You could try Jak X. It can be played via an emulator and there are community servers. You can play with your friends by selecting the teams accordingly. I also really liked the campaign, though this part of the game is not playable in multiplayer but each map and gamemode from the campaign can be played individually in mutliplayer matches.

Forza Horizon 4
ONRUSH
WRC 9
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
F1 2020 (no real co-op but you can join the same team as a friend)
Wreckfest (team deathmatch)
Ok, this didn't work out too well :((

He's looking for games with coop campaigns, not just games where you can race together :P That's why Forza doesn't count, can't speak for the rest.

Yeah, Mario Kart doesn't have any campaign either, I don't think there's many games that really fit the requirements, haha.

WRC doesn't really have a campaign, plus you never race together, only against each other. It is like the F1 games

the best of all for local coop = Horizon Chase Turbo
have a cooperative campaign. several vehicles. based on the classics but with a modern touch. beautiful and with amazing music. Supports 4k and ultra widescreen. more than 100 tracks and several game modes. I play with my wife, nephews, brother, sister-in-law, literally for the whole family. Difficulty for amateurs and professionals. local game split screen up to 4 players and also online. It has a dlc that adds Formula 1 cars and tracks and a first-person camera. supports wheel & pedals controls but unfortunately it doesn't have a story mode

Sonic All-stars racing transformed was such a fun co-op campaign to play through, as well as the newer Team sonic racing.
You can play through a story/campaign in co-op throughout the whole thing. Do challenges etc. It's a lot of fun if you like arcade racing games.
(Double check if the co-op is available online. I played them locally. But I am pretty sure online co-op is available)

I know for a fact that Racing Transformed didn't give me and my friend any ability to play the campaign together on PC. Rather, we spent a rather long while trying to find that option, without any luck. Putting aside the possibility of us just being really bad at working menus, Co-Optimus also states that Racing Transformed only has local co-op (up to 4 players, apparently) but no hybrid or online-only co-op options.
So one could try Steam's super-janky Remote Play and see if that works, but there theoretically isn't any proper online co-op.
Which is a real pity, as it's pretty well suited for co-op, even despite the AI shortcomings.
Side-note (while we're discussing technical shortcomings), Racing Transformed has a bad habit of deleting save files, at least by my experience, so do back-up local save files every so often. IIRC it's a common bug that occurs with cloud saves on, so you can avoid it just by disabling them..? But it's been years since we played the game, and while I know my recollection of causation is a real one I may actually be associating the recollection to the wrong game entirely, so that possible fix is something that should be verified independently.

That's really strange. I am 100% sure I played it on Steam, entire campaign with my friend in local co-op (with controllers). We got every single challenge in gold, all the achievements etc. Vivid memory of ours, and we loved it.
And I also vaguely remember doing a mix of local & online to play the normal multiplayer versus mode (but less certain about this).
It's possible you're confusing All stars racing, with All stars racing transformed? Or maybe you just got unlucky with setting up your multiplayer. (If you ever want to give it a shot again, if I recall correctly, all players, on controllers at least, press start in the main menu, before selecting a game mode. There should be a clear indicator of how many players are detected currently).
EDIT: I just realised, I think your struggles with your friend were referring to your ONLINE attempts, and in STORY mode. My bad haha

Gas Guzzlers Extreme has online normal and combat team racing, amongst other team player modes against AI (there are two DLCs that add additional game modes), and it even has a single player campaign.
Also, according to the store page, it supports racing wheels.
From the store page:
"Fast-as-lightning multiplayer tournaments with 7 different modes (classic race, power race, battle race, knockout, deathmatch, last man standing and capture the flag); with up to 4 teams available in team play mode."
"Full force feedback controller support as well as keyboards, joy pads, joysticks and racing wheels."

Team Play Mode is, when not simply used as a direct alternative for "Team PvP", typically a way of saying "Team PVP but bot teams can also be a thing". However, according to the Steam page, the phrasing ("Instant play with vicious AI Bots populating your multiplayer match while other players begin to join in on the fun.") indicates that bots only fill the other teams until random players join the match. So (since I have the game myself and was curious for my own sake) I went and found a developer post confirming that co-op is actually a thing.
Thusly, here's a supporting link for your post: https://steamcommunity.com/app/243800/discussions/0/594820656457088466#c594820656457286956
You can play everygame mode in up to 4 teams at same time. So for example you and your friend can be in one team and you can make 3 more bot teams, or 2 human teams against 2 bot teams.

I have my favorite game and it still my all-time sim favorite + best chilling soundtracks ever. Unfortunately, it is not a racing game but, it is about car/truck simulation which is quite hard to do the mission called SnowRunner. You will interested in doing the Co-Op feature since a job takes a long time to do.

The best of all time was Mario Kart Double Dash on GameCube. Two people to one kart -- one person driving, the other person sitting behind, responsible for items.

Hi,
I am looking for racing games to play coop with my friends (Preferably ones that support a wheel.)
However, all I can find are racing games that allow me to PvP against them, not play with them. I want a full campaign that I can have fun with. Preferably one with a storyline. The last such game I played and loved was The Crew. I had an amazing time with it. However, with The Crew 2, they removed the story mode and made it more like Forza, which has no story campaign. At best it has a progression system that feels very hollow to me personally.
If the games are on the game pass, it would be even better, as I don't have to convince my friends to spend much money to join me, thus lowering the barrier to entry.
I am a very bad gamer, who is totally not looking for realism. I just want a fun arcade-like game. Need for Speed games are fun, but they don't have a coop campaign :(
I hope you guys can help me out here.
Thanks in advance!
