Night in the Woods obviously. I would even buy it for double the price, if needed. You did a mistake there. :/

Just please read the reviews about Night in the Woods. You won't get anything better than that. I played it myself and I was totally amazed. It's perfect in every possible aspect.

Arguably, check the gameplay of Hyperdimension before you buy it. Some people can't stand the gameplay and the grinding that comes with the game. On the other hands, others might not like the humor style of the game.

Hehe yeah apparently you just had the better wording to get it going.

smart people dont ask questions like these "what should i buy" on sg. they do their research. so the leftovers will post more. it wasnt a question, it was sarcasm.
as i read throu comments, most of the "helps" are useless. doesnt affect the buyers opinion too much. i give this thread a good 3.5/10 usability/efficiency

Should I get
The Long Dark
or
Deus Ex Mankind Divided?
Comment has been collapsed.
Doesn't DE:MD end on a cliffhanger or something similar? That may be a huge disappointment if the price is too high.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well if I don't have it maybe don't tell me then ending D:

Oh, I thought it was known that the ending is sub-par. Cliffhanger(ish) or just too many unanswered questions.
Which means "buy the next game if you want to find out" ;)

Spellforce 3 is supposed to be a bit silly with bugs right now, and even past those, critical reviews had some reservations. At the very least, you probably'd have a bit of a wait till you could get an experience with minimal frustration. Meanwhile, the Divinity games are quite rich and enjoyable, and the D:OS series has gotten nothing but praise toward it.
Past that, I think it boils down to a question of what style of RPG you prefer, and how important RTS elements in your RPG are (versus having co-op and non-linear play).
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm split between a few games right now.
Hollow Knight
Darkest Dungeon
Planet Coaster
They just seem to be games that will be in some Monthly sooner rather than later and that's why I can't really decide.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, Hollow Knight is the most recent one so DD is probably gonna be in a bundle sooner.
Or you know, not and I'm just talking out of my ass, but I'm deffo leaning towards HK.
Comment has been collapsed.
Depends on what you like the most.
From what I saw Planet Coaster has most replayability but can get boring after some time if you are not into that as much.
DD can be so RNG sometimes that can make you quit the game if you are not ok with it.
And last Hollow Knight is a nice game with nothing negative to say about it (but you do it once and maybe that is that)
I would choose Planet Coaster since I have DD already, if I didn;t I would go for DD :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Eh, I'd probably pump like 10 hours or so into Planet Coaster in a day and then dump it.
Does Darkest Dungeon "need" the crimson court DLC to be enjoyable or is that just cherries on top?
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't need it, it does add stuff but not super duper (like XCOM 2 War of the chosen) but the same as this DLC it is intertwined in the main game.
If you are not that familiar with DD then I would recommend you play vanilla 1st but if you have the cash buy Crimson Court for later fun :D
P.S. there will be a new DLC (some think like Crimson Court) soonish so you can expect new content (for $$ unfortunately)
Comment has been collapsed.
In case it not too late. You should buy Hollow Knight. That game is one of the best games I even play in last 3-4 years. Darkest Dungeon is good but is picking on it own customer; you need to have a proper mindset to enjoy Darkest Dungeon.
Moneywise, Hollow Knight, still be better than Darkest Dungeon on since Cherry Team (Hollow Knight dev.) don't intend to release any paid DLC while DD dev is working on another one.
I don't have Planet Coaster, so I can't say much about it.

