"Out of the box" it is a military "sim," mainly focused on foot soldiers, but it has tanks, artillery, helicopters, aircraft, etc. There are tons of mods for it to make it into other things, as MisterWuh said. There are communities that even do role play stuff in it. I just play coop missions with a few friends, nothing special.

+1 Just started a new world in Terraria last weekend. I still have a blast whenever I play that game with friends.

Coop games, not multiplayer! :D
Co-op is multiplayer. Multiplayer just refers to any game with multiple human players in it.
The word you're looking for PvP or Competitive. :)
Or in the case of a game like Dead by Daylight, Asymmetrical Team Competitive. Y'know, if you want to be precise. :P
- Competitive / PvP is any mode where one or more players faces off against one or more players. There may or may not also be environmental or AI challenges hindering the players.
- Cooperative / Co-op / PvE is a mode where two or more players face off against AI or environmental challenges, with no opposing players. (Ex)
- Competitive Co-op is a niche subgenre of co-op where two or more players face off against an AI or environmental challenges, while also competing against other players (or their main teammates) [and usually just for end score]. (Ex, Ex)
- Team Competitive / Team PvP is a subgenre of PvP where one group of players faces off against another group of players [and may or may not also have environmental or AI challenges]. (Ex, most any typical online-multiplayer FPS game.)

If you're up for aRPGs like Torchlight 2, definitely check out Path of Exile. I don't remember the party limit, because I've only ever played with 3, but I am pretty sure it's more than 4.
Right now, the only others I can think of for so many players are PvP play games like Runbow.

Starbound (maybe you need to edit some config files), Path of Exile (up to 6), Broforce (up to 4 unfortunately)

Yes, a very good connection is mandatory if you want to host a game. Too bad there are no free, official servers.

No More Room in Hell can be played by up to ... um ... I think 8 players. It is also free to play. It is rather slow zombie game where you have to either defend areas or do mission objectives. Animations look sometimes a bit clunky, especially third person. But as you can get surrounded easily the game has some emphasis on team play and coordination.
Not sure how it is today but you should avoid joining unlimited ammo Servers which have been implemented against the wishes of the developers. It goes against the complete design and basic idea of the game. So try to play it the way it was intended to also if it means dying a lot.

Hello! I would like to know if there are good games that you can play up to 5 players, at least more than 4.
We know a few titles like Torchlight II, Serious Sam 3 and Killing Floor. Do you guys know anything more?
Thanks!
Edit: Remember, we don't wanna multiplayer games!
