Oh, I love only online games that you have to buy for full price. Servers shut down and even though you bought the game, you are done.
I wish devs just published dedicated servers so that community can keep it alive if they want. Or remove the online requirement.
But as long as people buy the game and don't care that it is only for some time, then I guess I am a minority.

That's what I like about NCSOFT btw.. I can still play lineage 2 in countless private servers because they allowed use of the game files. Awesome in a way.. + official is still up and running (thought I never play there)

Private servers usually dont use any game code. You get the game files, they make the server, which is basically fresh code written to emulate the old code. That
s why so many games like Age of Empires Online, Ragnarok Online, World of Warcraft, etc have private servers.
As long as they dont make money, they are usually relatively safe. When they start charging money and selling stuff, that
s when it turns a bit grey as they usually make their own cosmetics to sell.

Can you recommend to play the game for the campaign? I bought the game in a discount not too long ago, and I was wondering if it was worth it.

Yes it is, it's pretty corny and generic, but it's fun.

Campaign was very campy and fun.
Basically the best racing game campaign I Have ever played mainly because you can play the whole thing in co op except certain missions. Got it twice on different accounts to play with different friends. Had a blast both times. Gonna cherish those memories.
Just don`t expect any good car physics. They are really bad when you hit anything on the road.

Bad news. TBH I'm amazed they kept it going for as long as they did though. 9+ years for an online-only Ubisoft game is kind of incredible. I watched an essay of the game years ago that confidently predicted it wouldn't live much past 2019-2020.
I've needed some incentive to finally play it, and if this isn't that incentive, then I don't know what is. Glad I only payed $5.
Thanks for the heads-up, damianea103.

There's an option to hide, I don't know if that's enough for you.

Some community members are trying to enable the offline mode. May or may not ever work but good to know in case someone capable of contributing finds out about it.
But yeah, I'm one of those who got it free from Uplay years back. It wasn't a top priority, still isn't, but maybe over the Christmas holidays I'll give it a spin.

It's funny how it's always the players that have to fix the product they paid for. I hope they manage to get it working.

I hope it works. I know the game is old and all that but tbh, I have been playing TC2 for a couple of months and I have been going at it pretty much solo, if not for the occasional Summit, so it's a shame that games that can be played perfectly fine in single player are shut down when the multiplayer goes.

Yeah we may see. Many of these things never work out but the fact there is an existing basis for it is a good start.
Do continue to enjoy The Crew 2 though since I assume it was made in a similar way so will probably have the same issue a few years from now (but by then you'll probably be done).
I'm not against online components of games, but I also dislike when a perfectly good single player gets lost to the ether because of something like this. It's starting to become a rolling issue as games from the 2010s are at risk of similar time limits. And it's kind of a headache to have to wonder if every single player game I have has a hidden time limit due to a login system.

Heh I'm pretty much done with the Crew 2. 100% everything and now I'm just looting parts to maximize my summit races and get platinum when there are cars rewards (I don't usually bother otherwise but I've been doing decent runs)
Totally agree on the singlemultiplayer games that just kill perfectly good single player games. The fact that a lot of people got the game for free doesn't change the fact some of us paid for it and the game is absolutely playable in perpetuity. Ubisoft is big on that because they are banking on long franchises and they'd rather people get the new games, however pricey and flawed they may be instead of being able to play the older games.
Happy Cake Day btw. You're the second person who messaged me today and you both have cake days. You're cakeday twin with Icaio

Nice. Then you're all good to go. Keep having fun while you can. I know it has a few more years if it follows the same pattern. Probably 2028. Or does that one have an offline mode that you have seen?
Yeah I can understand the business angle. I'd want more people to buy my new games as well so I can keep making money. But I'd also hope to be proud of my past games. I know licensing complicates things, but as you mentioned, this has kind of been an Ubisoft thing because I still recall the big issue with decommissioning Assassin's Creed DLC last year and that's their own content. I keep hoping these were just the dark ages and they've planned better in future games.
Thanks for the cake day wishes. That's a surprising coincidence.

they can't take away what you bought, however, they can prevent access of what you bought. :D

I wish players stopped buying games with DRM, offline or online. Just saddens me that companies get away with this. It should be illegal, but until then the only way to stop this, is to vote with your wallet.
Not to mention it is incredibly against archival. Every game should be available for generations to come, each brings their own vision. I for one like to play old school games, and after watching countless developer interviews it is evident they were all inspired by another game at some point in their lives. All these games will be old school one day, with many nowhere to be seen 😥
Not all of them can be like DOOM, nonetheless they can all have a place in history.
Keep in mind, game streaming like MS Game Pass is not much different than this. You don't own the games.

I didn\t notice this statement until yesterday. I've jumped on the game after completing Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012). It's a shame this game will be completely unplayable. I spent £10 to get it with all the DLC's too, in June 2023 and now I feel I'll never get a chance to play it, so best at least try to beat the main Campaign.

Bump.
I got it free from uplay (looks it up...... in 2016)
Never played it. Always meant to. Played about 4 hrs tonight. This is pretty good. I should have played it along time ago.
I only sorta know what I'm doing. But I'm having fun doing missions and random events. I'll keep playing.

All editions and additional content for The Crew are no longer available for purchase as of today.
The game will remain playable until March 31st, 2024, for all The Crew owners. After this date, the game servers will shut down, which means the game will not be accessible anymore, as the game is online-only.
The game was given away for free a few years back through uPlay, if you own it i recommend giving it a try before the servers are gone, it's pretty fun.