Anybody know if http://store.steampowered.com/app/363600/Holy_Potatoes_A_Weapon_Shop/ is worth it? Also not sure what I really want from my wishlist. Don't see any REALLY good sales.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, it's a clicker game [..] and is somewhat short
Not sure why Hyoshi said it is short.
Clicker/idle games (and casual sim/management games of similar design) usually have a completion time of well over 1000 hours, while Holy Potatoes has an estimated completion time of 10 hours. It's damn short- at least, for the genre. (Though, of course, that's more indicative of the nature of such games, than any determination of quality between shorter or longer examples of the genre.)
Hell, it usually takes 30 hours just to get past the earliest beginner stages in an idle game (as it did me in the shop management sim I'm currently playing, and am already hundreds of hours into). :P
I haven't played Weapon Shop, but if the content is a lot more interactive than the style suggests, then a "short" game length really isn't an issue [assuming someone isn't shopping around with longevity as a key factor of their purchasing]. On the other hand, if they're going in with certain genre-minded expectations, then the comparatively short length is important to note.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, that just means it's not an idle game; clicker games can be fairly in-depth. All I really know of it is that it's a shop management sim, and those tend to be pretty..abstract in player involvement, shall we say? (Recettear and the like being the outliers, with their dungeon crawling elements.) But yeah, what I was trying to say was, it's just a matter of perception. If Hyoshi is considering it a clicker game, 10 hours is short under that consideration.
In other words, I get where Hyoshi was coming from, based off what they said, and I agree the information is potentially useful for consideration, even if it could have been contextualized better. As far as the clicker/idle genre, you're correct that most examples of it are pretty awful, but the genre as a concept isn't at all negative, and it does have a handful of reasonably enjoyable games (meaning a game really shouldn't be prejudged just by being in the genre). Foremost, it's a classification of playstyle, not of quality, so even if a shop management sim isn't inherently part of that genre, it can share similarities that may confuse one into classifying a game into the genre. Even for a management sim game (or for modern games in general), 10 hours is fairly short (though certainly, not to the degree it would be for an idle game), so the distinction ends up being a bit irrelevant in the end.
My intention was just to try and explain why Hyoshi may have had the perspective they did, not to make a case for the game (which I haven't played myself) in either direction.
Personally I'm super interested in one of the later games from the developer, so if you haven't brushed up against that (and you're enjoying Weapon Shop) it may be one to keep an eye on for you, as well. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I play idle/clicker games, so I am not saying there are bad, just that comparing this game to those is bad :)
And I do understand what you meant :)
Yeah I am thinking over Everspace or a bundle from the developer XD
P.S. What is the game you mention you are playing? :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, bad as in inaccurate? Gotcha. :)
I'd have to skip on that bundle, myself, as I don't imagine I'd at all care for Holy[,,]Hell- cooking sims are one of the few genres I dislike, and unlike some modern games, it appears to follow a lot of the classic formulas for them.
I can't recommend the game I'm currently playing- it's a buggy, player-sabotaging mess, so I'm not inclined to promote it with a direct mention [though I will say, you can find it among these]. But, y'know, it scratches that itch, and gives me something mindless at a time when that's useful. Sometimes, that's good enough.

The battle among Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Rabi-Ribi and Dead Cells. I'm a sucker for hard side-scroller and I can only get one :P

Why do you think Rabi is the worst? Have you tried it out? and was there something u don't like?
As for Dead Cells, I read that after Early Access they will increase the price so that's tempting... But Hollow Knight thooo

Oh I should have been a bit clearer I suppose. I have only looked at Rabi-Ribi's gameplay and to me it is the worst of those 4 (not saying it is a bad game)
On the side note Dead Cells will go up in price for sure. (If you want look at Subnautica, it was 20$ with 50% on sales, now since it releases next month it went up in price and it has only 20% off on sale)

Playing through Prey right now and I am loving it.
Both have are quite similar whereas Prey has Aliens in it and Deus Ex: has a more futuristic Earth setting.
Love how Prey doesn't give me the feeling of Go to A and now go to B. and has a lot of multiple optional missions that you can choose to do or not at anytime.

for what i readed PUBG have a lot of problems whit cheaters, optimization of the game, etc.... (so if your PC it's a potato = don't buy it)
Witchet 1 and 2 combat it's a lot more diferent than 3, probably you will not like it (the first 2 games) watch some youtube videos first and maybe you choice to buy the GOTY edition of witcher 3.
i have the same problem than you but i have 50$ to spend and i don't know yet what multiplayer game to buy.(because i want a multiplayer one)

nope i don't like sandbox and a lot less GTA V i readed all the reviews and make me not want to buy it.
however if you want games whit good plot maybe you can check some final fantasy games too (7,8,10) for example
or get a PS2 emulator and download the game suikoden V this game have the best plot i saw in my 20 years playing games, it'0s a shame we don't have a port for PC and can't buy anywhere because it's imposible to find it, so the only way to play it it's via downloading and whit an emulator.

