I payed for the game, I even bought some DLCs, got others for free (people gifted me and I'm grateful for that). Met nice people playing it and some trolls/idiots. I don't think I wasted my money, honestly. It was a good investment and fun, but seeing how they treated the game over the years, makes me feel very sad. I won't recommend the game now.
The skins, the lies, the micromanagements, the black or white community, the DLC fest, they dropped an expensive DLC with the lamest of the excuses, the lack of content... I'ts F2P philosophy in an expensive and repetitive game, disgusting.

We are giving away 5 million copies of PAYDAY 2 for a limited time only. Download it for free and keep it forever. This is the base game only. If you download it, you get the PAYDAY 2 VR game released later this year for free

It's only free for a limited time.

They will remove previous DLCs and merge it into a big one.

Explain, please. Can one attach F2P games to his account permamently that way? How to use that
Comment has been collapsed.
This option is more for users that farm trading cards with ASF and they want to add the license to all their accounts. When steam is releasing a license with no cost you can check the steamdb page for the correct license. If you only want to add the license to your main account. You can just go to the game page and press the play game or whatever icon comes up when its free.

Make sure you say there's only 5 million copies available.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh well. I guess it's pretty worthless without the DLCs?
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't need to own the DLC's to play other maps, as long as other people has the DLC, all people in the heist get to play the map :)
Comment has been collapsed.
yes and no. DLCs are mostly characters and weapons. You can play perfectly with the base game and the vast majority of the DLCs are quite shitty and, honestly speaking, useless because at the end it's only a weapon and some weapon modifications

This is infuriating. If I knew they were gonna pull this goofy move I would have just sat back and waited rather than pay for it....
Comment has been collapsed.
For starters don't put words in my mouth. I never said anything about not caring about supporting the developers and only wanting free games. You made that part up. That's your wrong assumption. It's just a crappy and poorly planned move on the developers part given their rather questionable history of updates, game direction and business practices. In a hypothetical situation, if players were given the decision to pay for a game immediately to play it versus waiting until x amount of game units are sold before it goes free, there are many people like myself which would have simply said "I can wait". Even if it did take 2 or 3 years.
Comment has been collapsed.
No way! Really? That was sarcasm? Who would have guessed? Because also that was sarcasm as well because according to you we have to point it out every time we do it. I'll just work on gaining those mutant powers to see into the future next time to see what the next free game is (That was also sarcasm). Where did I imply at anytime that I was held at gun point to buy the game? First off I didn't just buy game recently I've owned it for a couple of years now. Furthermore nobody other than Overkill knew they where gonna giveaway 5 million copies so how could I have waited for something no one ever knew was gonna be free to begin with? Also you don't get to decide how much is too much for my wallet also when and where I decide to make a purchase. How was I supposed to magically know Overkill would start performing bad business practices and bad game direction all those years ago? It was these things among others that slowly made me shy away from the company as a whole. Buying the game itself wasn't a regret but seeing the direction the game went along with its business practices makes me wish I knew long ago it would go free one day helping me decide to wait it out...

Sadly, it seems that butthurt is very pre-dominant in the Payday community currently. People who got the game in 2014 now DEMANDING they get free stuff, a refund or some special content because it's free now, and Overkill NEEDS to compensate them for the 5 bucks they spend 3 years ago.
Don't believe me?

What's even more hilarious is you walking into a conversation trying to be some so-called edgy jackass. Then suddenly when you get serious response back you wanna take this fake holier-than-thou self righteous attitude up. But seeing how you're completely devoid of any form of empathy (and I guess you're proud of that), all you see is salty ranting rather than any kind of logical explanation given because all that matters is your side of the argument. Of course talking to you is about as useful as having a debate with a cinder block anyway.....
Comment has been collapsed.
And predictably you're a good representation of the typical other side of the Payday 2 community with your typical comments of STFU, quit your whining, spoiled brat this, entitled person that. Carrying the same typical "It-doesn't-bother-me-so-there-is-no-problem!" mentality around with you everywhere you go. Again I say a pointless endeavor talking to you in any degree. You just like starting fights with random people on the internet for entertainment and that's just sad. You really that lonely with nothing else better to do???
Comment has been collapsed.
You mean the thing you've been doing this whole time? Not really making a point about anything just being a combative ass for the sake of being one? Ironically you walked into the discussion not even having a point. Again pointless trying to reason with a troll like you...
Comment has been collapsed.
The so-called point you're trying to make is rather weak, extremely subjective and unsubstantiated. You're no better than than the people you attempt to criticize. So I strongly suggest you get your high horse....
Comment has been collapsed.
Not really, you just take the most vague and roundabout route to explain so little. I just didn't feel like listening to you blab on about nothing for God knows how long.

