Riding Bicycles... all sorts of bicycles. Road, gravel, mountain (full suspension and hard-tail), fat tire. I love different styles and all of my bikes!
And downhill skiing in the winter. Between skiing and fat tire riding in the snow I love winter in the mountains.

Well.... I'm a single mom of 2 (6 and 12) so it takes almost all my time XD
I'm portuguese, almost on my 40's (this December), I like gaming, A LOT (i'm a huge fan of MMORPG and been playing PC games since 1995, my main game is Final Fantasy XIV Online and Fortnite with my kid), learning to create some digital drawing emotes (for twitch and stuff), I love science related content (space, chemistry and physics), love cars, dancing (my bones crack a lot but i still do it XD), diy projects and a recently turned into a big anime lover...
So... Hi everyone =)

Ooh, single nomming is so much work. I'm almost a single mom, and it's hard to keep up with just one! I'm in awe you can wrangle 2.
What kind of dancing? I used to do a ton of swing dancing before kid, but health and kid and all the things have made that take a back seat. Also enjoyed some general ballroom, shag, Balboa. Polka can be super fun with an energetic lead.

latin dancing, merengue, bachata, rumba, salsa, i love it but now i barely have time so i enjoy working while listening to it XD trying to make my kids enjoy music and dancing aswell but nowadays it's hard XD Polka needs a lot of leg strenght, i think i couldn't do it XD

My screen name (a nickname given to me by a friend in high school. I asked him "Why 'Joe'?" and he said "Because Kung Fu Erik just doesn't sound right!") kind of gives my answer away... I'm too lazy to dig up a good recent photo that's suitably interesting, so instead, I'll just link to an old video of a performance we put together when I was in college. Normally, performance isn't my thing, but for a number of years in and after college, I had a really good time trying to choreograph live fight scenes for a general (non-martial artist) audience. You can find much more recent stuff on my channel, but I don't put out very much content.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_mIxX0YGyA
You'll have to excuse the quality. Camcorders back then weren't all that great by today's standards! (And the one we used was pretty old at the time. The 2001+ performances were on a MiniDV camcorder and still look like crap by today's standards, but much better)

Outside of work and gaming, it's mostly just been the gym for me

I just switch periodically between gaming and watching either YouTube videos or anime... or at least that's how it used to be like in the past. (From the little that I talked about this with other people, this is apparently a shared experience, though.)
For one, I figure that gaming is my main interest, the one I actively and continuously spend money on in various forms, so I can't see myself ever abandoning it completely in lieu of watching more movies, for example. (This couldn't have started before I started using my Steam account, which was sometime back in 2016.)
Then again, I can't imagine not watching YouTube videos anymore, either. Times, tastes and creators themselves have changed and evolved throughout the years, but I follow a decent amount of channels.
Anime has become more of a sore spot for me ever since I went to uni to study Japanese. I've been wanting to do so for years, but even though I definitely learned more of the language, I still feel like my understanding of it is spotty at best (and doesn't measure up to the level I tested at). Between that and all the noise about what it's like to learn Japanese under all kinds of different circumstances, I've started feeling inadequate because I don't care to throw all my other interests away to pursue complete immersion at all times or whatever. (I do believe that studying with flashcards is a good method, but I fall off it easily if I have to make the flashcards myself.)
All that being said, I did graduate a little over a year ago, so I've been thinking about getting back to some form of self-study soon, to stop feeling like I'm doomed to forget everything from now on.

Programming, art, circuit board repair / soldering, reading manga. I'm a lifelong geek. :P
I used to do 3D art as a profession, but eventually it became just a hobby. The last few years though I've stopped doing art in favor of focusing on my programming skills, all in an effort to eventually create my own art apps. Never cared much for the art apps other companies / people make and would rather have something that caters to what I want specifically. It's slow going because my day job for the past 3 years has been purely about physical labor, so I'm almost always exhausted, but it does give me a lot of time to contemplate minor details of application design which I'd probably overlook if I was just staring at a computer screen all day.
The circuit board repair / soldering stuff is something I'm just starting to get into, but It's interesting. :)

