What should be the victor?
I just read my comment and I realized that it may sound as if I was confused. But don't worry I actually just wanted to post that gif to show that I'm looking forward to the start of the event :D, but then I thought I should write about the topic itself. Jeah.... :D

So after 24 hours you're going to list the achievement check here, and also the poll winner (game as GA)?
Sounds interesting, I'm curious.
I've tried a few achievements hunting in certain games, but they're really tough. I completed Fez achievements, but when I tried on the Tomb Raider reboot, I got so dizzy looking for things after many hours I had to quit and uninstall...not good for my health that was :D

But how will you ensure that people don't just use SAM to unlock a ton of achievements prior to the giveaways starting, to maximize their chances of matching the correct ones?
Just saying that you'll have to be on the lookout for suspicious patterns that suggests SAM use either way. (Such as unlocking an improbable amount of very hard/unusual achievements in many different games over a very short amount of time).

I own 759 games currently on steam, I will probably pick a few of those. If someone wants to go through my profile and unlock difficult achievements for 759 games or a large majority of them, they are welcome to enter the giveaway.
However, if I see anything shady I will blacklist them and re-roll the giveaway, I will thoroughly check the winner to ensure everything is above board.
Ideally I'd love to say "these are the achievements, you have a week to get them", unfortunately a few bad eggs stop us all having nice things, so this is the best way I can compromise.
The ONLY reason to use SAM in my eyes is to unlock otherwise bugged achievements, especially if said bugged achievement leaves you on 99% or something.

Why don't you just check the users on astats or likely achivement sites?
SAM users are 99,9% not welcome and it'll get em banned there, if you use enhanced Steam addon or whatever you can just go to their Steam Profile and click on astats as you would click your way to their SG/Steam Rep profile :}
And it'll tell directly if they've been cheating their way to "glory" or not!

I use astats for my own personal "what do I need to get" tally.
I'd hate it to tell me people are cheats who have used SAM for buggy achievements.
Going to be honest and tell you I'm using this as a trial run for hopefully a more regular thing, toying with a few ideas of what will work and what won't work so well. If I have a better look into astats and enhanced steam I'll keep it in mind for a future giveaway.
I would like there to be some way of me giving people an idea of what games they should be playing to try and unlock the achievements as getting people to play games I like and getting a community going is the entire idea of the giveaway! :)

Does that mean there's a reasonably easy way to find out if people are using SAM (for those sites to be able to ban them in the first place), or do they do manual investigations as well? Technically, a sly SAM user could pace himself and make it look like he earned them legitimately if there is no actual trace other than the timestamp.

Well the timestamps does tell all the stories about them in most cases, youd have to come clean in a forum post why the reasons for that would be to get unbanned.. And they also do it manually afaik if they get a report, bugged/broken achivements are easily seen as they get them on Steam but they show as broken but still obtainable after that date which should be impossible.
There is one time even SAM is accepted at astats, it's the only way to remove achivements and the only way to give a cheater a second chance :)

Yeah, and even then I'd be hesitant since people would be able to guess that you used it to bypass the bug (since you shouldn't be able to get it) and might still dislike it :<

I have sympathy for people who put in countless hours, meet the requirements of the achievement, only for it to not unlock. I'm not crazy on having to have 100% on every game I own or every game I have an achievement for, but I know some completionists it would drive them wild. I would hate to punish people who have genuinely achieved what the achievement wants them to do but haven't been rewarded so they rewarded themselves.
I mean what is "cheating", I wouldn't punish someone who alters their clock to get time based achievements like when Batman wanted you to play on certain calender dates. It was cheating, but at the same time the person certainly went to the effort to earn the achievement and they did technically do what the game wanted them to do. However if someone was to just unlock the same achievement in SAM I would class that as cheating. What about save-scumming your way through a legendary Ironman X-Com run? That's "cheating" but again, they earned it and didn't just click and unlock it with SAM.
It's such a subjective, hard to define, grey area "cheating" when it comes to single player games. I personally think as long as you are having fun go nuts, the games there to be played however you want to play it, so long as you are PLAYING the game. Using SAM is not playing the game in my eyes.
I want this to be fun and hope it will push people to enjoy their games more and/or perhaps get more out of old games they thought had no life left in them, if it causes any bother I'll just end the event. I'd like to think most people will enter into it in the spirit it is intended! :)

you can't reroll based on custom rules.
be sure to check people before adding them to your whitelist.
people don't need to use cheats to get the achievements, just state that the achievements should be unlocked before this thread was announced.

Firewatch or I'm gonna cry. ;_; Let's beat Farmv.....eehhm, I meant Stardew Valley. Who's with me? Let's vote for Firewatch! I probably won't have the achievements needed, but still, Firewatch is the game that deserves to be given away.

UPDATE: At a friends at the minute, but Poll ended, the giveaway will be Stardew, will post the achievements later
Hello guys, I drop in and out of the forums every few months, but whilst I'm here I like to try and do something a little bit special! I haven't seen this for a while so I thought I'd start one right now...
ACHIEVEMENT GIVEAWAY
How does this work?
Simple really, I will post a few achievements(they won't be easy) and if you can prove to me you have them prior to the giveaway starting(to prevent cheating you dirty SAM users) you get to enter the giveaway, isn't that cool!
Why base it on achievements?
I am a semi-achievement hunter, I like taking the effort to get achievements on games I like, hopefully this can promote a few people hunting some achievements in the future or even better promote games I love and give them exposure Spoiler/Hint alert, the achievements will probably for games I like, I won't necessarily have them myself though
I have made the requirements how do I enter?
I will blue heart you and you can enter the blueheart giveaway I'll post once we have a winner in our poll! :D
I'm already a blueheart, can I enter?
Yes. I already love you. Check if you are by trying to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the page.
How are you going to pick the game to giveaway?
Vote in the above poll, when I wake up in the morning I will edit the thread to announce the winner which will obviously be the one with the most votes. So you have around 24 hours to make your choice!
Is this going to be your only achievement giveaway?
Hell nah, I hopefully will make this a semi-active idea, don't want to put a timescale on it though, so drop some cool achievement ideas in the thread as well for future gibs!
Firewatch
Goliath
Stardew Valley
Armello
Am I a blueheart check
EDIT: The poll chooses the game I am giving away not the game the achievements are based on! :) I will pick a few achieves at random from a few games.