Is "winning" internet arguments like the highlight of your day or something? Ewww you need a friend and a better hobby bro....

Wow that's kinda sad you really do skulk around forums looking for whoever to talk to or mess with. Jesus.....your life or lifestyle is kinda depressing if this is your "thing". Again as I say. you need a better hobby bro.....
Comment has been collapsed.
Just because a heroine addict enjoys shooting up on a regular basic doesn't mean his habit/hobby is any less pathetic. What qualifies me to tell you that your hobby isn't worth doing? Gee I dunno, common sense and respect for my follow man maybe? Skulking around forums trying to be an edgelord to random people you meet is not a hobby regardless of how much you enjoy it...
Comment has been collapsed.
Its worth is irrelevant. The fact is I use common sense to give respect to others including strangers kiddo unlike you....

do you honestly believe they knew they would do this 2-3 years ago? they sure didn't. and even if they did, then it would be the absolute right move to not tell you guys, for obvious reasons.
this argumentation is just as flawed as complaining about a price reduction a year after release. "if i knew this, i would not have bought for full price!" the price of a product is always subject to change, and that's absolutely fine. does it really matter, if it is reduced to 10€ or 5€ or 0€? i don't think so (unless the reduction to 0€ also means a change of gameplay elements). you had fun with the game for years, right? you got your money's worth. you paid for access to the game at the time. and nothing about that changed now. as least that's how i see it.
Comment has been collapsed.
And your argument is viciously flawed in how you both cherry picked my words and misconstrued my meaning. Why on earth are you trying to make a counter argument out of a hypothetical situation given as an example to begin with? Aside from that you missed the entire point I was trying to make. At the time of purchase, it was worth the money, BUT as time went on with Overkill's bad business practices and update strategies the game became an exhausting burden. (Microtranactions, massive updates that take up to 40-60GB of temporary space, constant unnecessary combat overhauls, etc...) And now it's being given out for free. You might not see it or even agree with it but some older players are just thinking "After all these headaches Overkill has given to people trying to stick with the game, they're just gonna give it out for free!?" What was the point of even buying this mess to begin with?"
Now if you're one of the lucky players who picked this up recently for free to a degree I can understand SOME of the push back against others criticizing the game. If I can see the other side of the argument to some degree, why can't you? And for the record, no I don't feel I got my money's worth out of the game either...

I definitely regret supporting both Overkill and Tripwire with expensive preorders.
With PD2 specifically it was pre-release lies re game scope / level count, then indeed random 180° gameplay changes, and patches so big and frequent with very little improvement.
We've made it clear that PAYDAY 2 will have no micro-transactions whatsoever (shame on you if you thought otherwise!)

The state they released RO2 in (their refusal to disable some silly malfunctioning systems to make it playable on launch). For quite some time, players had to cope with a game based on a progression system that worked maybe 10% of the time.
The time they randomly quadrupled the KF DLC prices
Their incomprehensible laziness when it comes to releasing Linux server binaries for just about every game.
Both Overkill and TWI did the "preorder our super expensive edition, trust us, we're the good guys" bait 'n' switch.
Comment has been collapsed.
They are probably transitioning into the final Edition of the game, that bundles base game + dlc's, so I think you missed your chance to buy dlcs individually.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not the final edition of the game at all, there's still more DLC to come any new DLC will just be free for all players

PD2 is complex for a co-op FPS, and new people don't know how to play.
After a time many veteran players just dislike new players as a collective because they are ignorant, often unwilling to learn, often don't listen, and are literally more often than not a detriment to success at on harder heists.
With the recent Crew Management update to make bots more useful (though they are still bots, and thus mediocre) I can say without hesitation that your average non-infamy player is a worse teammate than a bot.
What makes me not so hostile to noobs is that I'm rarely playing with a specific and serious goal, and so I don't care too often if we fail.

Wow. Never really had any interest in the game, but for free, I'll give it a try. If it's anything like a Saints Row game, it could be remotely interesting.
