80%?! I only fin 14% of them to be actually interesting and fresh.. Most of them try too hard to be retro and hipster and their only "innovation" is using 8-bit graphics...
But just my opinion.

I'd actually say 1% if not less when you consider the fact that all the flash/phone games out there are indie games as well.

Money is everything. As much money on the line as all AAA games have, they won't take any risks that wouldn't bring profit to them and is catered towards the casual players.
Indie games on the other hand don't have the same amount of money going on, which doesn't give them invisible handcuffs and allows more creative freedom with the thing they want to do. Though, still we have too much of the same thing, repeated over and over again.

Actually indie industry is even far worse than the AAA industry when you realize that about 95% (obviously it isn't exact, but it's pretty much that high) of the industry is just copy-cats of hit games and/or just doesn't try anything new. If you are going to say that indie industry is better than AAA industry just because of a few really really good examples, remember that AAA industry have few really really good games of their own as well, And also few good examples doesn't redeem the whole industry.
EDIT: I also don't argue against what you said, I agree with it, but what you said is just in theory because even if they don't have limitation as developers under big corporations, there are still many other limitation factors.

There may be certain limitations, but also more freedom. When working with a big publisher, all sorts of demands are made regarding the game's content because they want to maximize sales and market it to as broad an audience as possible. They will also set milestones and deadlines that developers cannot possibly hope to meet.
And then there's the horrible shit like crunching which pervades essentially all AAA game development.
The whole discussion about copycats and the stagnation of ideas is a different one, IMO, since that's basically something you'll find in any form of media.

You say outside the AAA industry they have freedom to create whatever the fuck comes to their mind. But this kind of freedom doesn't matter when the developer just doesn't use it, and most of them don't, so in the end the ratio of games made with this freedom to other games is pretty much the same in both industries.
Yeah, but in the indie industry (in any media) the phenomenon is way too rampant, much more than the bigger industries.

INDIE GAMES MEANS... games made by indians. Bollygames

I agree, i've been having fun with Greenlight/early access games personally. Quirky art styles, unapologetic gameplay, unique stories... IMO they more closely resemble and reinvent the experience of all those "classic" games that have helped make me the gamer I am. Not to say all AAA games suck (at all), but when there's less than 10 hours worth of content put into the title's singular linear storyline, it's definitely a let down.

Now tell me, within a year, how many GOOD AAA games come out?
1, 2? An example... 2013. How many? Bioshock infinite (even if it's a crap compared to his predecessors) , COH 2, Metro last light, Remember me, Tomb Raider , and? They're few, guys...
I'm not criticizing or anything, but this is REALITY. Software houses are slaves of publishers, the publishers look only to gain, and this is the consequence

Both bio1 and bio2 was awesome imho, System shock is divine

It takes less time/money to develop indie games so there are way more games available. The majority of indiegames do suck though (just like the majority of AAA games), there just are so many indie games that you never run out of good ones compared to the few AAA games each year.

"less time".... Less time?... LESS TIME?! Da crap you been smokin' brah?
Unless you're comparing most indie games to Duke Nukem Forever it often takes more time, especially when they're only being made by one person, or maybe a group of 3 people.

Many AAA games have like 500 developers and take 2 years to develop a game. Many indie games do the same with 3 people. It does take less time because the games are obviously 'smaller'. Barely any people to pay = more time to work on it, if they add the same amount of devs to an indiegame it can be done in a few weeks/months (yet it would suck because they don't have any love for the game). I look at it money/time, if you just look at time it probably is the same yes :p

Call of Duty. They seem to come out with like 2 a year.

some indie games are good some are just flashgames end of the line

This, don't get rose-colored glasses on when viewing "indies" as a whole. There are just as many of them as "AAA's".
Similarly, most of them are crap too.

I'd like to say that too, but today we're in a situation where we can't just spend our money to every game, because the gaming indusrty gone nuts, and our choices are too damn rilevant.
Look the 2011-2012 cod become popular? TONS OF FPS made on that awful line

And nobody dares to say "why only blaming cod?" Because this is the truth after all, only a hipster would deny it

They're actually pretty good, most of them are better than some AAA games (actually most of them).
The fact is : AAA games are expensive. Most AAA games are linear, you pay for something that will last around 7-9 hours and couldn't satisfy you at all.
Don't get me wrong, some AAA games are wonderful, but they're few. Indie games are less expansive and 80% of them offer a more great experience. Don't make a fuss for this, just say what do you think about it
(Ah, i'm obviously talking about pc gaming)
