I know this is totally offtopic from STEAMGIFTS, but I really need your help :). I want to buy a new phone, and I can't decide which one to choose: The Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X.

I will start by presenting some facts:
•Both phones obviously have a lot of processing power, both are kind of the same at this part.
•The price does not matter that much, because they cost about the same.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, please look at this before you vote: http://i.imgur.com/F8crN.png

Feel free to leave comments, and please vote here (it really helps me): http://poll.pollcode.com/tcs7gk

Please argument your decision :)

I have the S3, and I love it. Never used HTC One X, but I'm sure it's a good phone. Personally, I would recommend the S3 since I have it.

Since I gather that your not in the US I would say S3 for the slightly better GPU. HTC sense is better than Touchwiz by a mile though

HTC is better than Touchwiz, but it uses tons of resources :D

I would've chosen the S3 without even thinking if it didn't had that pentile matrix display.

I hate the man that thought of putting that kind of rubbish on a cool device.

I suggest you try one yourself, either from someone else or from a shop with a demo unit. I have had the chance to see it first hand and at that resolution the pentile matrix isn't really a problem.

I've seen the S3 countless times, and the display didn't seem to nice.
I am going today to see it again, and to search for the One X .

HTC One X ofc. S3 causes a lot of problems. My brother bought One X before a month and I have Desire HD. So yes... HTC is better than Samsung.

I had a HTC Desire HD...one of the best phones I had! That is the reason why I like HTC so much.

LG Optimus G... if it is available. Between the two phones, I would pick the One X. Be sure to root and run a custom ROM though.

Why custom ROM ?

Vendor roms are generally all terrible. You can break out a bit with apps that override, but the vendor garbage still loads. It is disgusting. I love my Optimus G for many reasons, but right now there are no roms and that is why in some aspects, my Galaxy S was much, much better. http://gizmodo.com/5973073/an-iphone-lovers-confession-i-switched-to-the-nexus-4-completely

Galaxy S3, but get a protective case with it be cause it is very flimsy and can shatter just by dropping it on a hardwood floor

I'm usually overprotective with my stuff...I never scratch or break them. xD

I'd still get a case. I've had several friends break theirs day one

Samsung Galaxy S3 is what I would get. Just my personal preference but you can't go wrong with the HTC One X either.

I'd nominate the Razr Maxx HD to be in the running. I've had it since november and i can go 2 days without charging with heavy use (music, plague inc/ fruit ninja.) However, battery is drained when in a dead zone or the phone cant get service. Its drained slower than my old thunderbolt, but it knocks the battery from a nice 97% to an 86-74% every day for me on my way to work (30 min of being in the subway)

Really? I've been thinking of stepping up to that one from my normal razormaxx myself, but if it has battery issues I'll stick with this one

The battery drainage is normal. Its fine if I turn off data when I'm underground. The different usage "Rules" really improve battery life when its in stand bye mode. I like the no bull approach to Jellybean.

depends on how you use it, if you use it purely as a phone, with great usability, iphone5.
but since thats not on your list of choices, id say the one x
i used to have the s2, and it was so buggy, especially with battery issues and os glitches, and i got really annoyed at samsung's touchwiz
my aunt recently got an s3, and got bogged down with problems pretty fast, so i would go for the one x

My personal preference is HTC, though i own a samsung phone but i'm looking to change.
HTC One X design, the HTC interface and support is way better then Samsung.

Don't charge into HTC, the interface is indeed very cool, but it uses tons of resources. I think that is kind of the only problem with HTC Sense.

I've never used the One X, but I have an S3 and I love it. I don't really have any problems with it at all, especially now that it's been updated to Jelly Bean. The One X definitely looks solid though.

Galaxy S III mainsly has a larger batery capacity. On other aspects their pretty the same, but Galaxy still wins ^_^

From where I'm standing, the S3 lacks screen quality and the HTC lacks battery life.

An IPhone 5 Obiously

Because Apple is a great company that would do anything for their customers. And they are sooooo innovative.

(I'm the odd one out in my family because I'm the only one with an HTC amongst legions of Samsung users)

I therefore can't suggest either of those Samsung models because HTC and me are best buddies. I've had my Desire HD for ages and it's yet to let me down or make me feel like it's not good enough for my constant usage. Finally I own something portable that gives me "all in one". So my suggestion is the latest HTC model, the powerful HTC One SV.

It's not that powerful, it has a Qualcomm® S4 1.2 GHz, 5 megapixel camera and a bad screen (480 x 800 pixels, 4.3 inches (~217 ppi pixel density)...

I found a strange thing:

--As of late 2012, a rising number of users reported that their Samsung Galaxy S3 units had died without warning approximately six months after activation, leaving the phones permanently unresponsive. Samsung has been replacing the mainboards of affected units under warranty.--

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III#Sudden_Death

I remember my mother having problems on her S2 in the recent passed year...I had to change the phone twice from Samsung. I hope that event won't repeat itself after the warranty expires.

Samsung already let out that they're releasing a firmware update that will prevent the S3 from dying unexpectedly. (Don't have the link on had at the moment though) Seems like it can be addressed through an update.
