Can you do something about it? Like contacting Humble Bundle or Steam to revoke said key and give it back to you?

Needed to ask in case of something like this happening in a future.

Thank you! :)

You could try, but most official re-sellers don't condone trading or "random" gifting of keys.

So that means the person who uses the key for other purposes should get a key himself linked to the SG account to avoid a permanent ban?

I thought you can just contact the provider as in the key was stolen, so they can give it to you back, if that even works...

you could try asking bundle sites to revoke them without sending excuses.

also, winners will get suspended here so even if they get away with a free key, they will be punished.

About a year ago I activated a key on my son's account by mistake. We wrote Steam support from his login, explaining the situation, and they responded saying that they'll deactivate the key this one time, so I was able to use it again to add to my account.

This was surprising as it showed that they care and understand this could be a genuine mistake, but they won't allow this more than one time — to prevent abuse, which is totally understandable.

You were totally lucky, usually their bot says "buy second copy".

That's possible, of course. Still worth a try.

Huh... How do they recover keys that had been used already?

Do the key works again once revoked?

They provide you with a new key and (presumably) disable the one that was already used.

The old key is revoked and you get a new key.

Fair enough. You could be a scammer yourself, trade keys away and ask for deactivation and replacement, which is probably why they didn't do it.

It's a roll of the dice. You'd have to be very careful about how you explain things, and if they do help you out, it probably won't be but the one time.

Meanwhile, SG Support is standing by to deal with the perpetrator.

I would believe one time is all you have, indeed.

Luckily, this is all but a question, nothing bad has happened yet, thankfully :)

I once had a winner who activated the key on another account and never replied to me. I issued a ticket to enforce the feedback. It worked, and I usually won't bother to ask another key to deliver.
