I recently bought the first two Bioshock games for $10 during the summer sale. I completed the first one, and now I wanna move on to the second. But the game crashes with an error. I've Googled solutions, but I couldn't find any that worked. The crash happens around the same time. (After you get the rivet gun.) I got past that ONCE, but it still crashed. I'm about ready to give up, but I'd really like to continue with the Bioshock trilogy.

It's probably a corrupted install.

Reinstall the game. If that doesn't get it working, reinstall steam.

That fix sounds intensive, but it's likely to fix the problem. I'd rather spend an hour or two on a fix that I'm very confident about than a fix that simply won't work.

I've seen others say that didn't work for them. But I guess I'll give it a shot. It's worth a try.

Did you try validating?

Yeah. All that really did was reinstall the old Games for Windows Live, so it had to update it again. It still crashed after that.

This is a major problem. It took me a while to get my Bioshock 2 to work. I believe this is what worked for me though it took some tinkering. It's the only bookmark I have on the issue, so I'm assuming this is how I fixed it.

God, that's a lot of work... I'll definitely try it though. Thanks man. I'll let you know if it works. :)
EDIT: It worked! Thank you so much!

yes, the game is broken as fuck... also GFWL... god, that thing is the worst thing that happend to gaming since all the generic COD clones...
anyway, i solved my problem adding "-dx9" as a command line, that forces the game to run in DirectX9... is not the best, but is the easy way, without patching, and re-installing...
to do the thing that i just tell you, you have to:
go to your game library>right click on the bioshock game>properties>launch option
and in that new window that will pop-up you write -dx9, then save, and launch the game...

There is nothing wrong with gfwl, the only issue is the user behind your monitor

I saw this suggestion, but several people said it didn't work for them. I just reinstalled before I went to bed, and just now got on the computer. I'll try it on top of the fresh install.
As fro GFWL... Oh my god, I can't stand that shit. It wouldn't be so bad if all the names I try weren't taken... <.<
I made an account when I first played Section 8: Prejudice. I despise it. It's just another way to get you sucked into the grasp of Microsoft. One step closer for PC to become Xbox One.

Yep, these game crashes are all about GWFL. I couldn't even launch the game till I installed it and nowhere on Steam it's said that GFWL is required.
