Minecraft,

Personally I liked the game because of the freedom and the creativity. It was the game that got me into gaming.
But what if Minecraft was on Steam? A lot of people love it and a lot of people hate it.

Answer the poll seriously :)

(Once, a boy managed to put Minecraft on Greenlight... he got into big trouble)

Probably I'm the only one, but I don't wish for MC to be on Steam. Garbage graphic, and for me boring gameplay.

You don't know to enjoy a brilliant sandbox, Minecraft is one of the best games, and I have this opinion even tho I don't play it anymore, but I would always play again some hardcore survival with my old friends, if I would have them as my friends anymore.

in case you want something that's better graphics-wise, i'd suggest MyDream - not sure whether the gameplay is similar though since i haven't managed to play it much, but it looks quite awesome

Hm, and here I think I know Steam. Thanks, that game's reasonable priced, looks good (graphic wise), wishlisted.

Actually my enmity - for lack of better word - is that Minecraft is something that could've been 'AAA graphics' because they can, but can't be arsed.

Why would they be on steam in the first place? Never understood the appeal of Minecraft but to each their own.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder about having all games on one place. And no, adding it artificially does not count.

Inevitable discounts....
I'd [finally] buy it [too].

this, I never bought games above 10€ (and usually buy games at least below 5€), 20€ for Minecraft is just completely out of bounds for me.

Still I'm "probably" going to spend a little more than 10€ to buy Cities Skylines. Still haven't decided yet, but I think it will happen.

Aside from buying gifts for friends and two personal purchases (Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2), I also tend not to spend more than $10 for a game. I love Steam's crazy awesome discounts! >_< Although I enjoyed Minecraft when I played the Humble Bundle trial, I don't think it's worth $27 to me.

All that it would create is more groups, more community, and some giveaways or trading of it.

Minecraft has none, it's the community plug-ins that are doing it.

Prorably not, because Markus left the development(sold to microsoft),and there was plans to add it here, but they didn't really feel like it.
So in the end no minecraft on steam.

Notch left development way before the Microsoft sale, not that either of those things has anything to do with Minecraft getting on Steam. They decided against it long ago because Mojang wants to build its own user ecosystem (shared accounts between all their games) and not rely on Steams or anybody elses (console games excluded). I don't know if their purchase by Microsoft will lead to Microsoft account integration someday but for now it seems they are sticking with the original plan.

Microsoft is pretty good about keeping good things as they are, so they will probably keep the logins how they work right now, but add in the ability to sign up with your microsoft account, or link them.

Honestly, Minecraft without mods is just shit. It's like playing with an extremely bland and boring Lego Basic set. I'd buy it on a sale and mod the shit out of it tho.

Minecraft on steam ? with paid mod ? oh god, it would be a R.I.P minecraft community.

Permalink

Once I thought about that too, but Minecraft is doing much better without Steam, game sells very good even at full price, it's one of the best selling games in the world, 34 million copies sold on different platforms, so who ever likes it buy's it, who ever not, don't. Also with Steam forcing discounts and now paid mods, will make it only worse. Lots of ppl who would like buy it only in discount, but won't really play it even 100 hours.

It's pretty much like that, (the part about copies sold) because the game doesn't force any kind of it's DRM apart from the login, afaik.
You can simply add it as a non-steam game to Steam, or to any other platform which allows it, so people have nothing to be afraid of.
And yup, you're so right. I honestly hope game doesn't make it to Steam. If there were discounts, servers would be flooded with trolls, cheaters and so on, altho there are some of those already, it's not a huge amount.
Similiar thing is going on with CS:GO, but there it's a much much bigger deal.
And on the other hand, if they would never do discounts on steam, people would complain about that too.

I don't quite know how Steam calculates the positiveness but I think it would at least get Very Positive if not Overwhelming. If they don't count unpopular reviews for much then pretty much guaranteed Overwhelming.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Since you can only rate game positively and negatively, I bet they calculate positiveness just by comparing positive votes with total amount votes, and then like if there are over 90% positive votes, game is overwhelmingly positive. But that's just my speculation.

Considering the mods wouldn't follow Steams new greedy marketing I would be down for it. Just because I want Minecraft to go on sale so I can buy it for cheapoz.
Some features would be awesome. Join friends on servers in no time. Share screenshots. Have all the mods in the workshop.

Minecraft on steam the thought that makes me laugh since Minecraft creators and steam are both too greedy to make an agreement to sell their game.