Note: You should still be able to get the first Witcher game free just by downloading GOG Galaxy and playing Gwent [>>]
However, given that it has one of the worst combat systems of any game throughout history, you're probably still better off just watching Let's Plays for it. :X

Well, I find PUBG to be one of the most boring multiplayer games ever... I am not a great fan of multiplayer games in general, but I like tactical games, and I love stealth games, yet PUBG feels more like a camping simulator for half of the matches, running to goddamn safe zone for the other half. I only play PUBG with a friend in my room to talk and do shit together, alone it's hard to not get bored during most of the matches; playing with a party on the other hand is a lot better. Anyway I also tried Fortnite, which is free, more action-packed and polished, so from my perspective is way better (yet not the kind of games I tend to play a lot).
The Witcher game series is one of the best experience you can have in gaming, if you like good stories, role-play, and developers that put actual efforts in their games. They are all pretty long, I think around 50-80hrs for the first one, 50-70 for the second, 100 to infinite for the third, based on how many side quests you do.
Comment has been collapsed.
Witcher definitely. Why? I will explain why, as I have around 300 hours in Witcher 3 (beat previous games too) and 300 in PUBG.
PUBG is a great game to play, even solo without friends, but is much better with friends. However, it runs like crap on most pretty good computers and doesn't look that good to be honest. Witcher 3 looks MUCH BETTER and runs much better as well. Currently, since the release of 1.0, the servers are rubberbanding like crazy, to the point where I have literally no chance in the first 3-4 minutes of a game considering I can't even move properly, can't pick up items fast enough, and everyone just rubberbands around for me so I can't even hit them. I wouldn't recommend PUBG in it's current state, ESPECIALLY OVER Witcher 3.
The Witcher bundle is probably the best value for money bundle that you can get. The first Witcher game is pretty outdated for today's standards, and even Witcher 2 is a bit weird to play nowadays, to be honest, but Witcher 3 makes up for it so much. The combat is great, the graphics are great, the story is magnificent (I spent like 100€ on books after beating Witcher 3, because I fell in love with the lore), the quests are so fun and well-thought out. There isn't a bad quest in the game. The game even has a bunch of humor thrown in and it fits it so well.
If you want I can let you use my GOG account to try out Witcher 2 if you wish? I think I have it on there.

Mainly because of the no-respawning enemies. It's kind of surreal in survival games having to kill everyday new enemies forever.

both are very diferent but considering that final fantasy X have also the X-2 go for this game, it's more like RPG that all we know.
divinity original Sin maybe you will not like if you expect something similar to final fantasy games.
so i recommend you final fantasy X have a good history, music, etc...
divinity don't have a really good history or at least i can't diference the "main" history vs normal quests history that all RPG games have that's what i remember when i played myself i got bored pretty fast doing some quests and reading shit all the time.

Played FFX when I was young and loved it
Tried out DOS and got bored in 2 hours... Story is so so bad and childish. I mean you get teleported in the astral plane to meet some ridicolous goblin that gives ridicolous explanations about game lore. That was enough for me to stop. Sad because the fighting system was kinda good. Tought I could re-buy it to give it a second chance

Ys origins buy it right now it's fuckingggg niceeeee this game also have some replay because have diferent characters and dificults
the rest of games don't played or i don't have idea of them.
if i was you i will buy grimd dawn + Ys origins 100% sure, no doubts, don't forget grim dawn have a new expansion that adds a lot of new things (don't tried myself, but looks veryyyy promising for the price it have and the content it gives, ask in forums of grim dawn there's an image comparing base game + expansion and what add each thing.)

