Look at Resident Evil. They weren't the traditional zombies since it was a genetic experiment (like in Killing Floor), yet it's known as a zombie game.

They don't die if you destroy their head and they don't want to eat human flesh,they also don't infect you and make you become a zombie and they are not called zombies...

Whilst I love this mod, I really really doubt there will be a standalone by this point. Source: I went to Rezzed game convention in the UK on Saturday, DayZ (rocket) people were there and they were tentatively talking about a standalone. He mentioned a lot of changes and updates etc. but not a full-blown game by September. I mean unless you mean September next year..