Cool discussion. Thanks for posting. Always interesting to get to know others and see what everyone around likes.
Obviously its gaming for me as well. I try to find some time for it. Even if it is only 20 minutes before going to sleep. But I love to close work laptop and start up some game and enjoy solitude of gaming for a moment. I also take Steamdeck with me on trips so try to do some gaming everywhere.
But overall I like to fill my days with bunch of stuff to do.
This summer I started to ride a motorcycle more actively. I would definitely call this more of a hobby, as I take it out not only for getting around, but for drives out to the nature, just enjoying roads, visiting neighboring cities etc. Sometimes just randomly driving around the city. So for me it works to clear head, give some emotions and provide fun. So on par with any other hobby I have. Its something that takes up your time and life while you tinker with it, do upgrades and hone the skills of riding.
When winter comes snowboarding replaces this. I go to Finland every year (this year skipping as we are expecting a kid), have snowboarded in Alps as well. But since we have some small resorts right here in Latvia, I can do it quite regularly just to keep my skill up. I have my own board, do it regularly, so definitely a hobby.
Active leasure and camping is also a hobby for me and my wife. I do quite a lot of camping out in the nature. In summer this could be almost every weekend and sometimes weekdays as well. We usually take the car to sea side and sleep in the car. Did a whole Euro trip like this for two weeks. In winter its a bit more rare, but we still go on hikes and make fire in the woods to cook up some lunch.
We do yearly trips to mountains. Pic added is view from Tatra mountains from Rysy. Have climbed it two times. Nothing extraordinary for mountain climbers, but I am quite proud of it anyway. I think I have done it regularly for last 6-7 years I believe. So looking forward to it every year.
Some things that are slowly developing into hobbies - fishing. I somehow already have 3 fishing rods and go fishing now and then as well. Not very good at it though, but have been to Finland to fish pikes, to Estonia to try ice fishing. I have picked up bouldering as well - turns out that is quite an interesting sport to do. I mean I do go to gym regularly, but that IMO is less a hobby, more as a sport. Bouldering for me is less regular, but I do it for fun, so I would classify that more as a hobby then a sport I do. Depends on what you classify as a hobby. If its something I do for fun, which burns money, then for sure everything I mentioned is a hobby ;( :D
I was quite big on reading. Still do love it, but don't have that much time anymore. Sometimes before going to sleep its a dilemma of gaming, doing crossword puzzle or reading. Lately gaming has won followed by 10 min of crosswords.

Those are some epic outdoor scenes. Nice! I used to do some indoor climbing, when I had some more time. Something kind of relaxing about it. There was a bouldering area to practice on also.
Many best wishes that your incoming child sleeps soundly and regularly!

when I had some more time
It for sure takes up time. This weekend I went for a morning climb. Did it for 5 or so hours :D You can climb, rest, climb, rest and climb again until your arms are dead. A good workout and a good pastime, but definitely takes up more time then simply hitting the gym. Bought my own climbing shoes as well after this weekends session. Realized the ones we can rent at the bouldering centre are quite bad and realized I cant climb more difficult tracks due to slipping off the holds.
Many best wishes that your incoming child sleeps soundly and regularly!
Thank you :) That would indeed be wonderful, so fingers crossed

I used to enjoy playing games, reading manga, hentai, or books, watching anime or movies, coding, photography, or guppy.
Now I just laze away the days with my long list of anime, manga, or books. Once in a while, I have some ideas to code something but will never finish.
Somehow I feel that time is flying too fast when I don't pay attention to it, maybe my neuron connections are jammed, so it takes more time to think.
Attached is my aquarium after I finished setting it up. Later, I added more aquatic plants to it.

Destruction can indeed be a hobby! There are people who actually make a living setting up things for other people to destroy. Never thought about it but I guess I could set up a small venture doing that since I have plenty of destructible things lying around and tools too. But there's a lot of insurance concerns and legal disclaimers and lots of stuff like that. I mean one moron comes in and purposefully misses something and smashes their foot with a sledgehammer. Next thing you know there's a $500k lawsuit. Everyone sues everyone else these days, it's crazy. Some woman is suing an airline because her ice cream was too cold and she chipped her tooth. Nobody takes their kids trick or treating anymore because they think it's not safe due to every male over 16 being a sex crazed rapist. Fear-mongering and abuse of the legal system is breaking down society and making it easier for police states to evolve or worse theocratic states.
But no, I'm not here to destroy anything. Just rant about things most people don't even think about apparently. I guess some people think I'm evil and crazy because I still try to be social in a world that's quickly becoming anti-social. Sorry, I told you before I like to talk. lol

