Thanks, I've tried it for a while on Windows but I couldn't get into it.

Looks cool, but I forgot to mention that I would prefer a freeware title unless I'm going to continue to play it on Windows. I don't think I would do that with Conquest :-)

I've actually beaten Jamestown. I think I'll try OpenTyrian, thanks.

I'm not a fan of Braid but I've heard a lot of great things about Bastion. I don't think I'm gonna buy it now though.

Oh it looks awesome. It reminds me of old Ultima games and Spiderweb RPGs. I'll definetely try it :-)

Install desura and look up some games? It has lots of indie games on there, pretty sure you'll find a lot of games that you'll be able to run.

Yeah, but there are a lot of them and I prefer a good freeware title just for a few days.

What's wrong with Linux Mint? Just customize it and install whatever desktop environment you want. Also, Revenge of the Titans and Closure can be added to the list.

What's wrong? A lot of little things + a few days of dealing with different OSes + just running relatively slow compared to Win XP. I'm using Gnome Shell.

I normally use Arch Linux and Ubuntu, with GNOME-Shell. It's probably sluggish because Windows XP is >10 years old, so has low requirements for today's computers. GNOME-Shell is 3D-accelerated, it's a little heavier than XP. If you want something faster, maybe try XFCE or LXDE, which keep to the Windows XP style with a panel for windows and a conventional menu system, etc.

The Book of unwritten tales looks nice but I don't have 20 eur to spend right now :-/

Oh, it's awesome but gets boring in single player.

I might try Trine 2 but I'm not sure if it will run smoothly on my PC.

I enjoyed a lot Braid, Dungeons of Dredmor, LIMBO and Trine 1 & 2 (the first is not yet on Steam for Linux), maybe give them another chance. I would recommend you Super Meat Boy and Bastion. The second one is a masterpiece, I hope you will like it.
By the way, there are a lot of titles which are remarkable, like The Journey Down (point-and-click adventure), Rochard (I haven't finished it yet) and Waking Mars (same here, but maybe it's not good as the previous titles). Let me know if my suggestions have been useful :)
Edit: I have forgotten to mention SPAZ, that is one of my favourite games in its genre.

Like I've said before I might try Trine 2. Dungeons of Dredmor is cool but its kinda pointless and gets boring really fast.
Is The Journey Down as good as classic point & click games? If so I'll definetly buy it.

So, I'm stuck with my old PC (PIV 2,8GHz, 1GB RAM, Radeon HD3450 512MB) and after a few days of trying to restore a broken WinXp partition I've finally said "fuck it!" and I've installed Linux Mint. It's awfull, I don't know why it's the most popular distro right now but I've spent some time making it usable so I don't want to try a different one.
I have to use it for ~3-4 days so it will be nice to find a game or two. On Steam I have 37 linux games but I'm either not interested in them or they won't run smoothly on my PC. There are a lot of other non-steam games but I don't have time to check and try them all so I'm looking for suggestions.
Any genre, single player.