if you like shooters go for far cry 4

I have 42 currency units in the wallet and I'm thinking of buying 3 of my top 4 wishlist items:
OR:
The thing is, I won't be playing them anytime soon because I'm short on time as it is. Also, like most of the people on Steam, I have an extended backlog which I may or may not tackle at some point.
So, the question is, do I buy any them or not? Will I get a better deal on them anytime soon? And if I should buy, which ones?
Thanks.
Comment has been collapsed.
don't buy divinity then, who knows maybe in a few months they make a bundle whit both games in it (because there's divinity 2 that it's pretty new)
the first south park was in a bundle from humble bundle not long ago, so we can expect that in some months / 1 year can be in another bundle maybe you should wait for it if you want save money.
and the witcher 3 it's getting the same discount in each big sale lately, so idk when is the next big sale, but if you think you have enough games for play until next big sale maybe you can save the 42$ and buy another game or a new game that can get released in the future.
isn't better buy some casual game (like rocket league, fast game for play a little "whitout" any progress and history like RPG games etc... than buy some big games that you probably not going to play in days and forget the history etc...???)
Comment has been collapsed.
You do have some good arguments, specifically about buying games I probably won't be able to play for as frequent as I'd wish and forget whatever happened when I do get the time to play. I've been doing this for a few years already. Meaning that I buy games I would like to play, but I don't even start playing because I know that by the time I'll have time to play next time I might not remember everything that was going on when I started playing. I have a lot of games played only until the first chapter and after that they just sit there. So I'll have to think twice when next buying RPGs.
But I probably won't be buying any fast paced or multiplayer based games because I won't be playing those either. I don't really like those types of games. I like my games to have a good story.
Anyway, even if divinity will get bundled with the second game, it would still be too expensive to interest me. I tend to buy heavily discounted games since I have a large backlog anyway so I'm not in the position to not have something to play.
South Park would be interesting to buy, but I don't know if it's as good as the first game. I may also have grown out of the South Park humor a bit, although I hope it'll come back to me :D.
As for Witcher 3, I remember buying the first 2 games at a higher discount, at least 75%, so I think I'll wait until this one gets a similar discount as well.
Anyway, thanks for the advice.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, I won't play any of them for at least a few months, so yeah, I think I'll wait for a better deal during the next sale. If they go to 75% off then it would be worth it.
As for new releases, I don't know. I don't tend to buy new games. Maybe whatever new game Obsidian is working on which they haven't announced, but even then it would have to be a hell of a game. If they'd make a SF game then I think I'll be all over it. KoTOR II was incredible.
Comment has been collapsed.
Will I get a better deal on them anytime soon?
As a consideration, it seems that Obsidian Games trend toward Humble Monthlies- though it'll probably be a year more till Fractured is even a consideration for that. Of course, that's a casual estimate, as all the other Obsidian games put to Monthly had been out for years beforehand- but that's also because Monthly hadn't been around before. Ergo: Likely to go into Monthly, but who knows when.
Witcher 3 doesn't really seem to be dropping in price much at all, but CDR seems to use its older games to promote its newer ones, with price drops not really happening until the next game release- with that in mind, we may see a sizable discount after Cyberpunk launches.
With the Enhanced Edition games, it looks like they tend to pretty much go straight to 50% off (as Planescape already has) and then down to 75% after a year from the release date. That point should be the best time to get it (if you want it sooner rather than later), as I don't believe the games have been covered in bundles thus far.
Divinity: Original Sin has had a pretty gradual price drop, and then hovered at 50% until Divinity 2 released. In those past few months, we've seen it drop to 60% and now 66%. It seems likely it'll drop to 70% or 75% off during the next Summer Sale, and it may even move toward 80% fairly quickly if the publisher considers it mostly superseded by its sequel. Of course, that's pure conjecture- and even going off that conjecture, it means we've still got possibly a half-year-long wait for what's effectively going to be around a 12% reduction (66/75) in what we'd pay for the game.
