Hey guys.

Whenever i try to start up my computer with my gpu, all fans spin up to full speed, but there is no video output and the diagnostic stick shows F.F.
I am currently using the onboard graphics, which work. but had the same problem once. The problem did not occur again after a restart.
I don't know, whether the motherboard is the source of the problem and would appreciate any help.

My specs:
OS: Win 7
Mobo: M3N WS
CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9750
GPU: Geforce 9800 GTX / Geforce 8200 onboard grapics card
PSU: BQT E5-500W

I would love to see pics of a AM2+ chip mounted in a socket 1155 motherboard. That would be golden.

And just for reference, FB-FF are "Reserved for future AMI error codes". One thread on the ASUS website suggests FF is due to an unrecognized CPU. Go figure. ^^

  • wonders how onboard graphics are working... what the pins look like on the 9750 after being forced into Intel socket... if OP is trolling... why I replied to this thread... also, way to go the extra step looking up the error code... +1 for Korrd : )

Intel Core2 Extreme X9750 for the CPU maybe? FF code = CPU is not inserted properly, F.F. code = CPU is not recognised.

Actually, 1155 is an LGA socket--the pins are on the board. I'm not entirely sure how well the AM2+ would fit into the socket, but the pins could all potentially miss each other and the CPU just sit loose in the socket.

Now I'm curious. :P

Hmm. The manual for that motherboard doesn't even list "F.F." as an available check code. I'd still run with the CPU possibility, though, and try reseating both it and your RAM, then resetting your CMOS (via the CLRTC jumper between the floppy and front panel connectors (with power off, move the jumper over, wait 5 seconds, then move it back)).

Idk, maybe the DVI port on your gpu is broken.

I had this issue when i first moved form onbord to addin(pcie) and you need to switch the settings in bios to use the pci**** card you have.

You would need to set the BIOS to use the new card. This is a pretty common issue when installing a new card to a computer that already has an in-built graphics.

The GPU was running fine on this system for years.

Your Psu is about the minimum for that graphics card, add to that the age of the psu.. you computer could use the help of higher output psu.

just a guess...

I don't think so, the 9800 GTX eats up to 140 Watts, when on 100%.

Out of curiosity, do the fans remain at full speed?
