I haven't seen such a wall of text since the Berlin Wall fell :x
(Although I stopped reading at "A few days ago someone created a discussion here to present his new website where you can mine cryptocurrency for him", so I guess it was just a brick of text.)

Mining via a browser is a terrible idea in general. Unless you're a rogue webmaster who wants to profit on the back of visitors (like some big, well-known torrent website has reportedly been doing lately).
If you want to mine for yourself, do it via proper mining software (JavaScript thingies are not proper mining software): it will mine faster and you'll remain in control.

Yeh I know although it's his problem if it doesn't work. We did what is requested and it's understandable if his idea didn't work. Personally I can accept the fact that I won't get anything BUT the big issue here is that he's letting people still hope and mining which is very very bad. Not to mention that it's also illegal and it should stop.

Sounds like he should just shut the site down (and if he wants to apologize put up a letter) rather than keep it live for people to continue to use it.
I remember seeing the thread about the site, but I never explored it.
Thanks for the warning though and hope those still mining sees this.

Obviously a scammer won't stop scamming as long as it's profitable.
But on the off-chance that he's legit sorry it didn't work out and don't want to get even worse reputation he should shut it down.
The "should" in my post was obviously meant as in it's the right thing to do, not the thing he's going to do.

" to present his new website where you can mine cryptocurrency for him with your browser"
That sounds like a scam from the get-go

The cost in order to get a game on the website's launch was pretty low actually. The miner was set to just 1 core at 50% speed earning 1 coin per minute. So you could "buy" for example Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide for 1000 coins by using 15% of a midrange cpu for about 17 hours. You could easily try and see if it's legit or not.

To be honest, i mined for him even when cg removed the post which i shouldn't have. The mining app got blocked when i first ran it, i had to exclude it from my antivirus .. its named as coinhive.min.js .. after running overnight, next day i realized it attempted to install another miner which my antivirus blocked - https://imgur.com/a/bXV6w as soon as i got that , i immediately stopped mining .. i totally agree if he is putting a hold on the project, he should as well announce it with clear message and remove the miner temporarily till he continue it later.. i can tell many people are still mining and hoping for a prize as the current announcement isn't clear at all. Well, lesson learned .
Make sure you clear your browser cache, cookies of the site and run a system drive scan to make sure.

It's the same miner every site uses these days. 99% false positive and the AV doesn't like this java script because it uses cpu. As long as you are aware of what you're doing it's quite safe for your system and "virus free".
His discussion also was closed for advertising not anything else. I'm not trying to defend him I just want to be fair because everyone has rights. Let's focus on how is he acting right now by not taking down his website.

I dont have anything against him, steamgifts admin mentioned in his thread that he won't make much comparing to the games that he is giving away, he mentioned something like the miner has to run at full power for weeks before he make a buck.
The thing that got me worried is , when a user asked him if he is mining bitcoin he said he is mining some other coin, but then my antivirus caught a second script and blocked it from installing that bitcoinminer.sx, even when his miner script ''coinhive.min.js'' is already running. If this second script is a part of his miner, then it should have had ran when i started the miner right ? but it attempted to run when i left my pc with his miner running overnight.
Again, i am not trying to take his website down .. i learned my lesson and i will stay away from this but this is just a warning cause i believe there's another miner script that attempts to install on your chrome cache and run whenever you use your browser.

Hey guys. I hope this will not be considered as a "call out" because the community must know about some things so I'll do my best not to link or reffer anyone other than just the website's title so whoever is involved will understand what I'm talking about and will be warned.
A few days ago someone created a discussion here to present his new website where you can mine cryptocurrency for him with your browser and in return you can earn coins to order the game you want from the available list. In the beginning I found his idea amazing so I went to the website and started mining immediately. When I reached the required amount of coins I posted my "order" to the comment section like everyone.
I was waiting for over a week and nothing happened. I sent an email to him asking for an update with no luck. In the meantime more people started asking why their comments are awaiting moderation and when they are going to receive their games. Same thing happened also on his Steam profile without any response. Ιndicatively:
Eventually he updated his website by posting these 2 messages on the front page and the "order section":
As you can see he doesn't mention anywhere that the website is going down indefinitively (wait for the upcoming conversation) and that people should stop mining and don't expect rewards. Instead he clearly says that a new order system is priority and even right now the miner is still there and so is the order section. He's implying that if someone wants, he can continue mining in order to stack coins for future orders.
After all this I wanted to find a way to contact him and I managed to do it in a previous giveaway of him here on SG. As you'll see he's not able to deliver what he promised anymore but he's not clarifying this in his website, he's letting people hope and still mining. The conversation ended with him blacklisting me because I didn't like his reply at the end where, like he said, whatever we did was nothing to him while he was the one who set the rules this way.
I think I was pretty kind to him until the end while I was the one who got scammed because I was mining a lot for days (even if it's nothing for him from one person) and didn't get anything in return. Also, that I didn't ask for a special treatment but just an update is the proof that he tried to add me on Steam after he mentioned not to ask for an exception and I ignored his request. If I had to guess he was trying to make me stop exposing him by sending me a game I want.
Here's the conversation:
As you can see my intent was to end it nicely much sooner until this reply which triggered me so badly. The upcoming comment is edited with the PS after his Steam friend request.
That's the story guys. So if you still mining and hope you'll get a reward there just stop wasting your time. He won't deliver anything and now you know it. Peace. <3
