Somebody who isn't me and wouldn't think of breaking his NDA was in since early alpha, and spent a lot of time testing the game up until shortly before release. Here's his perspective on the matter:
Stay away. It's not worth the $60 price tag, and it will be $30 in a couple of months at most. While it's not a bad game, it has some major issues that are went unfixed for months, and from what this person has seen, most likely won't be fixed. This person is a huge fan of Trion, and it pains them to say such things about them, but the sad reality is that this is a closer to a cash in money grab tie in game for a big movie than it is a stand alone MMO.

Someone who also wouldn't bother breaking NDA and isn't me, played in the Guild Wars 2 alpha. That was buggy right up to the last week and they really thought it wouldn't get polished. Don't judge a game by alpha because devs can do a lot in a short amount of time.

Not entirely true, I was in the SWTOR alpha, that NDA was lifted on release as for other games that my 'friend' played the NDA still applies, since an NDA is a legal document it can be adjusted to fit the companies needs, it's not a set in stone thing and from what I've heard a lot of MMOs carry on their testing after release to test new content etc, lifting the NDA would be pointless in this case.

In the mail it said something about the NDA closing when the last beta weekend started i think. I remember because I figured it was weird it ended on the start of the beta and not the end.
here's what it said:
PLEASE NOTE: The NDA will be lifted on March 22, after which you will be free to live stream, comment, post, tweet, share videos, and otherwise talk about your experiences from the beta event. We encourage you to post any comments you have to the Beta forums.

Yeah, I don't understand this attitude of "The developer's advertisements are better at telling me if a game is good or not than reviewers are." I always assume the trailers are lying and look to the press for help. If there's anything at all positive from the press, I investigate further.

It looks decent, but not for the price of $60.
I'm assuming it is like Guild Wars 2 and having to only pay once to play the game.

Yes and many ppl are shocked caz usually their games are subscription based lol.

Played the beta, didn't really like it. Looks quite generic to me, same old unnecessarily stupid and annoying quests and kinda same old gameplay we've seen in the other 858231 MMOs. I'm sure you can make a better use of those 60 $/€/whateverthefuckyoupaywith.
Just my 2 cents.

I participated in both the beta and the alpha (And I'll be streaming it on twitch tomorrow if anyone wants to ask direct questions or just wants to see the game- not sure if I can post a link here or not to my stream, so I'll refrain unless I'm directly asked) and have some input from the late beta.
[EDIT]: Haha, just to clarify, this information was gathered today (from friends playing) or during the NDA release beta; I streamed a good portion of my play that weekend which I could also link to someone if they really wanted, but while I haven't watched it, I'd guess the link below my post will be more helpful. :)
**BOOK OF GAME INFORMATION START- SHORTY SHORT SUMMARY AT BOTTOM!**
Here is my long two cents on the game (And a little on the company- remember this is all my opinion look at things yourself, too):
First off, Trion is a great company, they have some glitches, but having played their games and having up customer service etc they have always been great about listening working with and using input from their players.
The game itself I think is completely worth the $60 if you're a fan of shooters (Can't really say FPS- it's a TPS). I'll hit a few noteworthy points that I've had people express concerns about or will clarify gameplay information etc:
The game has a really good storyline, characters that have actual personalities that fit they're environment, funny, but in a hardass realistic way. (This is a big selling point for me). The storyline can be completely solod if desired, as another poster said they can get difficult, but it is certainly doable.
The weapon choices are pretty good, and they can be modified (adding in new clips, sights etc. to slightly modify stats).
I enjoy the perk system, and you customize your character with perks (Which you unlock as you "level up")
Vehicles are just fun, there are some issues with a bit of clipping in to certain environmental objects, and if it SERIOUSLY bothers you that you can't smash in to the ton of other players vehicles around when doing open world PvE... well, remember that this is a MMO, and threading through 50 other players at an ARKFALL would kind of be a crappy time.
The enemies scale in difficulty depending on people around the area, so grouping doesn't automatically make everything way easier. They also have weak points you need to aim for- which are different, sometimes between elite and normals, or just different class of enemies (EG- Hellbugs have weak spots in places where they are "glowy" usually, taking down Monarchs and Raider tanks takes specific firing combos etc.)
I personally like the menu, some people have a serious dislike for it- I suggest anyone who gets it takes a little bit to familiarize themselves. You can open the inventory(i), equipment loadout(l), map(m), perks (k I believe), etc with just their corresponding buttons, but the entire menu is linked, so if you want to access something else quickly- just hit the space bar guys- you can access settings right there which is where all the video/audio/account/logging in out etc. options are.
Ammo isn't really an issue in the game, YES you can run out, and I have more than a few times, but generally you'll end up with more than enough while you're fighting (Unless you're missing a whooooole lot) and you can find ammo caches around if you keep an eye on the minimap.
Beyond just the storyline quests, there are many sidequests to complete. Reading them (If you're interested in the story, they mostly have pertinent to the game information, it isn't just go kill this cuz blah blah kind of quests for the most part, you gather some kinds of resources etc now and again. There are also challenges which are fun little things to do to try and net a higher score than people you know. (There are known issues with some of these where they will bug out- so some people end up with stupidly high scores at the moment, I know Trion is aware and trying to get them straightened out)
As you go through the storyline you can phase in to friends "realities" (I guess you'd call them) to help them out if you are past them in a location where something changes.
There are co-op "instances," I guess you could call them, where you queue up with your group to complete objectives.
There are PvP matches, much like queueing for a map in counterstrike or whatever other FPS/TPS game, hold the base against enemy team for points etc, as well as shadow wars (Also PvP related, but I am honestly hazy on this, I never tried it, I think it's some kind of open world PvP thing against other people that are participating in the shadow wars? not sure).
A few specific bugs/complaints I've heard of are:
I've had a friend fall through the map, a few more had a bit of trouble with the phasing, I know that some of the quests can bug out in places so you have to leave the area or phase in and out with a friend to fix, I mentioned vehicle clipping, A touch of rubberbanding- but I haven't had that in a while (Guessing they stabilized the servers more), the ability to jump while shooting really annoys people in PvP and a lot have asked Trion to take the ability out, mobs will get stuck in things occasionally, I did get stuck once, I had the explosions in a cutscene seem a little.. supar to me (only one cutscene), and probably a few other things are still in there (And heck I probably missed some major stuff that didn't even occur to me). Most of these I'm pretty sure Trion is working on or may have already fixed- but just from the end of the testing period.
****SHORTY SHORT SUMMARY HERE FOR NONBOOK READERS!*****
In my opinion- this game basically worth the price of a standard single player game for the storyline and general FPS properties, which is what it's listed at, though it could use a bit more polishing; I think it's pretty darn decent now. Many will say generic- only so much you can do with a shooter unless you add in crazy powers or something, and it isn't like that hasn't been done. With all the added on bonus' of MMOness, a large persistent world (which will expand), teaming with friends, the online PvP, co-op, "guilds", events, etc. it's much more appealing. Plus, with the amount of content Trion likes to add in to their games, you can expect a lot to come out of it in the future, which is appealing (at least to me). Not to mention the pretty darn good support, sense of humor, and a willingness to listen to their playerbase I've seen/experienced from Trion.

Haha, [EDIT: Beta] NDAs are released at game launch- and everything I said was seen in the NDA release beta weekend- I streamed the entire time- or was told to me from the people who are lucky enough to be able to play today. :)
[EDIT] Plus... I was playing the Alpha on the Defiance Friday streams with the Devs, everyone knew I was in Alpha long since. Long as you don't talk about aspects of the game seen in Alpha, they aren't worried about it. ^_~
