Title pretty much says it all. I really would like to have a way to communicate with my whitelist via discussions. Basically just on option, something like "Visible for () everyone or () whitelist only". And obviously needs a section in discussions, like "group" in giveaways. Would be very helpful to ask the folks on your whitelist what giveaway to do next and such. Couldn't find it's been suggested before, or is it that I just didn't find it?

You could maybe make a Steam group for it? Not sure if having individual private discussions would be feasible for 1 million users tbh 🤷

Then I would have to invite everyone on whitelist to that group and kick them again, in case they I remove them. Whitelist already exists, it just would need to be applied to discussions. I doubt it would put much more strain on the server either, as it hardly matters if a discussion is visible to everyone or just whitelist, but of course that's up to the admin to decide.

Do we really need people complaining about discussions they can't see as well as giveaways?

Yes we do. I am an equal opportunity offender.
You're one of the 300 or so whitelisted btw.

You'd have to also convince cg to finally implement a blacklist-affects-discussions option, otherwise you're gonna get some users abusing that feature to spam people, as whitelisting is one-directional (ie, allowing someone to whitelist random users, then post nothing but junk threads on a regular basis.)

I'm fairly sure admins/moderators would still see those discussions and stop abusers (like random whitelist and massive discussion spam) and in case someone's just not interested in well meant whitelist discussions, they wouldn't have to check the corresponding section. Maybe it's a bit more work for mods at the beginning, but the benefit might be worth it. Or maybe I'm to optimistic and it would be mostly used for abuse.

Everything else aside, keep in mind the subjectiveness of such things. One user could be frustrated to no end by a flood of shitposts, and other whitelistees wouldn't mind it, or would find it amusing. SG staff protocols always lean toward the more generous option, so without any method for the individual user to take control of such things, there's guaranteed to be frustrating situations of some sort on a regular basis that staff won't even consider addressing.

In short, if you give one person the power to force another into an unpleasant situation, then you should also give that second user the power to remove themselves from the situation. Otherwise you're openly encouraging and in agreement with any ill behavior from the first individual.

Well, unlike a private message or an email, nobody would be forced to read any whitelist discussions at all. So the spam factor would be limited, in my opinion. However, you may be right, no matter how well intended, there will be abuse. Most folks here seems to think it would do more harm than good. An easy way to contact my whitelist would have been cool, but I guess I can live without it. I'll close this discussion later on, unless there's more thoughts to share? :-)

I can't argue that, at least. :)

And I'm only saying it'd do harm if it was implemented without proper consideration. It doesn't seem like a negative feature persay, and I'm all in favor of discussions within whitelists being more than just giveaway-related.

They still have a flood of tickets to work through.

better to make a group on steam to manage it, i don't think sg discussions are the place to host private chats...
