Mass Effect series, MGS series, Dishonored, Pokemon 5th gen(There are plenty but I'm too half assed to go and go find them)
Edit: Half life series, Portal, Homefront, (more to come)

Some might even argue these games are not worthy to be called games because they're just too focused on stories, etc.
...what? Give us an example of a game that is too focused on story to be considered a game. Besides the obvious Dear Esther, which lacks in both gameplay and story.

Heavy Rain. Fahrenheit to some degree. In the days of yore some FMV games were focusing om a story way too much. Basically all QTE games focus more on a story rather on a gameplay.

Fahrenheit? Really? The game started out great, but through the end it got dumber and more fucked up than infamous ME3 ending.

These were the examples of games that are too focused on a story. Whether the story is good or bad is irrelevant.

See it as asking you if a perfect looking $1 hamburger tastes good. It looks splendid, delicious, but is the inner part really that good?

I;m trying to make the point that the story can look good good without actually being good.

I have played Bioshock and can confirm it has the best storytelling of any game I have played so far, and it does so with an extremely minimal amount of cutscenes.

+1 I agree, there has never been a computer game story since that can measure up to it. So many strong emotions evoked by one game....

Shank 2, nice one. As for story, if you want heavy focus then try some Visual Novels. There's a ton of Japanese VNs with english patches out there, and quite a lot of them have great story.
Otherwise, I quite enjoyed the plot in Bastion, Home achieved its goal in making me think up my own interpretation, Braid was quite similar with a hint of uncovering a hidden truth.
Was much more, but that's all I can list off the top of my head.

TES & Fallout & GTA series , Alan Wake , Dishonored

The plot in this game is even better than in any known war movie, with really interesting moral choices and many ways for interpretation of the story, it's a must-play.

I'm a bit of a point-and-click adventure junkie, so I'd throw The Longest Journey and Dreamfall in the discussion. I've heard good things about Monkey Island and Broken Sword, but I'm still working my way through both of them.
The Portal and Half-Life definitely qualify too as a modern classics.
For non-PC games, I quite enjoyed the Yakuza series and Ni No Kuni from Playstation and most things Zelda from Nintendo.

I'm the opposite. I've been a HUGE fan of Monkey Island and Broken Sword since I was 12, but I've always been extremely reluctant to give The Longest Journey a try because I heard that the series ends on a cliffhanger (apparently they planned to make a final game to tie the loose ends, but they never did?). I don't want to get emotionally invested in a story and then be left without a real ending :/

AAAAAAAND Dreamfall Chapters is well on its way to being funded a la Kickstarter, so the Longest Journey saga will at last have an ending.

What's the best games you've played thus far, in terms of the in-game story?
How the story in the game touched you emotionally, or mentally, such as games that might make you went mindf*cked like The Walking Dead? or games that have touched you emotionally, even made you cry? :p
These games focus on the stories rather than the gameplay itself. Some might even argue these games are not worthy to be called games because they're just too focused on stories, etc.
Share us your pick. It doesn't always have to be those AAA title games, there are lots of games i'm sure you can recommend, indie for example.
So, what's your pick? :D
I appreciate all of your recommendations. :)
