I thought they were using some costum models from other modders (with permission) and even some of Valve's models too (such as the vortigaunts' main body feature, the collars are new). I just didn't know they were going to do voice acting at all. Other mods such as Decay and that of the Dreamcast port of the game just straight ripped that from the originals, don't see a reason why they shouldn't have been able to do the same. It's probably for the better though.

What is this... 3 you speak of? I do not understand this concept.

It's a joke/estimation based on their developement time on the project, which seems to be taking forever.

His was a joke relating to the fact that there is no [insert valve game] with a 3 e.g. half-life 3

It was meant to be how Hife-Life 1 would be if it was made in the source engine at the same time as Half-Life 2. I've played through HL1 quite a few times and I haven't seen that much difference between that Black Mesa video and the base game.
I know people were getting annoyed with the magnum iron-sights but that really just replaced the suit's zoom in feature so I'm not really all that upset. The voice acting on the soldiers is pretty hilariously bad, never was a fan of the "hollywood badguy" persona.
Personally my main gripe with Black Mesa would be the abominably massive development time which kept promising to release every few years but failed to do so. The lack of feed back to the fans which turned a whole bunch of people against them.
It looks like they might've bricked themselves into the "Duke Nukum Forever trap" of hyping up a game and releasing a product no matter how good or bad that could compete with that hype.

I didn't mind the iron sight for the magnum, it's still better than its scope in multiplayer... The big difference between the original and this that actually made me raise an eyebrow was how "open" the area of the launch site was. There were some massive walls to the launch site in the original, and now it's all out in the open. The rocket is on the surface too, which is weird because you go around it beforehand, underground, and see it from close. It just feels really different, but as I said, that's not necessarily bad.
Voice acting... I'm glad it at least has it. The original HECU grunts always sounded like those bad guys you mentioned, and their voice acting was not top-notch either, especially in Opposing Force. ESPECIALLY in its Boot Camp. It was so cheesy.

I imagine the reason why they opened up the launch site was to make it look a hell of a lot prettier and to add some gameplay depth. If the engine can support it they might as well show it off.
As for the HECU in HL1 I have to agree they were always a little cheesy but they were extremely muffled so it didn't come across too bad. Opposing Force was made by a different development team (Gearbox) so I wasn't all that surprised to see how horrid and cheesy the voice acting was in that game.

Seems like there are now gameplay videos too on the Black Mesa: Source mod. Check out the gameplay vid here, it's from about the end of On A Rail.
I'm not sure I like the idea of altering it so much, though this and the addition of new weapons and rooms might be providing a new experience. I mean, if I wanted to play Half-Life, I'd play the original, and I do that a tad lot anyway. This one's going to be different, here's hoping it will be also a good one. I appreciate the voice acting too, this seems to be an almost from-scratch Source mod.
