Did this affect you?
It was a previous update which did that. Most recent update 5.34 is supposed to be clean.

Yeah that's not true. I have the 64 bit and I was infected.

see any kind of Piriform update > click the X unless its been 1y or 6m on tools like those ...
its reassuring to know though, on ones interwebs devices there is no safe place, there are so many god damn exploits (software based)
esp. windows but none's safe (except the few tinfoil linux distros maybe) if that wasn't enough - enjoy the built in cpu backdoors lol ...

joking. in reality my old pc apparently broke down and doesnt boot. i guess i'm completely safe from infection.

And now they compromised it themselves https://betanews.com/2018/08/01/do-not-install-the-latest-version-of-ccleaner/

That too, just like anti-virus software they are mostly snake oil making you think they did something useful when they have a higher change of breaking stuff. They were useful maybe in the Win 9x days, but definitely not with 7-10 any more.

Very true. I must say though, that I am now on some free 6 months trial (through Linus Tech Tips) of BitDefender Total Security. It seems fine, doesn't bog down the system and actually does its work. Even finds malicious trojans on websites, and no I am not talking about shady websites ;) . It has been the first time in YEARS for me to actually use anything else but the standard Windows security, which seems adequate enough.

Last malware I managed to catch was on a totally unprotected XP VM that caught Ghost from somewhere. Before that some Amiga one when copying that floppy. Everything else any AV has ever found has been a false positive, so I guess I'm well enough protected with Common Sense Suite 2018. :) Also there is nothing shady about most porn :P

Just imagine being able to buy it for your (grand)parents instead of having to do support work. :)

The Creeper virus was first detected on ARPANET, the forerunner of the Internet, in the early 1970s.

And what to use now instead of this compromised again and again crap?

Now it just tries to push their AV on you.

better to stay away from ccleaner.. the android version isn't that bad but for what concerns PCs isn't something I'd want on mine

It seems that CCleaner, one of PCWorld’s recommendations for the best free software for new PCs, might not have been keeping your PC so clean after all. In an in-depth probe of the popular optimization and scrubbing software, Cisco Talos has discovered a malicious bit of code injected by hackers that could have affected more than 2 million users who downloaded the most recent update.
