True. The only excuse for that is CS:GO skins are a commodity, like jewels, only in the virtual world. A little like stock shares. But only because of the gambling sites based around CS skins. If they ever shut it down, their value would just vanish.

I don't think the Mobile Authentication is the reason we are losing supplies.

It's the cause of the decreased supply (while demand is still great). Leading to an increase in price.
If it's not needing a mobile phone not to have a 15-day ban, it's having to confirm... each... single... darn.... transaction that a lot of people are fed up with.

it's exactly the reason why. nobody wants to f*ck with this steam authenticator to list backgrounds and emoticons for jack. esp, for UK, EU, and US, which pays the super high tax amount for the first 0.03.

in countries with low value currency, you can buy the 10 gem items now to turn into bags to sell for profit (but not worth the time really, it makes you a few cents)

i have thousands of cards that are worth 4 or 5 cents on an alt acct, because i have no way of confirming them easily, using bluestacks

Stock is dwindling because it just isn't worth turning stuff into gems outside of Valve related cards/emoticons and backgrounds. Everything else is just not worth it. I really wish Valve would allow us to convert other stuff into gems such as TF2 crates or items, even if the value is lower I still wouldn't mind dumping all my crates into gems. I'm pretty sure Valve has given up on creating new fun and exciting things to do/craft during sales so once the stock is gone I'm sure they're gone forever.

Hopefully we get something fun for the Summer sale, honestly the comic ARG was pretty bland and uneventful.

It just wouldn't work for this kind of listing where all items are the same, or at least it shouldn't

Database error, most likely

But why, oh why, does it happen only on sacks of gems? It's a conspiracy, I'm sure!

Yeah, but nobody knew.

If you have bought 200 sacks of gems for $0.11 back then, it would have cost you $22. Selling them right now for $1(with fees) each, you'd get $180 without fees.

Of course the next morning they were all gone and my money returned. Did keep the boosters I crafted (wish I gotten more) and also had quite a few buy orders go through due to the price decrease of boosters and cards that I kept.

It really is mostly just to give Valve more money (since they are the 100 gem stuff)... lot's of others that are cheap, still thousands of $0.03 that never sells. Most BG and emoticon prices now depends solely on gems. Which actually makes low gem-values much better if it's a thing you like.

You have to consider transaction fees, though.
Ultimately, you'd be looking to a few cents of profit per Sack of Gems, but that'd mean:

  1. that you'd need some Steam wallet money to even start, and
  2. you'd need to wait a week to sell Gems made from market-bought items...
    • ...with the added risk of their price falling, turning your profit negative

I've never really understood why Skyrim cards have always been more expensive than others (by a few cents) but Football Manager is not different from Tomb Raider or Reus, they have always been the same price. So if FM is 0,40€ the other cards should go up pretty soon.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I dont see why this should happen. If the cards for FM run out of stock, noone can craft a badge and so the other 9 cards are worthless. So the price increase only happens to the FM cards

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It won't go out of stock before a long time, some people still have some, they will decide the price.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes but as long as the difference between FM and all other cards are that high, the price for the others will not increase. You can maybe try to buy 500 cards from Kerbal Space Program for 11 or 12 cent and hope that the price increase after you´ve done that, but at the moment I dont think that there will be any increase.

You mean with "supply is running out" that the ppl dont have the cards any more or that they will be removed by steam in the future?

Very likely he meant that the cards will run out, but that won't happen in 20+ years. There will be always the guy who just forgets owning summer getaway cards or the casual steam users who doesn't understand the market and never checked their inventory, or the guy who stopped using steam for whatever reason for years, etc... I mean, you just had to do anything during the 2013 summer sales and you got the card.

Maybe if you can get them for 1.3€ but don't expect to see them to 10€ very soon, it's more like a long term investment. I don't think people realized that this set is an exception in the history of Steam sales, they still believe it's an old worthless crap.
The positive thing is that, unlike CSGO economy, it does not depend on a game, so it will never crash until Steam lives.

Permalink

Exactly my thoughs. Even csgo has its life-cycle, but Steam will be with us a very, very long time unless something radical happens in the game industry. The only growth block with the foils is that you can craft the foild badge only once per account.

I have already bought 50 full sets of the basic summer sale badge cards.

Non-mobile people? They generally need to undercut by a lot to guarantee a sale 15-days in the future with unsuspecting fluctuations in the meantime.
Only logical reason I can think of, even though I sometimes got like a $0.03 buy for a $0.07 order too before that shit was in effect.

If you look at the Charts, price has been going up with a spike and not going down. also Supplies are dwindling and people need gems to make boosters for cards. also not many cards offer back much gems to resupply the Sacks thus Demand is high, Supply is low.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thing is now it's mainly going up because of the steam Mobile confirmation. The thing is it'll never Be 2€ for example, you already overpay for making boosterpacks etc, noone is going to buy these for that much. Another thing that it's bound to the card's value to gem ratio, it was a really Big loss so that's one reason it CAN increases, but I don't think it'll increases much.

Its the trading market. Its easy to tell when traders discuss the value of items. I even have friends that are badge crafting galore that jump all the way to lv5 and ask friends to help make boosters then trade the booster back to open and insta craft. And believe me, most either go low gems revalue and rarely go high unless its really popular but VN/Anime/JRPG usually give back high gem but at high cost.

Step 1: choose a card from your inventory

  • example - Skyrim card
Step 2: crush it into gems
  • Skyrim cards make 20 gems
Step 3: realize that you just destroyed value
  • Skyrim cards currently sell for 0,11€-0,13€, that's 1/8 of the cost of a sack of gems
  • selling 8 Skyrim cards equals roughly to a sack of 1000 gems, that's 6 times more than what you'd get by crushing them
Step 4: see why noone turn cards into gems?
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Because most people don't bother to convert items into gems, pack them into sacks and list them on the market. That's why. Most people that do/did that listed their sacks of gems once the chance to make money from those items that never sell occured right away. Over time the supply of new sacks goes down as most people will rather sell the cards directly (most of the cards are still worth more sold directly than their respective gem value).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

(most of the cards are still worth more sold directly than their respective gem value)

I think this is mostly the issue, yes you can turn your items into gems, but the amount you get of gems is not worth it. at least not the last time I checked.

"You have yet to learn the market in it's deeper form"

Actually, I think he understands it fine, and you don't understand basic economics.

It takes 10 gems to equal a cent, give or take a few hundredth's of a cent.

100 cards worth 10 gems = enough for one sack, currently valued at $1.08-1.10
100 cards worth .1 cent in sale = $1.00

Considering that almost every card is worth more in cent sale price than it is gems, people sell their cards for value.

They COULD convert to gems - but there would be no reason whatsoever to do so, you are throwing away money when you do. There is no resupply because there is NO DEMAND - you are drastically overvaluing the demand on Gems.
