I was wondering if we'll see one for the end of December, but that seems odd to have a sale essentially all month of December split into halves. Maybe they're just trying to be well ahead of Steam again like the Fall Sale.
Which just ended with Steam. It's seriously one major sale into another. Must. Lock. Coffers.

It's kind of true. They're so frequent anymore. Maybe it's just me getting older, but they seem more and more like simply discounted prices than big "events". And it's not even Steam or GOG's fault. With so many other sites competing for business (GMG, Humble Store, indiegala store, Amazon, etc) there are endless sales all the time. It's spoiled us into thinking games simply have to be -75% or more before we'll even consider a purchase. That and the endless bundles spoil us with tons of games as well. :)

That's an incorrect assessment.
In the past, games steadily reduced in retail price over time, until you could pick them up reliably for $10 or less.
Now, retail price doesn't (usually) change, but discount increases.
It's a different mechanic, is all.
What's weird is how so many games get heavily discounted so soon after release- that's something I never saw too much of in the past.
Besides, the developers/publishers are going to be the ones with final say on sales, so it's not really the distributor's faults.
Bundles, though, yeah. They really shifted game purchasing dynamics in the consumer's favor- and in Steam's.

I agree with what you're saying, but I believe we may be focusing on different points. :)
What I meant to place emphasis on is the fact that sales are losing excitement due to the fact that they're not rare anymore. Once upon a time there was really only Steam for the digital marketplace. Sales were really quarterly with the major sales coming at Summer and Winter. These were quite a big deal because everyone wanted to see games they had been waiting for go on sale and see what they could get. There were also games and bonuses to keep the community active outside of buying cheap games.
Now we have sales every week from many different sources. While Summer and Winter may have better prices, we now have all the jokes and comments about "Not another sale! I'm not ready!" (see my comment above :)) because they really do just keep coming.
But you're correct. Retail prices stay high almost indefinitely. Probably because they're discounted so many times throughout the year that it's almost the same as a cheaper retail price. :p

I agree. It's always been my goal to just be a happy person and never offend, so when I see that I may have done that to someone I truly want to apologize. While I agree it's easier if the offense is known, no one needs to explain him or herself and the last thing I want to do is create any additional issues. I edited that out as I hope he had a chance to see I'm sorry. :)

This means I can give money to my cousin in Russia and he buys me Witcher 3? Since it's DRM free I will be getting the exact same product as I understand, and he can gift it to me too apparently
On Steam I have region locks, but I haven't them on GoG so why would I even bother buying from EU/US store then?
Comment has been collapsed.
Its like that on steam aswell. Regional pricing it is like kleid said, for why I think I heard there are a ton of pirates in russia and the normal dollar pricing is so expensive for them. Not 100% of my information but thats what I know.

Also, they are a lot cheaper here in Brazil too. With a salary of 1500 BRL you can live fine in a medium city. Thats, in todays conversion, 387,86 USD. Just imagine we having to pay the full $ or euro.

Cost three times that in most of the US just to live functionally, and that's often just housing and utilities. :'P
So prices for games are, what, reduced to a fifth or so there?
:checks:
Ooch, only about half. :X
Regional pricing is weird.. *_*
Then again, most people in the US are severely underpaid, so perhaps that's part of the issue :/

Region pricing is not so much set based on what people can pay, but what they expect the most profitable price point to be at. And there is a lot of "tradition" to it as well. "Games used to cost this much, so they still do (otherwise people will get upset and buy less)", which is why Norway of all places have relatively low game prices, comparatively (Norway is not exactly known for its low standard of living and poor population).

The previous sale cleaned me out as I largely completed my collection of D&D related games, PLANESCAPE: TORMENT et al

They accept Paypal and also credit and debit cards. What do you use to buy stuff from other sites?

I am pretty sure I paid with a Non-US credit card before.

Me neither, they wont take my card for some reason. And Im in US. :(

They seem to be on par with similar e-tailers.
Also if their prices are higher in soem regions they compensate with extra games.
also lol when they say "$3" "and it's worth $9.99 to $34.99".. yea sure..
Don't know what you mean by that.
Comment has been collapsed.
i mean that these $9.99 and $34.99 are totally arbitrary. i can put a shit game for sale at 10 000€ and then make a "sale" and say "oh hey it's only 1000€ now, what a deal, it's worth 10 000€ !". all in all it's just copy/pasted datas behind artificial fences

That one seem to be true (as have it been in their previous sales of this type). There is a list of included games that people have got on the GOG forum (also linked to in the original post here).

A few people seems to want it too.
Too much maintanance needed though, they constantly need to update that list.

Yes! And a "GOG Has The Better Version" sale section, for games that crash or suck on Steam, or are available unedited in their original form on GOG (like The Last Express).
Maybe this is the kind of thing the community will have to curate.

GoG has been doing pretty good lately . I probably buy a game or two.

Thank you very much for your kind offer but I'm an adventure girl and those rpgs would be wasted on me. I do dabble in rpg's but only those like The witcher or Skyrim. For me to enjoy an rpg it has to either be amaaaaazing so I suffer through the fighting because it's worth it or have cheats so I can fully enjoy the story. xD
If you do succumb to the lure of mystery and get an adventure or a really really pretty platformer I'm your girl :D

If I remember right multiple games come in one code but you can choose what games you can activate.

Is there any game still available?
If so, I'd like ALBEDO: EYES FROM OUTER SPACE
=)

All I want is Dreamfall Chapters, but don't have the time or money to waste trying to get it with the pinata.
