Disciple 1 , ...etc

I'm a huge fan of the Age of Wonders series, but if you really want to try it out the older games of the series are really cheap at GOG.com, you can try it out and see for yourself if it's worth it to get the newest one.

I really like Warlock 2, but then I liked the first game, and it's basically more of the same but better, with an Exiled mode where you expand across multiple small maps to beat a final boss. They're an acquired taste. They're one unit per tile, the enemy AI is far less of a threat than the random monster spawns (if you act like you're playing Civ, they will murder your entire nation), you can only have five "real" cities (you can increase the number, but not by that much, and your other cities have to be converted to very basic one-purpose towns), and Exiled mode is a wee bit scripted - events occur and after a couple of games you can prepare. Stockpile gold before triggering one thing, get meta-teleportation cast to transport your big troubleshooter hero and shut down the enemies that spawn when you trigger another thing.
It's really fun, but not for everyone.
It's also just over half price on Nuuvem, which is where I bought it.

Older games: If you haven't played the earlier Age of Wonders games and just want to try a good Fantasy TBS 4X game, the earlier Age of Wonders games are pretty great, and cheap on GOG. On sale this weekend as well. Disciples 3 is apparently terrible, and the "fixed" re-release version just makes it playable, not good. Fall from Heaven is good if you haven't looked into Civ mods before!

Warlock also has voice acting for units that must be heard to be believed. I was sold on Warlock 1 the first time I built the basic undead flying warship and clicked on it. "FLYING GALLEUS!"
I'm shallow, and it's terrible, but it's a glorious kind of terrible that never really gets old.

Age of Wonders is a solid franchise, but I haven't tried the newest. I would try Warlock (the first) before getting the second, it was in a bundle and shouldn't be too hard to get cheap. As for Endless Legend, I really liked Endless Space, and I suspect that Endless Legend will be a high quality, well polished game. However, I haven't tried it yet.

Hi guys!
I'm a huge fan of CIVILIZATION series, but now i'm watching that a lot of similar games comes out, like the three in the title, and I really want to try a turn-based strategy game like Civilization, but in a Fantasy World.
I don't know so much yet about Endless Legend, but the other two seems very interesting, and the choice is really hard, since I don't have money to take all these games.
So, if you should choose one of these games, what will be your choice? Or maybe there is another masterpiece incoming?
PS = There is also the new CIVILIZATION (beyond earth) that I'll buy for sure.. but it will come out only in the end of this year, is a lot of time! :(
Thank you.
