Free Dota 2 on Steam!

So I was on Steam today looking through my friends list and I saw one of my buddys playing Dota 2. So I went tover to his profile and on the top right corner it said "clcik to join game". (I dont own Dota 2) So I was like "Let me just click it and see what happens". So I clicked it and it sent me to the download, lol. I was so confused.. I told some of my friends to try the same thing and they all got a download to the game. I went over to the store page to check if it was free or not and it wasn't. The price was $29.99 and under in green it was highlited and it says "you already own Dota 2".

EDIT: I dont like Dota 2 and didnt install the game.

Its not like its hard to find a key, plus it costs that much cuz it has couple of cosmetic sets...
