There was just a thread posted about a group for people playing their won games, but it got closed due to the group getting the required amount of members. The discussion was still interesting, but it was missing a poll, so here it is. We can continue the discussion here as well.

Do you play the games you win here on Steamgifts? Do you enter giveaways only for games you know you want to play, a little of everything, or even games you know you won't play?

We were discussing the case where people don't play their wins, not only because of backlog, but entering for/winning games they know they won't play. From what I've seen some users here do it for either card farming and/or Library +1. Some people feel that they are "robbed" from games they would have played by these users. What's your opinion? Are you one of those who enter/win games you'll never play? What's the deal with that? I'm curious.

I only enter for games I know I want to play. Up until recently my statistics were quite good for being a fairly new user here: I had played (completed single player campaign) 20% of my wins, and had gametime in a total of 40% of my wins, and I was getting closer to 40% completed. Recent good luck has added more games to my backlog and made the numbers a bit worse (now I'm maybe at 15% completed, 30% with gametime), but I'll have lots of fun playing my wins during the holidays and next year. I will play all my wins with time.

Do you play/plan to play all the games you win/enter giveaways for? In this case play = complete single player campaign or play a significant amount of hours in endless/online games. Play 1-2 hours in games much longer than that = Try.

Well, the poll options are quite detailed xD

I've played most of my wins and will play the rest as soon as I have the time.

I'm not much for the potato option, and tried to cover the options that we are likely to see among some users here. Probably still missed something :D

I think that's the longest poll question I've ever seen

I only enter for games I know I want to play. I've played some of my wins and will play the rest as soon as I have the time.

Picked that one, but in my case "some" is a pretty small number. Damn backlog ;_;

Yeah, same here. And with the recent AAA game releases, I guess it will be a while before I will play anything in my backlog...

I normally enter wishlisted games so I will play them at some point! Out of my 10 wins, I've completed one game, half way through another, played a little of one and hope to put many hours into it and 100% it, one I need to start since I won it 1 week ago, one crashed when I first played it so I need to wait for a better update and the others... I helped to get CV/or noone entered xD

I was thinking about doing more options for those of you who haven't won anything yet, but settled for just the "I haven't won anything yet" option, since I thought that the discussion would be about if people were playing their wins or not, like the previous one ended up being.

Good games I only enter if I intend to play them (aka wishlist games), but I also enter for bad games if they have trading cards just for the trading cards.. if I notice people in the comments who really want those games though, I don't enter.. should I feel bad about this behavior? :-o

...depends on how bad the games are - maybe a little? ;)
I think there's almost always someone who would enjoy a game. Of course, if it's in a group where everyone has a 100+ game backlog and no one is that likely to play that particular bad game, there isn't much "damage" done.

Good thing that you leave it for the people who really want it :)

I've been trying (note the 'trying' part) to play games in order as i have won them, its a good way of choosing what to play, let the SG RNG choose the game, i only enter for things i know i will play so its not too bad, so far i've 100% most of the games i've played from the won ones and i hope to keep on it, playing through talos at the moment and the whole star challenges are giving me a headache :D

ninja edit: oh yeah, kinda forgot to add that i am a bit of an achievement whore so it takes a while to progress through the backlog depending on the game

Cool. I was thinking about playing my wins in the order I won them, but sometimes I'm in the mood for a shorter platformer instead of a long strategy game I will sink countless hours in during way too late nights (those games are better when I'm on vacation and don't have to get up at a certain time :D), so I never went for that. Maybe I'll do something related to the time I won them - maybe not have games unplayed for longer than a year after I won them.

yea thats the main reason i decided that unless something amazing comes my way i'll try to play them in order so that the game doesn't sit unplayed for ages, obviously if its something like a strategy game i'll probably play 2-3 at the same time so that you can switch depending on the mood

I only enter for the ones I want to play and will play the games I win sooner or later.

As for people who win my giveaways, I don't keep track on who ends up playing the games. What gets me more is the people who enter the giveaways and don't even activate the games after winning, just regift/trade/sell/whatever them away. That's what has been bumming me out lately. Maybe I should up the level requirement on my giveaways to 5, maybe there's more honest people on that level.

I've noticed the same thing, with the low level giveaways I've done there have been problems, but they decrease a lot when the levels are increased and/or when sticking to whitelist/small groups.

