It limits the number of entries for a giveaway so people who are fortunate enough to know the answers have greater chances of winning. And yes, they're still "puzzles."

puz·zle [puhz-uhl] Show IPA noun, verb, puz·zled, puz·zling.
noun
1.
a toy, problem, or other contrivance designed to amuse by presenting difficulties to be solved by ingenuity or patient effort.
I consider that puzzles here all fall into that category.

There are certainly some that can be legitimately called puzzles under your definition, while others might be more accurately described as quizzes, but when someone's being generous enough to give away a game I generally don't stop to argue semantics with them.

your complaint is really more that some makers of puzzles sucked. nobody supervises their quality you know.

puzzles?
A puzzle is a problem or enigma that tests the ingenuity of the solver. In a basic puzzle, one is intended to put together pieces in a logical way in order to come up with the desired solution.
deff. taken from : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puzzle
So from my perspective a puzzle is when you give someone something to put together.
But most of what I have read from the forum topics here are things where the makers of the so called "puzzles" tell you to look for things that they have hidden or ask you questions that are native to the maker personally or things he considers important to him. This then turns into treasure hunts, "mind reading" attempts, anticipating and guessing.
I just don't see how you can still call something a puzzle while you never actually give someone all the pieces nor the instructions.
IF I where to give you 4 triangles and told you to make me a square that would be a puzzle.
But IF I where to give you two letters B and D and asked you which song was I thinking off... I don't see how is that a "puzzle".
I am not trying to call out people, or start a flame war, or turn this into "who's got the higher IQ" contest I am just asking is there a way to make puzzles and name the rest that are now named "puzzles" something more adequate.
