I backed Planetary Annihilation because it looked like an awesome game even though they haven't really started on it yet.
This game, though, there's nothing. Isometric party based RPG in a fantasy setting could be ANYTHING. Couldn't they have spent a day or two on a mock up or something? I may be interested when it finally comes out, but without a mock up or SOMETHING more than what's there now... I'm not interested.

Here are 2 articles from Kotaku, that everyone interested in this project should read, and something they should've mentioned in the Kickstarter. It's about a game the creator of Planescape Torment has been itching to create and was thinking of Kickstarting it, that very much resembles what this Kickstarter is all about. It might be the same thing, and it offers many more details about said game.

I think I'm suffering from Kickstarter fatigue. If this was my first Kickstarter I'd probably be all over this, probably at the $35 level (that book sounds amazing), but after 30 odd Kickstarter campaigns I mainly see the drawbacks and things that annoy me. The limited $20 price point for one, the lack of details, the Icewind Dale part. I loved Torment, but found that the combat was the low point.

Well, Torment is not a combat focused game. In fact, you can complete this game with only 4 battles, that are inevitable. Still, I find combat in all infinity engine rpg a pretty much decent interpretation of dnd rules. And good god, those high level spells in Torment... there were not any games with such epic effects for spells.

Torment was definitely not a 'fun' game to play, but damn was it an amazing experience.
I don't think the problem with Infinity Engine RPGs is the combat itself, but rather the D&D rules, which serves itself well in the pen & paper game due to the limitations of that type of game play, but there are so many better ways to deal with combat on the computer.

Well, i suppose incorporating adnd system in these games was more homage to the original dnd franchises than an intention to make gameplay more cool. Although dnd fans do think it's still cool, inspite of all the flaws.

Anyone who's interested in the game should opt for the expansion add-on (unless you're a boss and have a tier that already includes it).
The extra $20 (for add-on-ers) is /not/ being put aside for the expansion, but will be used on the base game. Which means it's a win-win-win situation - base game gets bigger, they get to gauge interest in the expansion, and you, the pledgee, gets (essentially what amounts to) the expansion for free !

**Project Eternity is an isometric, party-based RPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment.
This is the first time anything on Kickstarter has gotten this reaction from me.
The goal of 1.1M has been reached in only around 27 hours. Stretch goals have been added.
An interesting article from August where Chris Avellone talks about what the new RPG might look like. (Thanks gamezMk for the link)
