I think you need to wait for the author to update the skin for the newest version. I know. I just got the release of the new client version and I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE the new library.
Did I mention that I hate it?
I need to wait for a new version of Pixelvision 2.0.

Would a skin be able to make some of the information disappear?
._. Don't get me wrong, I like my friends, but I do not want to see when they got an achievement, or played the game for the first time, or god knows what might appear in this potential spoilery activity field that hogs most of the game pages now.
I can live with almost everything this update brings, but hogging 2/3 of a games page with information I really really do not want to see is- Gosh, who thought this was a great idea?
I care about MY achievements, screenshots, DLC's, etc.
I do not care about the achievements, playtime and opinion of someone else.
Well, at least I've a reason to switch to GOG Galaxy now. No friends on GOG means no Information on what they do :p
Comment has been collapsed.
And we can hope that Galaxy becomes even better. I'm sure they will consider the feedback and implement features people actually want, or make things optional.
Even now, I prefer the Galaxy Beta over Steam and it's still missing some features I would love to see.

That makes me happy. The old Steam UI was a pain to make skins for. It's one of the things I preferred about Desura back when that was a thing.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm guessing now it's live people will be really digging into it and skins and/or guides for editing it should start showing up fairly soon.

I hate spoiler-achievements so much that I stopped to check activity page some time ago..
Now I have them on my game page...
Valve secretly supports GOG galaxy?
Comment has been collapsed.
Lol
I was shitbombed here fir saying that steam is not a social media platform xD
And lets be honest - with each change they try to introduce more and more "social" elements.
Comment has been collapsed.
Aye, there's a reason why some achievements are hidden. But I assume, as soon as one of my friends unlocks them, I will also see them on my game page... I hate spoilers u.ΓΊ
And honestly, I absolutely do not care if one of my friends unlocks an achievement, or when they played a game for the first time. If I'm interested, I just ask them.
Oh, and screenshots... It also presents you their screenshots.
Comment has been collapsed.
If it at least started with the library/icon view (of the desired category (*ies)) instead of the "what's new" shit (or let us permanently collapse the what's new, recent games and recent friends activities shelves) I'd be fine. But it's ridiculously annoying that it doesn't allow you to do that...
like this plz...
Comment has been collapsed.
You can go to settings and change the library display size to small (default is large), it won't solve it but it will make the "what's new" shelf really small. As for recent games and recent friend activities you can remove them, just click the text and you can replace it with any of your categories or just delete it (or drag it down under everything else by dragging the line on the right of the name)
Comment has been collapsed.
After some testing around, the "What's new" can also be completely removed, a little harder if you have a large library but since not every game gets daily updates it's not as bad. You can just right click on any news on there and you get options to "See less", "See more" or "Remove". Doing see less for everything should eventually lead to an empty bar and it gets removed when it's empty. Just selecting remove also works but then you'll keep getting news for said games when they get updates.
It can also be removed by changing some lines in a file from Steam's folder but it resets with every restart/steam update. I'm sure someone will make a patch that does that automatically any time steam starts (if it doesn't even exist already)
Comment has been collapsed.
Recent games and friend activity shelves can be removed/replaced. What's New isn't a shelf and as yet can't be removed.

Honestly, the worse for me is it broke every single of my categories and unhid all the games I was done with and hid from my library. As a result, I had to organize my categories again as 1/3 of my games were not uncategorized. The dynamic categories could be nice if we could do something else than adding categories. For example, I would love to have a category "Point & Click" not including "Hidden Objects", but that's not possible, you can only add categories and not make exceptions. Disappointed.
Comment has been collapsed.
I had over 70 categories from before. Only 90 games got messed up. Everything else was intact.
Tbh... I Kinda like the new features.
The exceptions option would be a nice touch though π And also a scaling slider for the size of game thumbnails.

