Can you feel the cringiness running through your body?
Sadly I cannot give you back the seconds of your life invested on pointing out that.

There are funny bits about it but sometimes it feels forced, anyway, enjoy the show!

I'm usually not a fan of most of the bands at award shows, but that's probably due to the variety of "popular" music. Didn't much like the first rap group, but the Doom theme I actually liked.
I agree, the Schick mascot was a bit out of place, but that's really the only thing I could call remotely "cringe-worthy." Sponsors and all, I guess, but that's to be expected with any big broadcast event.

Found the rap artists to actually have a good DJ/music, but the vocalists... that was just bad... they were so out of breath... it was pretty awful to watch.
I like metal, so that bit was kinda neat, but I don't begrudge others their negative opinions about it. Definitely still a niche genre.

Mostly, the cringe just happens whenever someone's shilling a product.
My guess is our brains are just reacting to the "dishonesty" (a sort of trust betrayal since your head knows that they're just showing it to you because the sponsor paid them money, and not because they really think it's a great product).
There's certainly geeky personality stereotypes around too, but that part doesn't really bother me (unless they start going creeper over a girl).
(I'm older than you, though, so sorry, not a young-person opinion.)

You got it right and I couldn't express that better. It's been so many years since I stopped watching tv and commercials that I my brain is not used to these things

I'm more worried about the cancerous chat. Oh... and the band selection is just... let's just say, not gaming related.
But nothing will ever beat the cringe of Sonic Birthday Party

I think it's because it's the way old rich dudes that own certain gaming related companies have to look "hip" and "cool" to a younger audience. Cringey af.

I've 25 years old and played games all my life (and had to answer "No, you are just an old fuck." because of your options... age is not a problem, the biggest market in gaming is above 30 years old, so people need to quit those generic ideas).
Really enjoy these kind of shows (where could we had a moment like we had at the begining with Hideo Kojima?) and i'm glad that they've one show that got near Oscars since when they tried to do some different things it always went so wrong... The gaming market also needs a show to honor the creators with a touch of class. "Cring"y was last years with actors and only famous people outside gaming world, that is not needed. It's true that there are great gaming shows like PSX, Blizzcon, etc... even Nintendo Direct is a great way to promote their products but at the end of the year i think a show like this is great to establish gaming (and nowadays get even better with the big promotion of esports and streaming everywhere, giving many people another way of living).

I agree with you, but Michael Phelps today...why... You could see his confusion in his face

If we look in the gaming perspective, a legend gamer would be fitter to introduce the prize to the best esports player. But Michael Phelps is a legend of sport, in fact a person that will stay forever in history, so him giving the prize was even more amazing and prestigious (and he is a gamer, not just a face to appear in a place that he knows nothing).
I see your point but i think people just like to look for bad stuff instead of enjoying what they get/have, we overanalyze things when people are just trying to making an effort to show their love for what they do.

Because as much as it thinks it is, the gaming industry is nowhere near as mature as it wants to be no matter if it sits on top of revenue and the testbed for most "innovation" in the entertainment and arts industries. Its audience is also its problem yet is a byproduct of it.
It'll start being "more serious", or rather broader or credible when the creators will start originating from a wider set of creators and developers and not "people of gaming". (no I don't mean the toxic crowds that "want to be heard" no matter where they find themselves on an ideological standpoint)
To be honest though, I work strategy in the independent music industry and most award shows are still a huge pile of self-congratulatory backhanded bullshit.

That trailer kinda bring me back hope, I don't care if they "push their agendas" with the game, I just want to be Commander Shepard again (I know Shepard is not going to be there, but that's what imagination is for)

It's cringey because it's made for normies, not actual gamers.

They are definitely not perfect but I love seeing video games being given the spotlight, they should be appreciated more by the mainstream media in some way as an art form, just like movies, music and such. Sadly this means they have to do something similar to the Oscars or whatever to appeal the regular folk, which, I don't know if you noticed but the Oscars and Emmy's can be cringey too :P

I am 25 years old and I have played videogames all my life, but I still feel awkward and cringy while seeing these events, does younger people feel the same?
I think that they are trying too hard to be like the Oscars, Emmy, and other famous awards. I think they should try to do their own thing and stop imitating the same format in order to stop the cringe.
