So guys, I'm from Malaysia and will be studying in Germany next month. So I was wondering about the games I currently have on steam. With the new currencies introduced and some new region locking implementation, I just want to ask if I would be able to play them.

I'm not really clear about this region lock stuff. I've heard some are activation-restricted only, some are both activation & play-restricted, etc.

One more thing, would my steam wallet and store be changed to EU market? Would that mean I'll no longer be able to buy from Malaysia market?

P.S. Most of my games are ROW, haven't got any for SEA-restricted region yet.

you can move your steam account around the world as much as you want, region locking is just about how games can be gifted.

AFAIK there's a tag for OnlyAllowRunInCountries, so you could end up with not being able to run some of your games if you're outside the allowed region. Few games have these (and mostly only the versions from the cheaper priced markets), but it exists.

Quite a few of them actually. Mostly RU-region locked titles (Skyrim being one of them if you really want an example).

As far as I know you can play them anywhere.
My brother bought RU region Skyrim when it wasn't even available on steam in my region and he could play it.

I think unless any of your games has the 'onlyallowrunincountries' tag you can play them. You probably will be able to use only the german store. Not sure about wallet..

I can confirm this, I'd advice OP to grab what he wants from the store before leaving assuming he's not into trading, not only are games in Germany crazy expensive compared to most other regions but due to some german laws a lot of games have a special german cut version which has some content removed and some other small things like blue blood. (the laws are violence related, so if you're into let's say puzzle games I don't think you'd notice.)

I do a little bit of trading so that's a relief. So if say I used my steam account there, will they
a)block me from playing some games due to the presence of german versions?
b)change my games' version to the german ones?

If b) will it change back to the normal ones after I come back to Malaysia?

Afaik it only applies to games purchased in Germany, so for instance if you're in Germany and trade for a game that a Russian trader has purchased you won't get the German cut version, regarding B: if you do purchase a cut version while in Germany it will not change to a normal version once you return.
I've seen posts on SG in the past from people temporarily moving to another country, to my understanding steam support should be able to switch games to the version you need (in case one of your games is indeed marked as "onlyallowrunincountries") but they will request you to send them some formal paperwork to prove you've actually moved.

Ok that's fine, I only got my games from trading anyway so they should all be ROW.

ROW can still run in for example Russia right? But not the other way around?

SteamDB has the details displayed under the Additional Information section for applicable games. If you have EnhancedSteam installed, a link to the relevant steam database page is added to each steam store & game hub page - which makes everything a little faster. I'm not aware of a tool to check your entire library for games with a specific tag, but it'd be pretty easy to do.

As far as purchasing games goes, you can select whatever store you want through a web browser. UK, German, Malaysian etc... As long as you have a bank account in Malaysia, you should be fine buying from the Malaysian store from anywhere in the world. I've done this several times when travelling outside of my home country.

I've just contacted Steam Support regarding this matter. They insisted that I keep on using the Malaysian store eventhough I won't be coming back for at least another 8 months (I'm studying in Egypt, btw). About the game, so far there's no problem with mine. I think the only restriction is for activating specific region-locked games. Playing them is no problem.