"I pulled so hard, I ripped the skin!"
Sorry it fucked up so much for ya. But to be fair, you seem to be using a 3rd party incompatible skin for something that just massively changed. It's like complaining that an outdated mod won't run on the new version of the game :/
Comment has been collapsed.
But the news of this new client is out for some weeks/months and not even one updated their skin yet, and some might not even bother, secondly it did work just fine (until today) as long as you didn't sign up for beta, and as long as it isn't 100% yet we shouldn't be forced this down our throat with all sorts of extra junk most people aren't looking for, as with windows 10, and so much other sites and software.
Also not complaining, i am just asking if someone knows a workaround, also was questioning if it was just me, and maybe some other skins would still work and i could try, but guess not.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm guessing people won't waste time updating for a public opt-in beta since things are bound to change. Now that it's out officially (I'm guessing, since I haven't received an update yet), I'm guessing people will actually start working on it. Basically how mod development has worked. So don't give up hope, odds are the process has just started :D

All of our complains are totally unreasonable in light of the fact, that they have just created a solid mainframe, that shortly will allow them to feed us with an unending stream of exciting advertisements, that will further improve their income ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
i guess there is no way of getting rid of this now?
yes the old library was dated but minimalistic and i liked it.
now it's one big ass convoluted mess with a lot of unnecessary stuff. if you could at least customize what you want to show but no, that would be too easy and way too useful.
Comment has been collapsed.
I am fine with this IF they would have made it so we could decide ourselves what we want to see and what not, I for 1 don't care what my friends think of a game or what they achieved in it, nor do I care to see community stuff, if I want to see that I will go to the Community Hub, etc. I just want to see the name of the game and my achievements and maybe who owns it, just the stuff we saw before, the rest is useless to me personally and if they made it so we could decide what to see, I wouldn't mind the new Library that much
Comment has been collapsed.
The community content bugged me too, but it turns out that you can disable that in Settings -> Library -> Disable Community Content
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I found that indeed, thanks, but what is also bugging me is this 'friend achieved this, friend reviewed the game' stuff like that, I don't care about that, they put THAT in front of my face and the stuff like the DLC and my own achievements, muffled away at the side... in which world does that make sense!?
Comment has been collapsed.
I hope I can keep it from putting an announcement on my friends' activity feeds when I get achievements. That really freaks me out.
I agree about being able to show our own activity instead of friends', although I don't mind seeing friends'. Maybe they could put a clickable selector nest to the "Activity" heading to switch filters, like this:
ACTIVITY
( all
| own
| friends
)
and allow you to set a defauilt.
I'd also like to be able to add the old DLC block somewhere on the page rather than having it buried inside the Properties.
Oh, and it would be nice to have an option for the links at the top open in a browser instead of in steam.
Comment has been collapsed.
I am fine with seeing friends activity, if I ask for it, but not in my face like that every time I open the game page, they should make it optional, indeed, like a toggle thingy, that would make it WAY better already and I want priority over my own stuff first, now it feels like Steam things my friends activity is more important than my own...

Downloading random .zip files from some YouTube video is a terrible idea.
If you really must downgrade, I wrote a script that will download the last version of Steam directly from Valve's servers and extract all of the files for you. I'm also just a person on the internet, but you can definitely look at the contents of the script so you can see there's nothing malicious there.

Doesn't work for me unfortunately. Getting tons of the same error with
"Expand-Archive : The term 'Expand-Archive' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again."

Give it another try. I'm not sure why that error is happening but I'll look into it. If it's not successful, don't worry, nothing will happen to your Steam folder. You'll want to put C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam there.

