I second Inception, The Matrix, Source Code, Wreck-it ralph, Harry Potter, Spider Man, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Day After Tomorrow, and add I-Robot if you like sci-fi thrillers, Tower Heist, Primer if you like hard sci-fi, Moon, and Johnny English and Johnny English Reborn if you like comedies.

This will probably only work if you're logged into IMDb, but here's my list sorted by rating and filtered for releases between 2000 and 2012.

Very good list. I only haven't watched Mirrors, Wreck it Ralph and Prometheus.
Hunger Games is not so good as most people say. It's okay, but not great.

So, what kind of movies do you prefer?
I really like movies that isn't what they seem at first, or films you have to think a bit about to understand. Many of those are from before 2000, but I can still mention a few, like Crash, Inception, Shutter Island, The Ghost Writer, Another Earth, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Watchmen, The Illusionist, The Prestige, American Psycho, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
But other great 2000+ movies worth mention are also Love Actually, Finding Neverland, Evil, Hawking, Brokeback Mountain, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Die Welle, Rent, Limitless, Super 8, A.I., 9, Pay It Forward, The A-Team, In Time.
Not sure how many are really in HD though.

Just 2000 and later, hmm? That rules out so many awesome movies, but okay. Here's a semi-random selection from that period that I would rate highly, in no particular order:
Brave
V for Vendetta
Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog (originally a 3-part web series)300
WALL-E
Surf's Up
Generation Kill (miniseries)
The Time Traveler's Wife
Freedom Writers
Bicentennial Man (1999, close enough)
The Thirteenth Floor (same)
District B13
Kingdom of Heaven (just make sure it's the director's cut)
Tropic Thunder
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Pandorum (sort of horror-y, but good (I don't like horror either))
Pitch Black (same)
The Man From Earth
The last is one of my all-time faves, but the $200k USD budget really shows. If you can overlook its shortcomings, the story is very much worthwhile.
