Been on steam myself for 7+ years now and the first game I bought on steam according to my transaction history was Sid Meier's Civilization IV complete edition.
I don't tend to buy games on steam as I often find games cheaper elsewhere. The first game I activated on steam about 2 years earlier ironically was Sid Meier's Civilization V in 2010.

Coming up on 15 years this September; I can't believe this much time has gone by. It seems like only yesterday I was on my 33.6K dialup playing CS 1.3 @ Jayballs CS Server pre-steam.

I just saw this, which means that I'm celebrating my 10th birthday on Steam!!
This day, ten years ago, was the day I created an account and bought Order of War shortly after because it was the cheapest strategy game in their store. It was before the introduction of regional prices and I was just a broke high school student, therefore I couldn't spend much.
Anyway, here's a GA to celebrate!
