Have you ever gotten scammed before?
but... how come a "level whatever" comes trustworthy? the only thing I trust is SteamGifts giveaways feedback. I really don't get why do people trust in any "status", "comments" or whatever they choose that user have control of its info? trust has to be earned, not showed...
don't rage yourself op. we all pay for learn that no one is trustworthy. you just paid higher than others bu trust me... you still paid little (I'm a criminal lawyer so I'm sure that you lost little to learn this lesson)

Oi, don't forget steamrep. I feel like an FBI agent when I search someone up on that site.

I never use steamrep because I don't really know how it works exactly... :T

Copy/paste the profile ID URL, go to steam rep, then find out about the player of your interest. Reports are submitted by victims of the scammer.

It comes from that scammers that are banned or caught set up alternate accounts, and don't really spend money on levelling them, so they are often fresh accounts at low level. The same reason many traders have the policy of insta-blocking 10- accounts (or private ones).

The scammer provided 5 rep threads to support his claims. Could be someone else's, could be the scammers. We have no way of knowing. I wasn't just blindly trusting the guy just because he was a Lvl 100.
Also its the mindset of scammers being low levels that did me in. Talgaby pointed that out in the reply below me.

You can trust nothing nowadays. Back, when NVIDIA vouchers were released for MGS V TPP, a guy with 100+ positive rep, SG lvl 3, positive ratio came around. He was offering a seemingly infinte amount of vouchers for 10 CS:GO keys, but there came the twist, he took only pre-orders, and promised that he will deliver the vouchers at the game's release date. He stocked up 3-400 keys, and gone silent shortly after the promised release date. He didn't have any reports on SteamRep, not even closed ones, so only the offer's fishiness blew his cover.
I also "know" someone, who is scamming people, using his Steam lvl, which is over 100, his AAA game count (which he possibly gathered through scams). He already has 4 unconfirmed reports (7 total), but most people wouldn'T check him judging from his Steam lvl and game count.
So basically, you can't trust in anything in these times. If someone wants to scam you by abusing their SG rep, they will do it, but fortunately there aren't many of them.

wow! honestly... this guy is a master! in brazil, we have a guy (history not much related but this is where I learned that no one is trustworthy) that transfered millions, bought airplanes, yachts, cars, did a lot of girls, went to expensive parties with celebrities and A LOT of other things just lying that he was "son of some-brazilian's-airlines-company" (which we call it "gol airlines"). the most impressive fact of this history it is the fact that he was poor and didn't expend a cent to get all this.
he was not someone above average... he was just confident that he was something that he wasn't. that's exactly how I see everyone everywhere... people full of they are not, till they prove me otherwise (that's why I said that trust should be earned, not showed). In my lawyer office I usually attend people that was scammed (I don't know what is the exactly translated word to use to name this crime but it has a name in brazil: extorsion) and lost about $ 15k. that's why I said he paid little to learn this...

indeed, I agree... but the popular proverb "opportunity makes a thief" still does not include levels, games, trade feedback or steamgifts levels...
steam levels or game amount doesn't indicates that the person decided to leave steam and go to consoles or have terminal disease or have nothing to lose or any external factors like that (for example)... in fact steamlevels or game amout, to me, doesn't tell nothing to me about the personality of the person on the other side. (tl;dr; I think it is not exactly about stupidity but opportunity)
I prefer steamgifts giveaway credibility because both gifter and gifted has to confirm receipt and activation in several ways: keys, gifts, etc. since random people do that, it is very unlikely that all random people were fooled to check as received. in the deep, I think steamgifts giveaways (not trade) expose a lot of people's personality and how trustworthy they are suppose/tend to be.
still... I deeply believe better no deal (happened to me A LOT) than being scammed, because... unfortunelly... because the popular proverb still doesn't include levels, games, trade feedback or steamgifts levels... :T
sorry for crappy english, I'm playing valiant hearts :DDD

Guy who scammed me was a Lvl 100, with tons of rep, and screenshots of past transactions. My net connection was too slow for Enhanced Steam to show me that this guy already had a report pending on him for Paypal scamming. I went first on him, and he ran. Lost all that I earned in the last 3 days thanks to this guy. All those hours I spent awake uptil 4 Am in the morning, wasted. I don't know what to do. Whether to bang my head against the wall for falling for the textbook Paypal scam, or whether to just go into hibernation (You know, that mode we go into when we are so sad we don't even care about anything around us). I already did the former, and am now considering the latter.
I know what I went wrong with, and I know what I need to avoid. So don't bother putting that in the comments below. That is not what I want. I just wanted to be transparent with the folk I've spent almost 6 months with. Nothing more, nothing less.
Also being the idiot that I am, I will abide by my principles and put in a giveaway. You can argue I'm throwing away more money, but I counter that with the simplest of answers.
I. don't. care. anymore.
(Level 3+, with requirements that only charitable folk will pass. Be warned.)
