That makes sense. Unfortunately for me, I'm not in any CS groups, nor do I remember joining any Steam Groups, lately.

I do not join any of those free crap groups and i dont get invited to any of them as well. Problem solved.

Probably because of the game activity. If you are in any game you are - get more chance of spam invitations.

All the random Steam group invitations are annoying. After all this time, no real fix has been made from Valve. Patience I guess.

I've never gotten such an invite (that I'm aware of and recall). I can only imagine that your SG position contributed to your invites. You could be perceived as a "big fish" to catch.

But why wont you join those amazing groups ... with group creators who havent given away a single game on SG , but claim they have made group GA's for Stuff like ( Guess what ) GTA V , DOOM , Call of Duty and more !
Or a guy who is making a MASSIVE giveaway with 10 keys for a game that is currently free on humble ...
OR the KEY Drop guy , who only asks for small card donation we dont need , so he can drop keys in chat for games that ware free about 17 times in the past 2 hours but he claims he actually bough and thats purely coincidence ...
Who wouldnt want to join those groups , cmon now !
Uh yeah i forgot the guy with the shitty curator who has like 2k reviews all of which combined are shorter then my post here ...
I do think you are missing out by not joining them >.>
ITs an experience .

These bot spam most likely originate from large Steam groups such as Steam Universe, 100% Achievements Group, GOG.com or even S.Gifts (although I don't have many issues with that one). My bet is on Steam Universe - large, spammy (by that I mean the user base), and extremely highly populated.

The thing is, it's only started recently. I had no spam before a few weeks ago.

I'd still try leaving Steam Universe, at least temporarily. Because spam didn't originate from there in the past does not necessarily insure it can't happen later on.

I also get multiple steam group invites and friend requests from bots. :/

The jist of the comment chain above is use Enhanced Steam to automatically ignore the spam invites. Sign into Steam on Chrome with Enhanced Steam to not get the spam invitations; when you use the Steam client, Enhanced Steam will remove them before you are notified. That is the theory though.

After an uncountable number of Steam Group invites to "FREE 10-50$ FOR OPEN CASE blahblahblah," I have finally developed an automatic reflex. To wit, ...
I still haven't figured out why I've been getting tens of these every day for the past couple of weeks, but my patience is worn out.
