The thing is, the people who are most likely to pre-order the game are people who liked (and therefore already own) the original. So this bonus resulted in a lot of people having an extra copy of a game they already own, resulting in a lot of giveaways.

This just happened to me:
If you buy Deponia 3 as a gift, then from your inventory "add it to your steam library", it adds part 2 to your library too, and you get a copy of part 2 in you inventory!

I have searched online to see if Chaos on Deponia was part of a big sale or a bundle but can't seem to find anything. Only thing I saw was that you get a free copy when you pre-order the third game in the series. Could that be the source for all of these giveaways for Chaos on Deponia?
