They refused to do that years ago, moving to pure Steam isn't likely to change their mind. Just get a PS3 and grab Resident Evil 5 Gold there. I did. :P

More likely they just ported the XBox achievements over, and since the game allows you to buy the DLCs, they are listed even when you don't have them. They refused to do the extra work required to make the PC port allow DLCs at the time, and redoing online code isn't likely going to have them redo everything else.

It would be like Arkham Asylum achievements when they showed up. The game hasn't had updates and so it won't tell Steam to trigger them.

Back when it was being updated, silly.
It was a month or two with them sitting there unable to be obtained without SAM. Then the update was released and they could all be earned.

Not bloody likely. It was asked for years ago, but the version released by the porting company didn't support it and they would need to redo a fair chunk of the game, so it was decided that it wouldn't happen. While moving to Steam based online might need some extra work, it wouldn't be to the same amount that Gold would require. I think it is more likely just a bug.

Colour me surprised then, at the news that Capcom would actually work on one of their old games now after refusing it years ago. Pity they refuse to do anything for Operation Raccoon City, I'd like GfWL removed from that just so people would play with me.

In case it was still doubt full.
Looks like it's getting added as DLC, so it's likely paid.
I doubt they'll give it free for previous, since it wasn't available on Windows Live platform like Minerva's Den.

According to this it's coming in April.

Woo-hoo! Gold Edition is confirmed!
It was listed in the Steam Store yesterday but has been removed today due to Microsoft dragging its heels with the permission to remove GfWL. As the Steam Store description stated yesterday, the upgrade will not be free (as is fair and to be expected), but current owners can buy the DLC bundle to upgrade to the Gold Edition.
Here's a snapshot of the Store page yesterday for proof.

I just started playing Resident Evil 5 tonight, and after getting it to run in DX10 (what a pain) it seems achievements don't trigger. Is this a GFWL issue? The Windows achievements pop, but not the Steam ones.
Also, all achievements are listed, as in the DLC exclusive achievements from the Gold Edition. Is this a glitch or are they bringing the Gold Edition content all these years later?
Well it's more than confirmed that the Gold Edition is coming to Steam. In fact, I'm sure some of you saw the description in the Steam Store's page yesterday. No? Well, proof.
Today it's back to the standard "From the ashes..." Looks like Microsoft is holding up the show by not fully signing over the GfWL removal. It's coming though, and soon.
