- is the drop in min FPS of 11 in the first run something bad?
Well, it's not good but it doesn't necessarily mean anythings wrong. Instead of just benching I'd be inclined to get something to montior your clocks/memory/usage as you play games, see where the problem is. In an ideal world you might just need to undervolt it, set a fan curve that works well with where you are (hot room, bad case airflow, whatever). If that doesn't help enough you can always pull back the clocks 100mhz and see what difference that makes to both performance and heat, retail cards are pitched so inefficently nowadays you can generally get good mileage of of either/both undervolting, knocking the clocks down a little while seeing no noticable difference in performance. Biggest flag with that era of cards can be used ones having been mined with and the memory being shot to fuck, if that's where the problem is you really need to know so you can get shot as it's not something that will get any better.
GL with it.

My Rig:
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor
ASRock B550M PG RIPTIDE Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
Asus TUF GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
I built this earlier this year, first solo build I'm no expert but mine runs around 85-90F on gpu(w/ load 130f-150f depending on what im playing) and my cpu with no real load stays around 100F and when im playing it will go up to around 150F. I have a total of 10 fans and a water cooler and run them at 90%. Ive read online that it will only cause damage or long term damage if you are playing for extended periods over 180F. My friend that helped me build my first pc before this one told me I should be fine but I too want to see if I can make it run any coooler.

Did you enable xmp on your ram? might help with frames.

oh Lord, what a beast! Yeah you might have troble cooling that, I've heard 4090s are very toasty. good luck with that!
it will only cause damage or long term damage if you are playing for extended periods over 180F
but playing over extened periods of time is what I do!

Bump, and thanks for the GA!
Unfortunately I can't help you with your problem, I actually have never built a PC myself, and I've been on laptop PC's for 15 years now. Actually I need to buy a new one, since every app tells me its ceasing support for my ancient system by the end of the years lol

I am not sure if I should buy a gaming laptop ever again. I think those are very loud. Or is it just mine? I own the XMG Neo 15.

Congratulations!. Enjoy the glorious moment of having a new setup. And enjoy it!
I would recommend CyberPunk 2077 if you want to play around with your settings and go wild.
I wouldn't worry about the FPS drop, since that may be a software problem with the game. Try other games just in case..
About the fan speed, I would try to download some software to check temperatures, like GPUZ

Hi!
Due to recent events I had to do some changes to my gaming rig and in the process of deliberate decision making i.e. I've had a few beers, it's a middle of the night and I've spent past few hoyrs browsing online shops and second hand marketplaces I've arrived at building a mostly brand new PC!
The long and short of it is I had to replace my mobo. Since keeping my old-ass socket CPU was pain in the male donkey I also went with a new one. The new CPU + mobo combo required new RAM I'm DDR5 now, baby!!!. And at the last minute I realised my PSU wouldn't handle the new board. I threw 1TB NVMe SSD to the mix just for the sake of it and now here I am. My wallet bleeds...
Anywho now it's your chances to partake in this frabjous day as I've prepared a little Ouroboros train just to hurt my sad wallet a little more! And there's a little extra Dredge for my 💙
On top of that I'd like to ask y'all what'd you recommend I go ahead and blast on my new creation to fully enjoy all the glorious FPS I can achieve now? You don't have to limit your suggestions to my library, I might as well run my financial situation to the ground since I'm at it...
A second question concerns my performance. I haven't done much testing yet, but I did run Heaven a couple o' times results below and I have my concerns. 1. is the drop in min FPS of 11 in the first run something bad? 2. What about the termals? the CPU stays mostly under 70C but the GPU went right over 80 in both tests, spending most time around 85 with fans going all crazy and occasionally going almost to 90C with fans hitting I believe 100%. Is this expected bahaviour? NGL it's my first time with that class of hardware. I've built a bunch of PCs in the past but typically more low-end and or old systems. This is like the closest to "current-gen" as I've ever been. Is there any way to get those temps and fan speeds down?
man, making trains is so tedious...
If nothing went wrong train's lvl2+ running till the end of the month.
