The developers of this game are selling this for U$1.00 only.

So what is the catch?
The catch is: If they get 10 millions pre-orders, you receive the game key plus the soundtrack. If they dont get it, all the money will go to Charity.

If the number of pre-ordered games reaches ten million then 10% of the income will be donated to the charity. Also, anything above ten million will be shared 50/50 between NEG and the charity organisation.

Afterfall: InSanity will be available to players from November 25th!

but is it on steam!?????

seriously though anyone know if this game is actually worth a $1? seems like it could be a buggy scam

edit: this is not good from what I'm understanding unless they actually sell 10 million copies noone gets their game and one dollar is used to discount buy the game at whatever price they decide....and who knows if they actually donate it to charity

it's still worth a try. It is for games who are crazy enough to risk 1 dollar. even if it's a scam, which I believe is not, we will have participated in one of the funniest scams of the gaming world :)))

come on, it's worth the risk.. I'm in!!

Well to be fair. 10 million seems a bit excessive.
I was just reading the "About" page just now and the concept of the game intrests me. Guess I can shell out a big 1 dollar to charity. Can't wait for the game to be released.

EDIT: After more reading of the About page I concluded that I want a lot more information before donating even 1 dollar.

Lol 10 million. Just hope they will be nice and choose to give the game in the end regardless. Otherwise, as Lolcats said, it's still for charity :)

From their About page:
"If we don’t succeed in reaching ten million pre-orders, ALL of the money collected from pre-orders will be donated to the charity and the Afterfall: InSanity will be sold at the price of $33.90$ (this price reflects a $1 discount)."

They're never going to make it to 10 million. Heck, even 1 million is going to be tough to get to.

Yea it sounds more fishy than anything else. They're vague on the whole charity bit, and it is discouraging that they don't actually give you the game for ordering. While that may sound unreasonable, if they actually did both things they would make more money. Better yet, they should have just made a deal with the HB people. That way they can still make a good bit of money off of a limited time, and people know what charities the money goes to.

This is why I haven't paid anything. They keep saying how the money will go to 'one of the biggest charities', but nowhere do they specify which one this is or even what the charity is focused on, and that's shady enough.

They only specify that if they don't get 10 million preorders, all of the money will go to charity... they don't exactly say that you don't still get the game :P

Further, on the "BUY" page it makes no stipulation of not receiving the game for $1

If they only specify that you don't get the game if they don't make 10 million preorders on the video they are misleading bungholes... since I don't feel like watching their video... but I am willing to preorder their game for $1.

I'm on the fence about this one. If I do preorder, it would be at the 5 million point. Although since the bar is so high, I dont think they intend 10 million preorders.

Indeed. But if all goes according to plan, it should go to charity.

If it all goes according to plan, Paypal will be freezing the Afterfall devs' account due to the sheer flood of disputes they will be receiving from all those folks who thought they were going to get the game for $1 regardless of goals met, arguing misrepresentation of product >.<

I paid 4 copies, but if I get only 4$ discount I'll open disput at paypal, noone needs this discounts, they can make half discount for preorders, not 1$ that all already paid.

you'll get 1$ off each copy, meaning you'll be able to get four copies for each 34$. not one for 31$

You probably won't be able to file a dispute if you pay now. As far as I know, you can only do so up to 45 days after the payment.

10 million is a completely unrealistic goal. Hell, 1 million would be, too. Get rid of another zero, and it'd be just about possible.

To put it in perspective, Minecraft has about 3.8 million paid players, and that's total, not just pre-orders, over the span of 2 years. Minecraft has an insanely successful word-of-mouth ad campaign, and this game isn't even released yet.

It's "only $1", which would be a great deal, but you're not paying for the game -- you're paying for the possibility of receiving the game at some point, should they sell 10 million, and I just can't see that happening, ever.

As stated before, I highly doubt they actually expect to make 10 million preorders. Still, I'll check back on the 20th of November or so and see how close they are. If they are near 10 mil, I may just do it.

10 million pre-orders would easily make it one of the top ten best selling PC games in history on pre-orders alone.

I hate to be a pessimist, but there is absolutely no way that will ever happen.

It would make it the most preordered game of all time.
I doubt they will get 50k, the counter has gone from 15k to 14k since yesterday lol

As everyone says: not going to happen! If they we're reasonable they would have asked for 1 million tops. That might have been possible.
I'll drop a preorder on the last days if they get close to it.

This is what lots of people are going to do, and this is part of why it's not going to work. I'm not saying you should commit (because I don't believe this will happen either), but if everyone waits for others to make it happen... yeah.

Judging from their site, this will last until Nov 25th. 1 million would be stretching it to breaking point. 100k is probably doable.

I see just one remote chance this could work -- with some middle service that would gather the $1 contributions, and just before the deadline (give or take some time to prevent DoS), it would either return all contributions to their original senders, or post the 10M preorders.

The problems? Several. Such service would cost some money itself (e.g. the transactions themselves don't come for free). Also, it'd be just as shady as the unspecified "charity". And it might not work. Ahem ahem.

That having been said, it might be an interesting $35 game once it comes out. :-)

This. They'll probably get in trouble with PayPal over this.

The website doesn't really mention the fact that you're not getting the game if they don't hit their goal. "We will give every $ to charity" sort of implies it, but it's never explicitly mentioned.

Yep, I've screencapped the site just to be safe, but I feel like they're being pretty deceitful by not being upfront. I didn't watch the video until AFTER I bought some copies :) I didn't know what kind of game it was or that it would usually sell for $20-$30... I assumed it was a cheap ass indie game.

The way they phrase it makes it seem like they won't make any money unless they sell 10 million... not necessarily that they won't honor any preorders.

Yeah it's weird, when you click past it though it should go to your language.

But I recommend not going through with it. I bought 5 copies without having seen the video... which is where they actually reveal that you aren't getting shit for your "preorder" unless they make $10million between now and the end of November.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What they're supposedly giving you is $1 in credit towards the full game, which costs $35. So, the "preorder purchase" for $1 deal is just a way for them to get a lot of preorder down payments. I can't imagine that anyone who bought multiple preorder copies for $1 each would necessarily be open to putting out $34 for the full game later. This reeks of a marketing ploy that veers too far into scam territory.