I tried it and it seems to have worked fine. Steam is back to the old version and everything is working so far. Thanks a lot :)
Are these Steam client files coming directly from Steam or steamdb? I am curious to know how to get them in case I need to do it again in the future. I could make my own backup files, but I probably won't. I have used steamdb in the past to get manifest numbers and download old game versions through the Steam console, but I have never tried finding previous Steam client files.
Comment has been collapsed.
They come from Steam's CDN. If you want to download all of the files, look at the array on line 29-47, download https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/[file] and remove the hash at the end to get a .zip. For example, I would download https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/tenfoot_misc_all.zip.1ca83d76835b4613170f5cead778b176b11f2b0c , then rename it to tenfoot_misc_all.zip, and unzip it into my Steam directory.
Please keep in mind the following:
Running old versions of Steam may be fine for a while... until an exploit is discovered and Valve only updates the version with the new library. Be careful.
Comment has been collapsed.
That helps me understand where the files are coming from and how to use them, but what if I need a different version. These instructions will help me download this version again, but what if it is a year from now and steam releases an update that breaks something for me or I just don't like it. How do I find the previous version files without asking someone else to tell me what list of files to download?
Comment has been collapsed.
SteamDB tracks client manifest update payloads.
E: That actually gives me an idea for another script/program that will download update payloads from before a specific date.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. It's still a bit confusing trying to find which files to download to get a previous version of Steam, but I can probably figure it out from here with some research.
Comment has been collapsed.
well, the new update definitely fucked up my library, categories and so on.. as soon as possible I'll try something to revert back.. =\

Is a bit ugly and very chaotic the new library design for me. Who can really ask for this change?
Comment has been collapsed.
Really? I didn't even think to check the RAM usage... if that's the case, that sucks. I'd rather have the old client. I'm not that much fond of the thumbnails, I was fine without them. I haven't fidgeted much with the new version but what annoyed me instantly, and I know that's such a tiny detail is that categories are the same gray color than the uninstalled games. Using some shade of blue instead would have made them more noticeable, imo. I know... stupid, but I really hate it. still better than the new Twitter layout though
Comment has been collapsed.
Didn't do much, the above statement is with Low-performance mode . God knows how much worse it would have been on normal. I should add it constantly uses like 10% of my CPU with GPU rendering on... And I can say I have a fourth gen i7... It's pretty terrible.
Comment has been collapsed.
no one hates it, you people are just not used to it, in a month no one will even notice the change
Comment has been collapsed.
I love the new library and the new experimental game recommendation stuff they do. Sure, it looks ugly right now but it's normal that the skins got screwed. Lots of elements were changed and I think they use a new engine. It was inevitable. But maybe giving people the option to keep the old view could be nice of them.
Comment has been collapsed.
i can get used to it i guess.
but there is one major problem for me i use steam library sharing and there used to be category named after that friends name with all that persons games i can still access them but the category is gone and it sucks.
Comment has been collapsed.
Seems what happened is a few of my categories disappeared, so any game that was categorized within them is left uncategorized now... mixed in with the actual uncategorized games... it is a bit of a mess.
Previously we could edit sharedconfig.vdf to manually change some categories/etc. but it seems this file is no longer used.
Does anybody know where (if anywhere?) this library data is stored in the new version?
edit: I wonder if when I first tried the beta, it synced my categories, and when I reverted back and kept categorizing, now that the new library is active again it brought back my categorizations from the first beta and didn't reimport my current library? hmm.
Comment has been collapsed.
new library is ass, removed minimize all and now i have to do it one at a time...
Comment has been collapsed.
The "drag and hold" thing completely breaks the ui for me too. Surprised it didn't get caught in beta, but they'll probably fix that soon. In the meantime, dragging from the sidebar to the collections screen seems to work fine. Well - if you want games to be added to a single collections- no obviously easy way to add an uncategorised game to multiple collections at once.
Comment has been collapsed.
I love it! It looks great.
I like my shiny achievements and nice big cards, which I can see right away without going to the inventory. I like the screenshots threre and the community hub scrolling down... really, like it! :D
I have only three categories and everything seems okay. ;)

+1 same, Dynamic collection is absolutely amazing too and you can even lower the box art size thro setting -> library settings.

So opting out of beta no longer guarantees you aren't forced with Steam's new UI.

[Edit] Since a few days steam killed the old UI fix, forcing everyone to use their new client (till somehow hopefully find a fix).
You can atleast remove the what's new? section by following this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMC3pSVViiA