In short, none of these games seem likely (though sales and promotions can be rather unpredictable, as we SGers know) to have any meaningful decrease in their prices for around another year, with D:OS being the most likely candidate for continued reductions over the next couple of months.
That said, none of these games are at "look at this bargain!" discounts, and if you're not sure you're going to play them over the next half year, it's likely best to wait until the Summer Sale, where at least a 5% additional discount off each of the games isn't unlikely (except for Planescape, due to that line of games seemingly hopping only between -50 and -75 on discounts).
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks! Great and detailed advice.
Looking around for price history of games from the same companies I came to roughly the same conclusion, that there won't be a significant price drop anytime soon.
When I bought the previous Witcher games the discount was at least 75% and, at least for Witcher 2, it wasn't that long after release. About 1.5 years. So I was hoping Witcher 3 to be discounted 75% during this sale. It's not really a good comparison with Witcher 2 because Witcher 3 has the 2 extensive DLCs.
About Beamdog's games, I agree with you on that as well. Again, I was hoping for 75% off, but maybe next time.
As for Divinity: Original Sin, it's kept its price up ever since release, even after Divinity 2 released. I know it was discounted by 66% during the previous sale, so again, if it would have been 75% off it would have been more attractive.
So I guess, since I know I won't be playing them for at least 3-4 months, maybe more, I'll just wait for the next sale. I've been holding that wallet cash for a while now and it's burning a hole in my pocket, but I think I could last until summer :D.
On correction though. This South Park game isn't developed by Obsidian. If it were I wouldn't think too much about it and just buy it, but it's made by Ubi so I don't know what to think about it just yet. It was released 2 months ago and it's already 50% off. As a comparison, it took Divinity: Original Sin about 1.5 years to get such a discount. Anyway, this wan't really that much on the table. The question was more about whether or not the 3 games are worth it for me at this time with their current discount. And the conclusion is that I think I'll live without them for the time being and I'll play the multitude of games I didn't have time for last year.
Thank again for your input.
Comment has been collapsed.
Shoot, you're right. Totally forgot they passed the license off.
Ubisoft's approach to sales is bewildering, to say the least. In this case, they've gone to a 25% discount and then a 50% discount with the first two sales the game has been in- which is especially peculiar considering how well the game has been selling. As unpredictable as that seems, it does look like Ubisoft has a fairly reliable top discount range of 66-75%, so that's probably the ballpark to key an eye out for. They're also known for irregular bundling, though I believe Ubisoft has mostly shifted over to bundling Uplay keys these days.
I'll say this though: It looks like they're pulling the now woefully all-too-common "we'll discount gold/complete editions, but not DLCs" approach, so when you do get it, you'll probably wanna go straight to gold (which is sharing the 50% discount right now) rather than buy individually (as the season pass and other DLCs have no discounts right now at all).
As far as game quality, Ubisoft hasn't had any major Uplay DRM issues in a while now (that I'm aware of), and the studio on the game is the Rocksmith team- so while this is out of their usual flavor, they're not some shady backwoods start-up, either. Given how heavily the game has sold, any major problems should be pretty well established by now. I don't have the time to dig through Steam's abysmal review interface myself right now, but you can probably alleviate (or reinforce) your concerns by spending some time there. Just try not to hate the rest of us too much once you come back from the spam-trenches, k?

Similar to an earlier question. Looking to buy a co-op game for myself and a friend. We enjoy survival / exploration / crafting games. This is my shortlist:
Ylands
Conan Exiles
Astroneer
Scrap Mechanic
Open to suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the input Hyoshi :) I've had Scrap Mechanic on my WL for ages. Was hoping they would have added survival mode by now. I'm worried that outside of creating random vehicles there is not a lot of purpose to the game yet.