When I taught Taekwondo, we just have people sign something saying that we try to be safe, but people will be trying to kick you in the head, and that the business is not responsible for injury etc etc. I can't imagine it's much different with people sledgehammering printers.
Not sure about the chipped tooth lady, but if I recall the McDonald's coffee lady who got burned and sued got third degree burns, but people always teased about 'how lame, hot coffee, duh'. Seemed silly to me too until I learned details. Maybe this is similar. There are definitely frivolous lawsuits though.
As for trick or treating, our neighborhood was crazy bustling and our bowl handed out about 350 pieces of candy. Maybe you have more crazed 16 year olds in your area.
Comment has been collapsed.
When I was a child everyone used to take their kids out on Halloween. This was true everywhere I lived from rural areas with no actual towns to the metropolis. If the entryway light was on it meant there was candy being handed out whether there was decorations or not and back then almost all the lights were on. If parents were working then kids would typically go with their friends and their parents.
Times have changed. All the entryways are dark save a few. You don't see anyone walking down the street, everyone is kept inside a car if they are out. Most of the trick or treating only happens at public events at schools and businesses. I'm sure there are some gated communities and such where nothing has changed but for the most part it's just not the same. My grandmother lives in town of over 25,000 in a good neighborhood and 1 family that lives in the area visited her. That was it. In contrast 40 years ago she lived 10 miles from the nearest town of 2,500 and would get over a hundred random families from all over the county. She's lived in the same county all her life so this isn't like a difference in region thing just like I said people are buying into all the fearmongering and letting it affect their lives.
If you don't see it then you must not live in the United States or just don't watch the news. I mean every day I use Bing for my Microsoft rewards and I see another face being charged with some kind of sexual misconduct, usually something from 20+ years ago. To me it seems rather suspect to not report something for decades then all of a sudden after Me2 everyone has been raped or sexually assaulted by every male celebrity out there. Granted there is a lot of substance in there like Naser and Weinstein but I cant picture Garth Brooks raping someone. And a lot of it concerns people who are dead like Hefner. I've lost all interest in relationships at this point. It's just far too frightening, anyone can make anything up if you piss them off and your life is ruined if you can't afford a good lawyer. Maybe I'm overly paranoid but I certainly don't want to go to prison for being a lousy lay.

I love to read. I collect a few series in hardcover -- Jack Reacher by Lee Child, Spenser by Robert B. Parker, Pendergast by Preston & Child, Atticus Kodiak by Greg Rucka, Hitch & Cole by Robert B. Parker, and a couple of others. Outside of those series, I try to go to the bookstore every so often, and I'll take pictures of the books that look interesting. Then I borrow them from the library. (And then if they're worth buying I'll buy them or put them on my wishlist).
I also love board games. The picture of my board game shelf is just one of three. Our board gaming definitely ebbs and flows, though, depending on life in general. We just played one yesterday but that was probably the first time in 3 months. Hoping we can get back into it. There are a couple of new Ticket to Ride games that came out in 2024 that I want to pick up, trying to collect all of those.
Outside the house my favorite activity is to ride our electric scooters. The top speed is about 19 MPH / 30 KPH. We have a couple of nice spots to ride here on Galveston island. It's a great way to get some fresh air and observe all of the birds that we have here (some local, some migratory).
I recently got back into riding my exercise bike, I've actually ridden every day for over 2 months, which is the most consistent I've ever been. I think I may have finally built it into a habit. (Forgot to take a picture of the bike but it's old and nothing special!)

I like all of the small 'city' editions for 2 players -- New York, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, San Francisco and Paris (don't own that one yet). I'd say our favorite is probably Berlin, but they're all fun.
Among the 'regular' TTR games I think our favorite is probably just USA, especially the mega edition with all of the extra routes and bonuses. We also like Nordic Countries a lot, and that map is designed for 2-3 players. If you want something a bit more 'epic' I can recommend Rails & Sails but the game takes about twice as long to play.

Coding (which is also what im studying), going to the gym and reading books! I dont really have any pictures so Ill just say that im working on a terraria mod, a Pokemon encounter tracker for shiny hunting and as far as books go Im going through the Warhammer books aboout the Black Legion.

For now it's windows support only so it can be used for the mainline games, romhacks (I'm not including the fakemon) and PokeMMO but I'd say it's roughly the same for Pokémon GO with the only downside being having to remember the encounters and adding them when you're at home.

Fellow cinema enjoyer! :) I think the most I've gone to the cinema in a single week was 8 haha... I've only logged 44 this year so far though, so that was definitely a freak occurrence (and a double billing of Dune Part 1 and 2 definitely helped)
What's the best movie you've seen in cinema this year? Also what's your letterboxd? (unless its private then dw!)
Comment has been collapsed.
Wow, 8! That is a lot! I don't think I ever watched 8 movies in a week even counting the ones on stream platform.
I did not watch Dune Part 2 in cinema which is a shame :( because the local cinema has really small screens and their showings are limited. And I didn't really want to drive 40 mins to the nearest city to watch it. Funny that I used to drive 2 hrs to Toronto for concerts and drive back the same night. Guess I am getting lazy as I get older...
The best movie is probably Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga :) Shame it did not do well in box office. What about you?
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh that's such a shame! I was very lucky that the city I'm in for uni has an imax screen. Getting to watch Dune 1 and 2 back to back there was incredible. Though I don't think I've ever seen my eyes more bloodshot than they were by the end haha
Furiosa is a great pick :)) The box office really did not do it justice sadly. I thankfully get to watch a lot of older movies in the cinema here, so if we're including those it'd defo be Trainspotting. Including only new releases here for this year though, I'd say its a toss up between The Holdovers and The Iron Claw. The Holdovers is an all time Christmas movie for me now, and v much the movie equivalent of a warm hug. And The Iron Claw caught me completely by surprise in terms of what the trailer led you to believe it was, and what it really was (in a really great way)