It could also be worth doing your giveaways with the new SGtools filter that you can set up so only users who activated all their won games get access to the giveaways:

Honestly, I used to enter any interesting giveaway and tried to enter as much small giveaways as possible, so after I won a few games I knew I dont want to to play, I decided to enter mostly my wishlist, even if that means I will sometimes have lots of unspent points. I will be much happier when I see the "you have won a gift" screen and realize that I won fallout 4, then to see that screen more ofter, get happy and then be sad because I won a crappy game

The thing I love about the GAs is that I have found out about many interesting games that I would like to give a try. I enter for games I have at least a little interest in (though admittedly I should make my threshold of interest a little higher) and I actually do intend to play. Personally, I'm more about the achievements than the cards so that's often a deciding factor.

I fully intend to play my recent wins (plus much of my additional backlog) in the coming weeks. I have been getting ready for some travel but once I'm settled in I'll have nothing but free time for the better part of a month to play my backlog. My intention is to play at least half the games in my library and the finish/100% at least half of that (so, you know, finish at least a quarter of my games) The time frame I have in mind is to accomplish this in about 3 or 4 months. I guess I'll see where I am at the end of March :P

I'm entering only into games that I want, and recently managed to beat pretty much all my wins :D

I haven't played in 10 - 5 are on "I will play" list and sadly 5 are on "maybe I will play if I will have too much time" list (there are few games - like AC:1 - which I wanted to play when I joined the site more than 2 years ago, but now I'm not interested in them anymore).

Even bundled games can make someone who wants to play them really happy - in last month I had one winner who won something wishlisted on his birthday and one who was happy, because game had subtitles in both his native language and english, so he will be able to learn it while playing. So I don't really "like" people who enters to only have +1 to steam or farm cards (esp if they already have few thousands games on steam).

I intend to play (or at least try) all my wins. There don't seem to be enough hours per day to get around that though.
So new year's resolution is to not enter GAs unless they are on my wishlist, and to not buy bundles unless they have wishlisted items.
That should help keep the backlog from growing too much.
(Although XCOM 2 will probably make sure it won't be shrinking for a while either, when that comes out ...)

I only enter for games I am actually interested in. But as I do have a life (and SG is addicting as hell) I don't play as much as I used to. I'll play them all - each and every win as well as each and every game in my library - sooner or later.

I used to enter all group giveaways because I didn't want to waste my point unused. I used to spend all of it and prevented it to reach 300. Until I won a non-game, but a documentary video which I regret joined it. I watched it though, and it contains NSFW thing -_-
Since then, I only entered for the game I want to play and sometimes featured giveaways.
Well, because of it I won Shadow of Mordor which turned out to be a great game. I entered the giveaway without knowing the game at all.
It is my top priority of games I have to finish. If I was as picky as I am right now, I guess I still don't even know about Shadow of Mordor.

Some featured giveaway I won still untouched though, especially those without cards. I guess I have to take a look about it and maybe write a review.

What a vote! It's nice to see detailed options.
I voted to "I enter for games I know I won't play (library +1 and/or card farming), but I've played some of the the good games I've won."

I tend to manage my wishlist very tight, either favorite franchise or localized ones or games I already have in other platform to remind me to buy someday. The reason is to prevent my friends on Steam from gifting to me(it was some burden to me because I tend to repay their good will, it has no end only remains empty wallet, hahaha) and I don't like Steam's spam mails. So it does not have many indie games nor early access. Because of real life, my backlog becomes longer and longer nowadays. :(
As a level 7 member, I haven't played even all my giveaways through yet!
Anyway, I have enjoyed giveaway games to people who may(may not) want until now, so I shamelessly enter games I know I may not play though I try to play some of them.

It's hard to know for a fact you'll like a game with out playing it. I've always thought I'd like something, or at least find some humor in it's awfulness in some cases. Pretty sure I've played everything I've won, at least a little. I know I've not played all the games I actually paid for though lol

I only enter for games I want to play, mostly from my whitelist and the rest are games that I didn't know before but I find them interesting. The "problem" is I already have a huge backlog and maybe it's not realistic to think that I'll be able to play all the games I have on my library, but I want to believe I'll be able!
Anyway, my intention is to play every game I've won here although I don't know when I will! =)

At first I entered for everything, and got a few games I didn't really intend to win, and a couple of bad ones (that's my fault / noone's) - but then I realized that I really should enter for games I WANT to play, or at least try - since then I spend much more time with 300 points than not. I plan to play the vast, vast majority of my library (So far I found like 3-4 terrible games and a few that I couldn't get to work, or was just way too boring - but I plan to play every single one)

Well, the intetion is there...
Hmm, out of 57 games I won:
Completed: 5 = 9% (ouch)
Completed previously off steam (and wanted to have them on steam as well): 4 = 7%
Tried but didn't like (won't play again): 5 = 9%
Played (more than just tried, but didn't finish, either on the backlog or a game with no real ending): 7 = 12%
Tried (and added to backlog): 11 = 19%
Yet to try: 25 = 44% (Q_Q)