Gaming, anime, manga, and web novels are pretty much the only consistent hobbies I keep coming back to, even if I have a little break from one or the other.
I also have this habit of temporary hobbies, things I get obsessed with for a while, and then move on to the next thing that catches my attention. These tend to be things that need meticulous handiwork or assembly. Off the top of my head, here are some things I've dabbled in: Perler beads, lego sets, cross stitch, crocheting stuffed animals and dolls, 2D and 3D puzzles in all cardboard wood and metal, dollhouse assembly kits, and polymer clay (which it turned out I'm pretty talented at, my first serious sculpture, which took me a week, turned out much better than I expected). I don't have photos of everything I've ever made, but here are some (the polymer clay troll sculpture was a work in progress at that point, too lazy to take a new picture of the completed one):

edit : and impressive models, you're meticulous and have real talent !
I loved all the models but out of curiosity, last image please is this a specific cathedral ?

Oh man, hearing you describe it reminds me I have the devastating habit of temporary hobbies too. But my symptoms are much, much worse than yours.
I learnt crochet; the amigurumi (that I designed myself!) ended up half-finished with a body and tail but no face.
I learnt guitar; the E string broke and I never did get round to fixing it yet. (I forgot why I stopped piano, too.)
2D jigsaws/3D wooden puzzles - the boxes are still sitting enticingly there for me to finish them. I even saw one set of 3D puzzle losing one of the pieces from the frame and got sad briefly.
Air-dried clay - I sculpted the head and face contours of a chibi character, and then never finished it.
...and I'm sure there are many more examples...
As I stopped manga cold turkey many years back, I don't think there is anything that I can legitimately declare as a hobby that someone would believe I have XD Thanks for all these fantastic pictures of your lovely creations.

I am very happy how this thread turned out :) I started it as a counterpoint to the two big negative news our community was hit with in the last couple of days. To find something positive to talk about again, and to get to know our fellow community members better. Since what happened with icaio once again showed us, that we are all human(s) and we tend to forget that, sometimes...
I will add a little bit of myself:
Music is the most important thing for me. I simply can't exist without music. Today, I hardly buy CDs anymore, I have to admit, because most of my free money goes into gaming or movies (see first posting in this thread). I will show you my collection nevertheless, because what I have bought in the past I still treasure today.
I also like(d) to read, but gaming and movies took precedent and the last time I sat down to really take the time to read was years ago. My wife reads a lot more than me, so I tend to buy her some of her favorite books as nice collections for her birthdays or for christmas. I'll show you a picture of our cupboard in our living room (with all the non-book stuff edited out). The books are in two rows, so you only can see the first row, of course.
And I am a little J.R.R. Tolkien nerd :D That's why I added a picture of my collection to all the other Tolkien fans in this thread. I am still missing so much of his work, it's nigh unfathomable oO
All other hobbies I once had in my life are no longer a part of it:

I want to amend my answer -- I also love music, I just don't have a physical collection anymore, I ripped all of my CDs to MP3 files, so I can't share a picture. :)
I am curious -- why did you stop your YouTube / streaming after 3+ years? I loved narrating my own gameplay so much that I still do it from time to time, even though I am not even recording -- I just like talking to myself. :D
I sympathize with your comics collection. I had a collection of G1 Transformers back in the 80s... until my sister sold a bunch at a yard sale and my mom got rid of the rest. Good times.

During my studying at uni over the last few years, I've found the biggest hobby to emerge for me has been going to the cinema. I go with friends some times, but I find I also love going by myself, maybe even more, as a way to unwind and have some alone time. With my ADHD too, I find it's the only way I can reliably watch movies. I love film, but without that booking to force me to go, I find I just so rarely get around to it otherwise... And my plan-to-watch list will just sit there, forever only growing in size.
I've also found tracking them on Letterboxd has been really neat. promise I have no affiliation or sponsor here. xd Seeing what friends watch, but also as a way to think more deeply about the movies I watch and my thoughts on them through reading the reviews (some of them, lol...) and writing some of my own.

Oh, I just realized that I created two messages while figuring out how to correctly place image links on this site...
I’m using a very old entry-level Canon EOS 1100D with kit lenses (18-55mm and 55-250mm) for landscapes, and Helios 44m-4 for macro. :)
